Gay Girls Who Game: "Mirror's Edge" and "Microsoft Lips"

This week Tracy and Angela from LesbianGamers.com participate in a little stationary parkour with their review of "Mirror's Edge" on the Xbox 360. When they're not running around looking for red stationary objects, they manage to fit in a full on musical assault, with reviews of "Rock Band 2," "SingStar 3" and "Microsoft Lips."

Find out why they don't get first person jumping games, whether "Rock Band 2" works with the "Guitar Hero World Tour" kit and, more importantly, whether "Lips" has a lesbian offering in the advert and is as good as "SingStar."

Hello :)

aahhh.. Mario Kart.. well I don't have the DS cartridge anymore (was from Lovefilm, a rental service for DVDs and games)..but I'm still honing my skills on the Wii..just in case you fancy a challenge ;)

Will have a serious think about animal crossing to pop by :D..Angela: did you mean AC for the DS or the Wii (cos my friend has got it for the DS)

The singstar looks def lots of fun.. oh I need a modern console (i.e. PS3 and or XBox360) to savour the many titles .. and I agree with your assesment.. those ladies were def! singing to each other..talk about lesbian subtext there ;D Great find!

Great vlog again ladies... can't wait for the next one!

Season's greetings to you :D

I love the Vlog

Thanks for the awesome reviews on the games, i am happy to say that thanks to your comments about the xbox 360 I have now bought one.  I have all the Lara Croft games for it now.  I like Mirror's Edge it gives me a real thrill as I play.  I love just running and leaping around the city and being chased is pretty breathtaking.  The big reason is it's nice to see Eurasian character as the main character.  (I am Eurasian myself)  My only complaint is the game is far to short.

Wishing you both a merry christmas and awesome new year

Christmas Presents...?

About time I commented on this.. xD

Well, our PS2 broke (disc reading error) and my dad (and I, admittedly) wants to get a new console for Christmas. We're kind of having trouble deciding whether to get a PS3 or an Xbox 360. (*Dad cuts in* "Is the PS3 backwards-compatible?")

Gotta love the L Word ratings..

Class vlog as always!

SweetTalentedOne's picture

Answering your father...

The PS3's that are on the market, the 80GB and the 160GB are not backwards compatible.  If you can find the first model 80GB(which will include SD card slots on the front of the machine) or the 60GB models they will play about 80% of PS2 games.

Sweet

glad to know

oh, thank you for this. i have been wanting to play PS1 games but was wondering if it'll be compatible on a PS3. now i know!

 :)

pocketful of...

i guess i have to start saving up if wii games are coming in 2009. aaah..i havent got my hands on rock band 2. hasnt hit the shores yet. i heard that the world tour instruments work on 360 maybe on ps3 too but i havent heard anything yet on the wii. hope it works. gonna burn holes in my pocket if it doesnt :(

interesting ratings on this week games. niiice!

Hello lovely ladies...

Great reviews (as always) and thanks for the Mirror's Edge review. I had wondered if it was free roaming. Apparantly not. I don't like 1st person games in general (my dad is playin Marrowind Oblivion currently and the other day I told him I can't even stand watching 1st person games...but he doesn't care he hates fast action games. He's all about rpg) but Mirror's Edge...I like the trailor.....even though it was against my 1st-person-game-hating self to be curious....I think you've made up my mind. I shall pass and set my eyes on other games! Happy Holidays!

Left 4 Dead fun time

So, as the cruise director of this xbox live ship, let's get this left 4 dead co-op game going.

If you would like to play (and have xbox live gold and are planning on either buying or renting left 4 dead) email me at xanadugrrl @ gmail (dot) com with the subject Left 4 Dead.

We can take up to 8 people at a time.

Send me the following information:

Your AfterEllen name

Days you are available to play between Friday, December 19 and Monday, January 12 (just to give us a lot of options)

The earliest time you are willing to START playing (for ex., 7am)

The latest time you are willing to START playing (for ex., 11pm)

The largest city in your time zone (so i can figure out the times)

Your gamertag

Getting together the times will be the trickiest, but I think it can be done.  Being the geek I am, I will throw together an excel spreadsheet and with my World Clock converter, will attempt to figure out a few times to play.

Another fantastic review.....they aren't games I'll be buying but its great to get an educated take on them...especially when you both have different likes/dislikes of games.

