She Got Me Pregnant: Episode 61

Dana and Helen of Mombian.com reveal their readers' favorite L Word parenting storyline. (Surprise: It's not Bette and Tina.) They also discuss what happens when their son's kindergarten classmates start playing "boys capture the girls" during recess, and he doesn't want to play along.

Finally, they offer some advice on what to do if your insurance company refuses to pay for your fertility treatments.

boys of girls

Hi Ladies!

Couldn't find this episode on Mombian.  Is it there?

My partner and I have a sweet 5 year old boy who gets along with boys and girls but doesn't like the rough stuff.  He wanted to make a list of all the kids he wanted to invite for a play date, and he instructed us not to include anyone who played Power Rangers or Puff Girls because all they do is chase each other around.

Add to the equation that I'm a stay-at-home mom, and I can't help but wonder if people assume we've got a mama's boy because we're 2 moms - 1 of whom is home all the time.

Then, we had our 2nd.  He's 2.  He's ear-piercingly loud, loves to play in dirt and is definitely "all boy".  Oh, and he likes playing with baby dolls.   Go figure.

Waddya gonna do? It's a great topic because we're always under the microscope-even in our crunchy-granola schools.

Let them be who they are, and we can't go wrong, right?  Thanks for this one!

advice

I remember when I was in elementary school ~(15 yr ago) that the girls chased the boys at recess. Regardless of who is chasing who, I think that its a harmless game and most children are free to persue other playground activities. I remember sitting on the side with some friends and playing with roly-polys, a mighty fine way to pass the time.

boys chase girls

at my elementary school on the playground every day was a game of boys chase girls, at the end of the pursuit, the boys had to kiss the girl that they had caught, which they thought was totally gross.  i wondered why they played.  my best bud and i would just walk on the balance beam-like edge of the playground and when a boy caught one of us, we'd just say, "we're not playing" and they'd be usually relived that they didn't have to kiss us and they'd just move on to someone else.  The girls were much more upset with us for not playing their game.
