Kathy Griffin will play gay on "SVU"

Kathy Griffin may not love Lindsay Lohan, but she has celebrated lesbians like Melissa Etheridge and Rosie O'Donnell on her successful show, My Life on the D-List. And then, of course, there was the "kiss" she shared with Aubrey O'Day on last year's Bravo's A-List Awards.

And last week, she told Joy Behar she'd vote Suze Orman for president.

Now, she'll play a lesbian activist on a winter episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

TVGuide.com is reporting that Kathy is set to appear on Feb. 10, which was revealed via the show's producer, Neal Baer, on his Twitter.

Although most people know Griffin for her stand-up and comedic roles, she has played more serious parts (small and large) in shows like ER, The X-Files, Strong Medicine and Privileged.

We don't know much else yet, including what exactly Kathy's character is an activist for and how close she gets with Detective Benson, but we'll definitely keep you posted.

    If she plays a lesbian activist...and possible crime suspect I'll pass.  Same ol story line that needs to be retired.

    Hopefully it's not though, I'm not holding my breath.

    Kathy's great, and I'm glad we're finally getting a lesbian themed episode (has anyone else noticed how many gay guy episodes there have been?), but she better stay away from Olivia. That's where Alex belongs. (:

    haha omg i agree with everything u just said. theres been like 1 or 2 lesbian episodes and like 15 gay guy ones, so not fair. and ahhh alex+olivia forever =D *fingers crossed*

    I am pumped.

    For all you A/O shippers out there.... Did this weeks episode not epic fail?! I was screaming at the TV. My mom looked at me like I was crazy. Which, admittedly, I am. Expecially when it comes to Alex and Olivia!!!!!!

    Completely agreed. I was so pissed. I mean, sure, we can write it off as sexual tension and angst, but still. This was Alex's last ep for an unspecified time, too.

     FAIL.

    I am pretty sure Stephanie March will be back... she's pregnant so that's probably why they wrote her out for a while.

     Thanks! =D I prefer the "butch-ier" Olivia. She's toned down the ultra-femme look this season, which makes me very happy! That lipsticked, flat-ironed look was a bit much. I mean I'm pretty femme myself... but OLIVIA? She was born to be bad. =P

    ...there's no way in hell that TPTB would ever make Benson gay now. So, it comes down to how close she gets to Alex.... :D

    I guess we should be grateful to be represented in a *hopefully* positive way when Ms Griffin plays a lesbian on SVU -- but WHY OH WHY can't we get REAL lesbian actresses to play gay???

    So many gay actors/actresses say that coming out ruins their chances of working, well if this isn't bass ackwards then I don't know what is . . .

    benson and cabot should go undercocer as lesbian couple or something and then have a fake kiss, even just a peck on the cheeks or something that would be great. that'll make people happy... well gay people at least.

    I love Kathy Griffin. She is a true idol of mine. If you haven't read her book yet I suggest that you do, it's a great read. Tons of laughs, of course, but you also get to really know her and see all she has been through. She is a great supporter of the gay community (I mean gay men basically built her career) so I know that any role that she does that has to do with lesbian's she will do respectfully.

     And Jesus!! I still can't believe what has happened to Audrey O'Day! She was sooooo hott when Making the Band 3 first started oh so many years ago!

    well, there's gonna be at least one episode of this show i won't be watching this season... i usually quit watching this show sometime during the season, anyway. i'm nowhere near prudish, but this show is just flat out disgusting sometimes. i like Stabler and Benson, though, 'cept i call him Stapler! : )

    I don't watch SVU, because more often than not the storylines are too sordid for me to enjoy as entertainment, but I'll tune in for this one.  Kathy Griffin is a tireless supporter of the LGBT community, and deserves our support in return.

    i think this should be the last season for svu and it is my favorite show to watch re-runs and all but it is getting pretty crappy.
