watch your ears when you box with tyson!
i honestly didnt think it was possible to love you guys any more than i already do.. i mean with the glowing personalities, great humour and sexy accents ...but alas you have once again won me over with your love of baby seals. i love you for that.
i really found it disturbing enough to mutilate cattle in Destroy All Humans.. but clubbing baby seals is just above and beyond atrocious. thats like punching babies.. why would anyone ever suggest such a thing? horrible people.
as far as paper toss goes, sadly it didnt work as well i had envisioned. the medium fan setting was not powerful enough to create a gust that would disturb the trajectory of my paperball and the high setting was too high that it just ended up blowing my paperwork all over my desk and onto the floor. i wouldnt say that real paper toss is less fun than gaming paper toss but i would surely say its more complicated lol.
as for your enquiry as to where i work. i actually only work in the summer when im not going to school. the company i work for handles all of the property assessment for the province. i spent my summer writing a training manual for the province and updating information for the voter's list. fun times.... not. (possible interesting gaming related tidbit though is that i work in the same building as Silicon Knights the canadian video game development company. all the programers are interesting guys and the art director Carman seems like the nicest guy on the planet. its unfortunate that sales of their Too Human xbox 360 game wasn't that great apparently because they seem to be letting a lot of their workers go. it will be interesting to see what happens to the company in the future.)
but yea working in a boring office is why i have to find fun things to do on the weekends such as my facebook adventures lol but really when we get 8 months of winter here, we have to take advantage of the nice weather while it lasts :( .. i hope you realize how lucky you are to live in beautiful Oz : )
p.s. is that an original "I want to believe" UFO poster i see?? is it? is it? is it? .. cause if it is i bow to your awesomeness and pledge my undying adoration to you both : p
Shudder....
I have had an original "I Want to Believe" poster since I was a kid... well... teenager anyway. It has moved with me from my parents house to Guelph for school... It travelled to Oz with me when I did my grad studies there and it is still with me and up on my office wall. It's awesome. You need to locate one... RIGHT NOW!
you're in trouble
so jenn how is it that after all this time you never once mentioned having an "I want to believe" poster? hmmmmm?
it seems im horribly out of the loop. how is it that the kid who collects aliens and ufos is the only one without an i want to believe poster? this is inherently problematic. i must rectify this situation. consider me jealous of all of you.
Hmmmm..
I'm in trouble am I? That can always be fun....
I have no idea why I hadn't told you that I own one of those posters. I suppose I just assumed that you... THE UFO FAN would own one lol.
Don't be too jealous of me. While everyone else is enjoying the last sunny long weekend of the summer, I'll be working midnights and sleeping during the day. I'm so excited I don't think that I can even stand it.
I Agree
I see an X-Files poster! *cheers*
Right, don't lose any ears when boxing. I personally am not usually into sports games, but a button masher might be kinda fun, assuming you don't wear out your thumb. Maybe it is fun to play with others? :)
As for Overlord II, it really depends on what you can tolerate in a fantasy game/movie/book/whatever. I never liked some of the Dark Side stuff in the Knights of the Old Republic games, but GTA (for example) just seemed like unbridled mayhem at times. I am not sure why they felt so different. And you should never play something that makes you feel uncomfortable.I do kinda like playing "good" better, personally, even though evil will always triumph because good is dumb (Spaceballs ^_^ ).
Speaking of uncomfortable (and evil), Orson Scott Card very much does not care for LGBT peoples. There's little to be gained from quoting him here, as this is a fun place, but you can go and read his nonsense, if you want (
http://www.nauvoo.com/library/card-hypocrites.html ).
On the plus side, Star Trek novelist/comic book writer Peter David wrote the game script for Shadow Complex, and he is outspoken in support of LGBT rights. So, that is something. ^_^
Oh, and you can NEVER have too much nerdiness. Ever! :)
So I've totally been
So I've totally been shirking my commenting duties of late (which is what happens when you get stuck into writing an epic thesis) so I'm back with a vengeance!
I downloaded the Overload II demo and kind of had a "guh?" moment at the seals and gay elves. I don't think it helped having them so close together in the game as it just doubled my disgruntledness.