Loved your Peggy Peabody rating...genius

Mirrors edge looks great, but I think we're at a point with games now where we expect more than just stunning environments we need more substance too.

Recently got the chance to do some co-op on left for dead with Dany, Han m and contendo....I was a co-op virgin and I made some basic mistakes(crossfire is a terrible thing)but aside from that I really got into it. Its so addictive. Looking forward to your Christmas edition.

cheers

loving the new vlog,

loving the new vlog, cant wait till next week =D

too bad that you cant switch to d-pad :( she shall just have to make do with her enrique englesias (sp?) cd :P

im not happy as my call of duty 4 has broke :( and so has my fable 2 (which wasnt my fault by the way), so the only game that i havent got sick of yet it rockband so i have to play that untill christmas although i gotta admit its not that much fun playing on your own and then you get mad haha, so i was wondering if you new any great games that you can play for live because the ones im getting are not for that reason at all

and are PS3's better than 360s? i dont think so but ive heard from alot of people they are so im doubting it seen as though ive never actually seen one in real life let alone play on one haha

"there are parties devoted to swapping ..."

alright #1 - the closed captioning for this episode was beyond priceless!

#2 - now that youve teased me with a mention of NFS.. you HAVE to review Undercover! ...do i need to beg?? i was planning on playing this for the Wii after christmas but now im so amped for it im hoping it comes in the form of a birthday present so i wont have to wait til christmas lol  .. it just doesnt get sexier than a Stingray Corvette .. mmm need for speed.. must break the curse of cruddy Wii games!

Gryphie's picture

I dunno....

I kinda think you should beg...  lol

I was trying to ignore the fact that all the Wii games have been crap lately.  But then I stopped and thought about it for a little bit and realized that I couldn't afford to buy any games even if they were awesome.

And... I think I need to suck it up and get myself an XBox.  Dammit.

ufos_are_real's picture

such a tease ...

seriously? ... that wasnt enough begging? .. what do you suggest Gryphie i get on my knees on the floor? .. or perhaps pout and say please repeatedly?  .. perhaps you shall have to teach me that pouty thing you do so well lol .. but really if you pick up a 360 then im the one coming to your house lol

*repeatedly begs Tracy and Angela to review NFS.. please?..please?* :)

Gryphie's picture

Well....

I suppose that'll do for the time being lol.  I could teach you the pouty thing. But I gotta tell you, in the end it usually gets me into some sort of trouble.  Not necessarily unwanted trouble, but trouble nonetheless ;)

If/when I get an XBox you are more than welcome to come to my house and play.  I only ask that when you come you bring some Diet Pepsi Max.  I always need that extra hit of caffeine lol.

ufos_are_real's picture

its fun getting in to trouble...

for the time being? .. hmm that sounds ominious. but really now if you actually slept once in a while then maybe you wouldnt need so much caffeine to keep you awake! ; )

*fingers still crossed for an Undercover review*

Gryphie's picture

Indeed...

Getting into trouble can be a lot of fun. And you know that I don't have time to sleep.  I have four jobs.  When am I supposed to sleep???  lol.  The Christmas break is almost here though, so I'll get a few weeks off.  I'm so happy!

I hope your begging works....  ;)

First ... Happy 1 Year Anniversary for your Vlog - 12/18/07

I sure hope I did NOT hear you say you were taking 4 weeks off !!  HEAVY SIGH !! Sniff sniff.  Oh well, if you do, I guess I will just start watching your Vlogs again from the beginning.

TOTAL LAUGH for your Mirrors Edge reinactment.   I downloaded the demo a few days ago and HATED it.  I like first person games ... but only when I get to shoot back at the people who shoot at me.  Looks like with this game ... Tracy became an 'Angela Gamer'.

