Gretchen Phillips gets comfortable

Gretchen Phillips has been out in the music business since she was just a sweet lady in the band Two Nice Girls.

After the disbanding of the group, she went on to perform solo, and after a five year hiatus, she's back with a new album, called I Was Just Comforting Her.

Phillips worked with another well-known lesbian musician on the disc:Melissa York of The Butchies and Team Dresch. The outcome is an eclectic tapestry of pop-country-folk-punk-rock with a lesbian tinge, with songs like "Honey, I Feel So Good" and "Burning Inside."

Sounds quite passionate, to me. And I can't help but love the album title. I Was Just Comforting Her — is that an explanation? An apology? I'm curious, and want to know more about what Gretchen Phillips has to say, especially when put to music.

Are you a fan of Phillips or her previous work with Two Nice Girls?

    Years ago I bought a CD called "Lesbian Favorites: Women Like Us" Swimming by Gretchen and I Spent My Last $10 (On Birth Control and Beer) by 2 Nice Girls were my favorite songs on that album.

    I love this new album! Peola is one of my favorite tracks on the disc.  I recommend the disc to all!

    How I miss Two Nice Girls! The album title sounds like this may be vintage Phillips -- I hope so. She's a genius with musical lesbian satire.

      Not Two and not Nice--one of my favorite bands of the very early nineties. Their 'mashup' of "Love and Affection" and "Sweet Jane" is masterful...

    I remember being a baby dyke and istening to 2 Nice Girls with my first girlfriend. Having any lesbian music AT ALL was amazing. 

    Gretchen keeps making smart and well crafted songs. YAY!

    I miss 2 Nice Girls sooo much. And jackio is completely right about that mashup of Love and Affection and Sweet Jane.