I also played the Wet demo today which was frakking AWESOME. It's like playing Kill Bill. I'm totally pre-ordering it.
You should do a retro special or maybe a console catch up type thing where you pick a console and do mini reviews of the 5 best must play games on that console? At least we're nearly back to pre-xmas games release months! You'll have loads to review then. You could always do a show about all the impending releases!
www.myspace.com/stopstartstall - acousticy music type stuff.
Flying spit! Wheeee!
The boxing game looks pretty realistic. Yay for slo-mo flying spit! But I have to say that I am not a big fan of people beating the crap out of one another.
I have one word for the SAW movie franchise....tortureporn. Ok, that is two words, but really, it is very graphic and unpleasant. No thanks. Just my opinion, I am sure that there are many folks who like it, since they are on what, movie #5 or something. Like your resistance to clubbing baby seals in the Overlord 2 game, it just seems to me to be too unapoligetically realistically violent to be deemed entertainment. That said, I have finished the DS game Overlords Minions, and no baby seals were clubbed. Just stinky plants, zombie globs and other gameworthy "enemies".
Looking forward to your scribblenauts review. Can you tell I am a total DS noob? I am currently impressed and stymied by the driving game Ferrari Challenge. Just picked up the James Bond Quantum Of Solace. I am loving the DS, and am glad I did not succumb to the sirens' song of "internet capability". I too was surprised to learn that the DSi is not capable of playing the more complex games available for the DS. Go figure.
Angela, when the time comes, wear the rooster hat!
Good Luck!
The paper toss reminded me of something cool i did once. Just take an electric fan and point it up at an angle from the floor. Then take a helium or air filled balloon that can't float by itself and drop it over the fan. Besides hitting it back onto the air stream to keep it afloat (which is plenty fun), you can try to get it in the "sweet spot" that will make it stay in the air indefinetly.
I played the original Overlord and i got bored of it pretty quick though i was curious about the whole princess thing.
As for the controversy (for Overlord and the live arcade game) - gaming is all about immersion and making a connection to the characters, story, and world. If there is something eating away at you whether it is outside knowledge or in-game experiences, its not worth playing.
I will finally have some free time again to play some video games starting this weekend. I need to finish all the games im replaying in time for the fall hits.
Good luck on finding a new job. I'm looking for one too... let me know if you have any extras : P
See you next time!
Aww Jenny wouldn't club baby seals!

First time watcher
Having an absolute addiction to gaming I'm quite surprised I've never watched your vlogs before. But when I saw Fight Night Round 4 in the title I had to check it out and I have to say I loved it. You guys really know your stuff and give real information, not just your own opinions.
On FN 4 I have to ask though, did you guys play Round 3? Because most of the things you mentioned you liked about the game were also in Round 3. Of course you both did mention not being very much into boxing games and I guess I can't expect you to play every single game there is. But I feel that it's the same as what you said about Overlord: buy the previous one first, if you like it and want more then buy this one.
Now Overlord II, the whole clubbing thing really put me off too. Since it's a game developed in the Netherlands I wasn't really objective. I loved the first one and bought the new one as soon as it was out. It was kind of more of the same thing after the first one, but like I said I wasn't objective, so I loved every second of it. Right up until they asked me to kill baby seals. Like you said, it pulled me out of the game and I wasn't able to get back into it. They could've made those seals so many other things that would've worked perfectly and that I would've happily killed. It's just a damn shame, haven't played the game since.
Okay, so that was more than enough for my first post here. Thank you for the wonderful vlog and I'll definitely be watching the next one.
Saw franchise
I can't believe you guys haven't seen any SAW movies, I'm not a big horror movie fan, I only watch them with my best mate, but i loved the SAW franchise. If you liked Se7en (that Brad Pitt movie) its kinda along those lines, but i felt that after watching SAW 5, you kinda feel sorry for the guy causing all the deaths.