I wish I could join in the Zombie Bloodbath over X-mas.  Sadly, I will be working my tail off.  Let me know how it all goes.

so many good things

about this vlog. love it!! i had to pick my head out the gutter =D

haven't commented for a while, but have been watching and lurking, hehe.

i was looking forward to the animal crossing on wii review, as i've been 50/50 on buying it.
i have to say that i got AC on DS for my birthday last year (mar 07), played it for about 30mins, and then didn't play it again... until... i kept hearing the two of you go on and on and on and on and on... so thanks!! i am TOTALLY hooked, lol!! i took a break and played a few different games, but am now back on AC as i got bored with the others!
so yeah, i was kinda looking forward to AC on wii, but also thinking, will it be that different?

you answered that, so i'm not going to buy it right now. i probably will eventually, but it's not top of my games list anymore, although that list is on hold for xmas!!

one question though. if i were to visit another town over wifi (not ds to ds), does that person have to be on their game at the same time? always wondered about that.

onto PS3!! i got guitar hero world tour, the full band pack, go me! not sure if i have drum kit problems, as i've only tried it the once, and seemed okay. the foot pedal did seem to need a good press, but not sure if that's just me, or not. it's been years since i was near a real drum kit, and their bass pedal is a lot more sensitive compared to GH, so think that's where i'm going wrong. have to give it another try and make sure the whole drum kit works!

also, i have a problem with guitar hero, or maybe the PS3. i wasn't sure whether to ask here, or go onto lesbiangamers and check out the forum there (there is a forum, right?!), so i might do both!!

having the full band pack, the game was marketed that you could play 3-4 players at once, obviously not all on my own, hehe, but i am now wondering how the hell i do that, when i have a PS3 with only TWO usb ports, and 4 instruments needing to be plugged in...
my questions (hope someone can help!) can i add usb ports? like you can do with a pc? if not, seriously annoyed gamer over here!!!

i also have another problem with my PS3 in that, it's the 40gb model, and i recently picked up 5 half price games (BARGAIN!!! saint's row 2, far cry 2, bioshock, shaun white's snowboarding and fifa 08) to bring my total to 26 games. having played 3 of 5, i tried to play far cry only to be told i needed to clear 156mb of space to play. so i thought, okay, i'll try bioshock instead, only to be told i needed around 1400mb of space. FFS!!!

so i deleted a couple of demos, cleared over 2400mb of space. so i played bioshock first (first impressions, very nice!! again, bought on your reviews!) and then i tried far cry 2, only to be told i needed to clear over 1500mb of space... again FFS!!!

that's the one thing i don't like about PS3, the fact most games takes ages to load everything onto the hard drive, before you can play. this means i'm gonna have to delete other games to play far cry, and if i decide i want to play the games i've deleted, i'm gonna have no space, and/or have to wait all that time again. GTA4 took over half an hour to install...

so now i'm thinking bigger hard drive, but i dunno what that involves. funny question - does the xbox 360 have the same thing? installing games before playing??

i did say way back when mirror's edge was mentioned by yourselves, that i wouldn't enjoy mirror's edge. having seen your review and the gameplay, i so know i wouldn't like it!!

dylan's coming back?! yay!!

i have rambled on about my ps3 problems, but problems are there for sharing, lmao!! if you think i should head over to lesbiangamers with them, i will!! =D

i did have littlebigplanet on my xmas list, so i'm hoping i get it, although if my ps3 is full, what's the point?! got another couple of games on the list, so gonna have to wait til next week! love it!

anyways, merry christmas girls, and every one else here!!

Xbox360

Your question ...  funny question - does the xbox 360 have the same thing? installing games before playing??       I am no expert on the 360, but I have one with an original 20G HD.  As far as I know, the only thing that gets loaded onto the hard drive is your game status and any demos or arcade games you have downloaded.  The games you buy on a CD does not download on the HD.  Once you put the CD in, it is ready to play within a minute usually.  I still have over 11G freespace on my HD.  You can connect an external HD if you want.  With the new Xbox dashboard, I think it gives you the option to put your game on the HD .... but it takes up lots of space.

thanks for the reply! i

thanks for the reply!

i didn't think xbox installed games before play. typical sony!!

ooh, external hard drive, wonder if i can do that with PS3. i seriously need to find a site that can answer all my questions!!

i buy a console, buy games, and use console to play games. i don't go into the whole hardware stuff and how it works, which is my problem now, lol!!

playstation 1 and 2, and psp, were so much easier, hehe!!

thanks for answering!!

As long as you have a usb

As long as you have a usb external hard drive I'm fairly certain you can plug it into your ps3 and watch stuff/listen to music on it.  I think they're pushing the multimedia side of things with xboxes and ps3s now and I know it definitely works with an xbox so I can't imagine it not working with a ps3!

