Leisha Hailey goes to Lifetime

AfterEllen.com reader Helen tipped us off that Leisha Hailey recently appeared in the Lifetime mini-series Maneater. Based on the name, we realize most of you probably weren't into watching it, so I did the job for you. (You're welcome.)

Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) plays Clarissa, a spoiled Hollywood socialite who ends up pregnant and broke based on her poor life decisions and karma. She doesn't befriend Leisha's character Harriet until she moves into a smaller house in a humble section of Los Angeles, and Harriet lives next door.


She kind of looks like Alanis Morissette circa 1996, doesn't she?

Hailey's Harriet doesn't appear until the second part of the mini-series (which aired in two parts over Memorial Day weekend and can now be watched in its entirety online), where she is seen as the doudy do-gooder by all of Clarissa's well-to-do BFFs (played by Marla Sokoloff and Judy Greer).

OK, so Maneater sucks, but it's always fun to watch Leisha play a character completely different than she's played before. And going from the high class lesbian Alice to a cosmetic-free social worker with unkempt long locks, it's entertaining to see Hailey acting as someone that's supposed to be unattractive and straight.

I'm not too shocked Leisha was talking up this role and sending out Tweets to Uh Huh Her fans to check out the show. But I guess it's good she's still working, since The Farm is no longer.

Next up? I hope to see Hailey with a better haircut.

    I love her and whatever she is in I will watch!! Thanks for the heads up, i think she always looks beautiful, I prefer when she plays gay...but that's because I want to marry her X3 Hoping for the first post!

    With that hair, Leisha Hailey looks just like my mom, which means you've literally destroyed 26 percent of my fantasy life. So, thanks for that.

    @ First I thought she looked kinda bad (on the homepage picture) but in this post the pictures used, she looks cute. I think I prefer her as a blonde though. :]

    She kind of looks like the witch of Eastwick :) or my rendition of the witch of Eastwick at least, or a Grandmother Willow, if she was real. Helena's hair was more... contained I guess, Leisha looks like truct by lightning. Still it's far away from the Farah Fawcett's hairdo and I thought that looked weird on her. Well, let's shrug it.

    No matter what I do adore Leisha and I like Sarah Chalke as well, so I will check out the show. You write that she plays a different character than Alice so it will be nice to see the third version of Leisha (the first being "All Over Me" for me). Nothing compares to Alice of course.

    I read this book back when it came out (in the straight days of yore) and based on your recap, the mini-series seems to have only the title in common with the book.  This sounds terrible, which is a shame because I remember liking the book, and wanted to check out the mini-series (because I had read, then watched The Starter Wife and liked both), especially now that I know Leisha's in it, but based on what you've said, ew.  No.

    I heard about the show because I love Sarah Chalke in Scrubs but I didn't know about Leisha til just now !! I guess I'll try to watch it online then lol I love Leisha Hailey...she's so hot and I like her music. Someday I'll meet her...

    Hopefully, someone will save Leisha from having to sacrifice like this. This gives me a sense of what "The Farm" may have done to her...

    i always get depressed when someone i like pop's up on lifetime. it's hard to come back from lifetime, it's like a black hole.

    Perhaps some of the made for tv movies that appear on Lifetime now are a little scary - and awesome - like two Tori Spelling gems, Mother May I Sleep With Danger and Co-Ed Call Girl, BUT, they are creating some good original content like Army Wives. Ok...well maybe there's just the one right now, but apparently they are interested in at least picking up Guiding Light.

    My very favorite Girl is back :)

    Ok so i don't know much about the show or the network/tv channel as i'm not from the states, but i will find this, watch it, probably watch it again and then share it with every one of the girls i know!

    It's Great that Leisha is on tv again. And in a completely different role. Hopefully it will be the first of many more appearances!

    Maybe I'm running into slop now, but I like Leisha's hair. :) I like that she is compared with Alanis Morissette, because they really look alike in this second picture. Nice nice. Have to see this!

    i was laying in bed and saw that sarah chalke was on so i decided to watch. i almost jumped out of my skin when i saw liesha. i kept watching just for them two.

     

    i crenged when she kissed the guy at the end. *cue the long drawn out "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"*

    while Sarah Chalke is gorgeous, they didn't need to mar Leisha up like that! the hair!!!

     

    but it was somewhat of an entertaining show anyway. somewhat.

    haha yeah she does have the Alanis Morrissette look.. around 1995-96 but ugh that hair color doesn't look so good on her...

    i love lifetime. i love the horribly dramatic movies and i love army wives. i saw the commercial for this movie but as Trish said, i had no interest in watching it. They never said anything about her becoming pregnant or broke in the commercials. Talk about false advertising!

    I think Leisha looks sooo much better when she has her short hair from seasons 1 & 2 of the L Word, so i'd have to agree that her hair in this movie does not look good to me.