I spent the day watching Milk and The Tasty Bust and am feeling a little like a student gay activist so i might pass on Shadow Complex and instead, try and figure out a costume for Queer camp next week! :)
Only 119 days
I totally get your ‘line in the sand’ moment in the game with the baby seals. I’m actually a little shocked that the game made it thru the (dopy-ass) Aussie game classification folk. They’ve stopped or had edited way worse than that. I know that violence in video games means different things to different people. Personally, I prefer games where the baddies (yes, that is what I call them) are human (or human-ish) rather than Aliens or Zombies. I haven’t quite admitted to myself that it’s probably a scaredy cat thing, my little mind of delusion is still on the ‘it’s more realistic’ excuse bandwagon.
It’s only 119 games until Santa arrives, so I echo (mmm...Echo...dollhouse) earlier comments that it’s probably a good idea to look ahead to see what’s coming out for the consoles by year’s end. I’ve got the following on my wish list:
Uncharted 2, Assassin’s Creed II, COD Modern Warfare II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.
BTW, when’s the new house tour going to be shown? Is there anywhere to see the Rally car footage & other fun stuff that hasn’t been on the vlog? Is there any way to download the vlog to play it on my iPhone?
5 different nachos
A) you posted a trailer for the new WOW expansion and even mentioned goblins and worgens, so I of course clicked it, and now, now I want to get back in and start playing again! Curse you! It's been almost a year but I'll come back to play as a goblin. I'm so willing to go back for it, and it sucks up so much of the time I no longer have :(
B) I rented FNR4 and while I enjoyed it, the online play was something I avoided. I loved the training games, they were much better than those in FNR3. and the Total Punch Control is also better. I actually got my 360 for FNR3, so I was so excited about 4. It was fun. And I got to be violent. And not club baby seals. But I still didn't buy it. It doesn't have the same replay as other games that I have.
Oh, now to pretend to be a stalker - I know what building and what agency you work for in the Garden City, ufos_are_real. Although, it's mostly because I used to rely on reports from your agency when I was auditing real estate companies. I also bet that you spend some time down at Pheonix Rising or Mostly Comics, and if you don't, you should, because you would so love that part of St. Paul St. But, I have a question, does Deloitte still have an office in the building? Oh, also, is there a good burrito place near there?
ufos needs to shut up lol
ha well i guess ive obviously given far too much information away
but as of friday i no longer work there.. so ill try and be less terrified of stalkers wanting to kill me lol
ive never actually heard of phoenix rising? and surprisingly ive never been in mostly comics but i have friends who rave about it. i honestly find downtown scary, and all of st. paul and that area is a little sheisty to me .. im normally walking swiftly through downtown and never really think to stop. ive also never heard of deloitte, i cant say for certain they dont have an office in the building but ive certainly never heard the name. as for burritos .. hmm .. im probably not the best person to be asking considering i dont live in the city and i only ever eat at the same two places downtown.. but i cant think of anywhere that would sell burriots .. you can find alot of places that have wraps and two places that do pitsas but i cant think of any that have burritos.. sorry to disappoint : |
Legacy of Kain
Too much info was mentioning Silicon Knights. A few of my friends used to be artists for them, back in the PSone days, and sometimes, we used to have movie marathons in their video room. Also, the founder used to come to the university and pitch the company to students. Of course, this was due to some serious begging from one of the profs for examples of succesful home growns.
Phoenix Rising is pen and paper, ccg, Warhammer etc store. As for burritos, that's not dissapointing to hear, I'm trying to figure out what kind of lunch foods are covered for downtown.
So, if you find that part of downtown scary, I'm assuming you avoid most of Toronto then?
bubble wall
i hear the SK theatre room is quiet impressive. you must be a very important person to have gotten through their extreme security measures lol .. i also love their bubble wall on the 8th floor .. its super cool. (although not nearly as cool as tracy and angela's light up bubble wall which is the coolest house feature EVER!!!!!!!).
thunderpants.. am i to assume you lived in the region at some point? or still do? you sure do seem to have a lot of insider info lol .. and as for toronto .. no .. i keep my ass out of toronto as much as possible. im just not a fan of big cities really or largely crowded areas in general.. st. catharines isnt really that bad... its just a little disconcerting that an arsonist burnt down the building around the corner from the office. not to mention the traffic is hideous in st kitts and now that they have turned the one way streets to two way the construction never ends. as for food, you can find a great deal of variety downtown everything from sushi to thai to greek .. just no mexican i guess : p
Leatherface meets baby, baby wins
I grew up and went to university there, and also started my career there too. I live in big bad T.O now, or, as I like to stress - Etobicoke, the city where garbage services is privatized. I still have friends and family in town, but I have yet to drive on a 2 way St. Paul St. That kind of disturbs me.