Can't you just add a usb

Can't you just add a usb hub to the ps3?  I know you can with an xbox, and I guess they'll be the same.  Just make sure you get a powered one with a plug and not one that's bus powered cuz I don't know what the ps3 is like for powering things from usb ports.  The Rockband band in a box thing comes with a usb hub, isn't there one with GH:WT?

www.myspace.com/stopstartstall - acousticy music type stuff.

Gillian's picture

that's what i want to know,

that's what i want to know, if PS3 does take a usb hub, that's what i meant with 'can i add more usb ports?' lol, couldn't think of the hub word...

so yeah, that's what i wanted to know. don't think GH came with a hub.

if it did, it'll still be in the box, which i just got put up in the loft... my dad's gonna be SO happy about needing to go back up there, lmao!! just have to wait until after xmas, when the decorations get put away, i'll get him to check the box.

if not, i think my dad has a spare hub lying about, so i could just try that.

thanks for the help!

edit: just found a hub on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pebble-Entertainment-Black-USB-Hub/dp/B001FWXFIG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1229517834&sr=1-1

at least now i know they exist and it can be done, woooot!!!

Best place for advice...

I have found the best place to get advice for this stuff is a Eletronics store (I go to Fry's here in Austin).  I talk to the Gaming and Geek sales people (usally I talk to more then one) and they give me great advice on how to hook things up and what works and what doesn't.  I make sure I talk to knowledgable people because some sales people just want to sell you something and others actually know what they are talking about.  I start in the Gaming section and talk to them (most of them game and know what they are talking about) then I go over to the Computer section and talk to them about my situation and see if they have a different solution.  Sometimes I have saved myself hundreds of dollars just by talking to the Gaming Geek (I say that with LOVE) in the store.  They are the best resource for sure.  It works for me.

Thanks for the Mirror's

Thanks for the Mirror's Edge review, sad to hear that you didn't like it so much.  :(  I think I'm getting it for my birthday or christmas so I can play it soon and see how it goes.  When you were saying that it wasn't on EA's top whatever list, my girlfriend informed me that she's fairly certain that EA let their game developers work on Mirror's Edge as a sort of pet project funded by all their big franchise games cuz the coding was all new and interesting or some such.  She says it's something to do with the physics and such in it.  I have no idea but she does Computer Science and all sorts of programming type stuff so I'll take her word for it!

Still having fun on left 4 dead co-op with our growing collection of afterellen people.  I've never played versus mode but I imagine I'll be just as bad at that as I am the normal game. :D

Also I squeed at the Kath & Kim reference (the Aussie original natch, not the rediculous US remake).  I love K & K a little more than is probably healthy.

Replying to my own comment

Replying to my own comment to say that I got Mirror's Edge and I understand completely what you mean. It's the most infuriating game I have ever played (apart from maybe the harder levels of Portal). I've lost count of the number of times I fell off things or got shot at and died. It's a shame cuz it could have been great, as it is I just get lost a lot and fall off things and have to restart every five minutes. Not a fun gaming experience really.

Awww, Mirror's Edge

I just got Left 4 Dead but haven't had a chance to play it yet, everytime I've gone near my sofa, I've somehow woken up at 5 am. My sofa is evil.  Evil evil sofa.

Your review of Mirror's Edge is comparable to everything else I've read and that makes me sad :( I had such high hopes for it, but then I saw the demo and got a little leery and your very excellent demonstratin fully cleared up any lingering doubts I had.   But I think I will try some real life Mirror's Edge, but with the red replaced by one of my two cats.  Just not the one that likes to be on top of the fridge...I don't think fridge's are good for standing on.

Which is good, because my gaming budget was so overblown for the year, especially if I count from the START of the year, as opposed to say...September.

Mirror's edge made me wanna cry :)

Have you had a chance to look at COD5 or WaW or w/e activitions calling it now? I haven't really had a chance to play it yet, but from what i can tell it still sucks. But, I'm still bias that they should have stopped at COD2.

