Is Sandra Bernhard a dance floor diva?I need your help, AfterEllen.com readers. I am perplexed by this new "music video" from Sandra Bernhard. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. Sandra Bernhard "Perfection"
OK, first of all, I know many of you won't have complaints about Ms. Bernhard moving around in her bra, but why? Is there some sort of artistic expression that goes along with the photographing of her exposed? Secondly, I just don't really get the song. Maybe it's just being taken out of context as a single. Maybe as part of the entire Perfection EP it works, but I am just not understanding why her friend's "timing is perfection" and why the rest of the song is her naming brands of jeans. Is it possible Sandra is trying to become a gay dance floor diva? I'm not sure if that's in the cards for her. I kind of like her as a comedian who used to wear stretch pants on Roseanne and make-out with Madonna.
To me, Sandra is best when she has something to say, which is (usually) all the time. I'm probably just stunned by her lack of mouth moving. If you are too, tune in to hear her on the Howard Stern Show today. She'll most likely have a lot to say there. Submitted by on November 11, 2008 - 9:00am. |

I Agree
I agree.. I don't get the song.. The lyrics are.. well, lacking words..
And the music video isn't at all matching with Sandra Bernhard as I know her.
Let's hope the rest of the EP is better then this, because frankly, this is not my taste of anything at all.

Different
That's what I'll say... It's...different...
Ah whatever, I don't get it, but I'm sure someone will. It's not my taste, but I bet she's got her own reasons for doing it like this, so we'll just see what happens and how the rest of the EP turns out.
Huh?
I get it...a little...kinda...sorta...maybe?
I mean jeans are great, I suppose Sandra thinks so too. "Your timing is perfection" maybe that's not really about the jeans collection but rather about herself. She's dancing around, showing off her body. She's older now...but the timing is perfection. She's still beautiful, still in shape. Maybe she likes her own body a lot more now that she's 'grown into it'?
Jeans...well, maybe she likes wearing them because they make her feel good-looking?
Then again...it kinda reminds me of Madonna's "Vogue"
And I'm probably totally wrong :p
Was that a music video?

I take it as a spoof of the countless celebs coming out with a clothing line and thinking it's pure genius.

Trish:
We met at Qmecon. I think we shared a panel. I reached out to you a few times. You could have asked me about the video. It's not rocket science. We put a track under one of her monologues and cut it to a photo shoot with Australian photographer Jasmine Hirst. That's it. I guess the artistic expression is in the eyes of the beholder. During the photo session Sandra was dancing to whatever was on the radio. As for the lyrics. Listen again. Is Sandra "trying to be a dance floor diva"? I think not. She's a good friend who, when asked if I can do this video said "sure, go for it". That said, thanks for writing about it.