Actually, some of my friends came up to Toronto for Fanexpo...and guess who had a booth demoing their new big game? BIOWARE! With Dragon Age Origins!!! I played a teeeny tiny bit, but spent more time trying to snag an invite to the launch party. I think I made some serious inroads, and if only I had exchanged contact info, I might have been partying it up in wonderful Edmonton (actually, it's a really nice city) or in LA. Other things that happened at the con - my friends and their daughter (15 months) got their picture taken with Emma Caulfield, 501st legion, stealing Luke's lightsaber, being menaced by Leatherface and on and on.
I think the trick is to have an adorable little kid, and then you can get all the geeky photos your heart desires.
bunnies.. it must be bunnies
i find it really pretty funny that out of all the places in canada you and i just happened to go to the same university. small world. : )
so happy to hear etobicoke had privatized garbage service for you thunderpants.. i could not imagine the state of toronto without garbage pickup : | .. as for fanexpo .. Dragon Age: Origins looks awesome.. aesthetically the trailer looks phenomenal to me, thats so rad you got to play some. .... also rad is EMMA CAULFIELD! .. soooo cool. although i must admit it disturbs me greatly to think of a photo with leatherface and a 15 month old baby .. that just terrifies me for no good reason lol
Fight Night Round Four is Awesome!
Got the tourney going right now! A lot better than Fight Night Round 3 maybe because I played it way too much.
Online play is beautiful for sports game a wider range to play so many people and get ready for the major tourneys. I am not good enough but it is awesome to get my butt kicked by top ranked players from time to time.
But I guess I have to be the only person who is still a sucker for sports games : D
Matt's world you just live in it!
The iPhone....
I have spent much time lately weighing the pros and cons of owning the wonderful and spiffy iPhone. The conclusion I have come to is that I will have to think about it some more. I'm not sure if I can part with my Blackberry. I mean.. I'm practically dating my Blackberry. I don't want it to get mad at me and be all passive aggressive and stuff.
Not gonna lie... I'm not usually into button smashing games, and I theory I think that boxing is a barbaric sport. Unless you're playing it on the Wii, in which case it is both adorable and tiring. But... Fight Night looks like it might be alright. I may have to consider giving it a go.
Hope you're both feeling better. :)
I must say I am VERY
I must say I am VERY impressed by the element t-shirt :) I've been playing on skate 2 lately, and a nice new element skateboard has just arrived in our house (sadly, not for me as I am rubbish at it).
OMG fight night round 4 look sooo good :( even though I'm not the biggest fan of the sport I've always loved fighting games (I blame tekken) and I love learning boxing (just not doing it). I would buy it but I'm going to be seperated from the ps3 in 3 weeks and downgraded to the spare ps2...back to uni! Annoying :(
I commend you for not wanting to club seals! Lol I went through the animal rights phase when I was younger...strange how I'd feel more awkward about that than shooting people in a war game :/ I suppose then it actually makes sense...
It sucks that buying a good game partially supports a homophobic activist...hmm...it's so difficult because some may say you should boycott it, but like you said thats damaging so many more people than just that one. So difficult!
Great vlog as usual :) always cheers me up!
The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes, but don't be afraid...
Excellent Vlog
*drools over X-files poster* Well, I know the first things I am stealing, um... I mean liberating, when i come over there!
I'm sorry, I just can't get rid of my crackberry *huggles it* I can't handle the texting on the iphone- i tweet and text waaay too much.
Fight Night Round 4 looks really good, iand it might be one that I actually go out and rent. I do enjoy boxing games, so I think I will like it. Of course, it will never compare to Mike Tyson's Punch Out! on the NES, but I'll give it a shot.
I just picked up Beatles Rock Band, and I love it- I look forward to your review of it!