Aside from that have you heard anything about what the symbols mean in the MG trailer? http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43426.html

Dylan's picture

Hey hey :)

First off /has a finger flashing induced seizure

Ok, now that's over with can I just say, bushes? Tongue? Spontaneous orgasms? I'm officially shocked ;)

Now I seriously have to blag me an Xbox somehow so I can join in the online fun. Sounds like it would be a blast, though I'm not one for randomly vomiting on people to be fair :p

You keep making me want to start playing Tomb Raider again. I played the first few games but they got a bit samey. The new one looks awesome but I'm a bit worried about how short I hear it is. If I'm going to hand over a pocket full of cash for a game, I like to know I'll get plenty of play out of it. Maybe I'll wait for the price to drop, as per usual /sigh

Which brings me to the sad conclusion that even though I'd love to put my name into the hat to write your PC review/roundup at your site, I just don't have the cash to buy a lot of games. Plus, I've pretty much mainly only written fiction in the past - apart from my own blog - so I doubt you'd have much use for a previously published writer of naughty erotica ^^

Anyhow, it will be cool to see more PC reviews for us few that don't have one of the cool consoles. If you ever want somebody to ramble on about random gaming experiences though, just let me know. I'm nothing if not opinionated, especially about things that I enjoy, and writing is my thing when I'm not working or yunno...gaming :p

I have to say, you not only make me want to play more with Lara - mind out of the gutter, again - you also make me wish I could sing. Those games look like a lot of fun, but I'd be worried about chasing off the cat or making the neighbours instigate a restraining order. The idea of sparkly mics does appeal, however.

And so to Mirror's Edge. All I can say is...ugh! First person perspective makes me claustrophobic even when just watching your trailer. I just can't play those games and have fun, and it seems like all the jumping would be a nightmare for me. It looks like trying to do the impossible while blindfolded to the point where you can only see your hands and what's in front of you. Makes me shudder. Thank God real life offers us more peripheral vision. It's handy for those times I need to leap across buildings and such. Yunno, a normal Friday night.

Thanks once again for the vlog and the reviews. If I don't get the chance to comment again beforehand, have a very happy Xmas :)

That line has been haunting me since toxic has come out.. considering my name is Brittany. If I never hear that again, it will be too soon.

I finally got the wireless adapter and got playing on Live... I am without friends and have been using my trial to play anonymous men on Madden '09. It seems as though I need to get into Zombie games for all the action on Live. Maybe after the holidays when the money isn't tied to games for other people :(

I've read a lot of people with gaming budget woes, so if you ever wanted to a review an affordable (free!) PC game, check out Combat Arms. It's pretty addictive!

Queer hands up

Hiya there.

Thanks again for your review... Hmm. I'm not so much into Karaoke-like games, though I like singing a lot and aloud :)

Anyway, the only music-inspired game I actually tried out was Nintendo GameCube's Donkey Kong Jungle Beat including Bongos. Dong, clap, dong, clap, dong, ohhh, what the hell am I doing here??

Mirror's Edge. Yay for female fighters, but I did encounter motion sickness while watching that trailer. Usually, I like third-person shooter games better, mostly the ones with slow motion functionality (Max Payne* for example), just minor dizziness. I almost puked while playing Unreal Tournament for too long. Now I prefer adventure games :) (Getting old and slow---)

Nice to see you back before the holidays!

PS: I think you can pronounce my nick with short a, non-American slang ;)

Mirrors Edge is genius!

Hello I usually love you girls but right now I hate you so mutch im very disapointed, how can you not see that Mirrors Edge is a brilliant game its got great reviews because its an amazing game, its an oldschool style game for the hardcore gamer like back in the 80s when you had to become skillfull in the game in order to master it and to get into the flow like the old Megaman games back in the 8bit age. You have gotten used to the boring easy games of today when nothing is a challenge and when you come across a game like Mirrors Edge that is actually challenging you get frustrated and despice it! come on you have to become skillfull at it and master the flow and also finnish the game before you can review then its an incredible feeling of satisfaction when you get the flow going and running and jumping. and its not repetetive, it has multiple ways of getting threw a stage and there is puzzels to be solved and so on. And its the most feminist game out there right know, this game is beautiful the characters are beutiful and its breaking down the awful stereotype and sexist views of women in gaming like "Lara Croft" and "women in japanese games like Devil may cry 4" and that there are no real women in Gears of War 2 only the men are fighting! its horrible, this games takes a stand against all that and brakes down does stereotypes.

But otherwise I love you girls, you usually are spot on.

Oh bye the way you critizised femenistgamers for reviewing GTAIV before they even played the game and said that was bad and I agree. so now im saying you should atleast finnish the game before you review it. And maybe get a second opinion from some who actually liked the game. All does reviewers in the indusrty that gave Mirrors Edge an 8/10 review cant be wrong.

Im Swedish by the way and im proud of Dice and Mirrors Edge =)

Okay good day to you and sorry if I come of as a bit agressive, love and kisses =)

Mirrors Edge is genius!

Hi, I just wanted to add that I was in a hurry when I wrote that last comment and my spelling and grammar was really bad but I think you girls understand what Im trying to say. And I also wanted to add that I agree with you that the cut scenes in Mirrors Edge are bad and that the Combat was kind of boring and not as much fun as climbing and solving puzzles but other than that the game was awesome. The gameplay is awesome even more awesome when you get your flow going and complete several obstacles in a row! Then you really get an adrenalin rush going! The design is beautiful and awesome, the story is kind of standard not very original but it works for the game since this game is really about gameplay and not so much about the story. And the character design is really great in this game they feel like real well trained people, real humans and not some sort of sexist stereotype super humans as in lots of other games. I dont agree with you that first person perspective would not work for platform gaming. It works great its just a matter of practice and getting used to that perspective. Im used to that kind of perspective because I play all kinds of games not just third person adventure or action, so I learned pretty fast how to handle the controls of Mirrors Edge and felt very comfortable after a while. I don´t think is fair to criticize Mirrors Edge because you are not used to playing games in first person perspective, thats like me giving a movie like Dirty Dancing a bad review because I don´t like dancing. So If you don´t like first person perspective then maybe you can learn to like it or maybe Mirrors Edge is not for you but it does not mean that Mirrors Edge is a bad game. Otherwise it would not have gotten so many great reviews from so many game journalists in the world. So other than the cut scenes and the boring combat and that its to short this game merits a high score of at least 8/10 If they manage to fix these things for the sequel its gonna be even more awesome and score 10/10!
Yeah! go Faith and Mirrors Edge and Dice!

okay thats enough about Mirrors Edge, I love you girls and your Vlog is great its a breath of fresh air in an industry thats to much dominated by men and homophobes and sexism. Love and kisses, keep up the good work =)

to post or not to post.. that is the question

i really debated on whether or not i should reply to this because it in no way involves me nor is it directed at me but because im feeling oddly protective of these two at the moment .. i figured id just say my peace

@Chamullo82 - i find it a little sad that your first post here comes in the form of harsh criticism. there is a difference between offering constructive criticism and the tone with which this was said.
i think it stands to reason that if you already know you enjoy first person player games then you are probably more likely to enjoy Mirrors Edge and therefore, the insdustry reviewers giving it 8/10 would probably be enough to satisfy you. however, with game prices being what they are i think its vital to get a second opinion from someone without ulterior motives who will be honest about the potential downfalls of the game for some people who may not be accustomed to first player but were considering buying it - not realizing what they were getting into. but i think the key thing here though is that it is a personal vlog, its only ever been offered as two people's personal opinions and in no way have they attempted to make gross all encompassing generalizations about its suitability for every gamer - only its suitability for themselves as gamers. Its all just personal opinion - every viewer can put as much or as little stock into that as they like and take it for what its worth and come to your own conclusions about whether or not its right for you : )

More topic mirroring

Great vlog again! (especially the subtle humor!)

I just wanted to say that looking at games like Jedi Academy and Assassins Creed, they could have made a really good 3rd person free-running game. The fact that they changed it into a linear platformer with only one or 2 routes to the finish is really dissapointing.

I think a huge issue with gaming now is that people don't realize that there are thousands of good ideas that can be found in old games that just need some modern graphics to be reborn.

Anyways... time for some Soul Calibur 4!!!

Mirrors Edge is Beutiful I think =)

Hello, thanks for your respond. I’m sorry that I came of as harsh, I was very upset because I love this game and I think it is doing wonderful things for the gaming community in the way it portrays women in a more realistic, beautiful and more politically correct way than women usually have been portrayed before in the videogame industry. And I also think its a fresh and innovating way of making a platform game that brings something new and fun to the platform genre. And of course the design is gorgeous but we know that already. And so I imagined that if anybody would understand the brilliance of this game it wouldbe the ”Gay Girls who Game” and when they didn’t I reacted very emotionally and had to write that angry comment to bring some counter balance to their review. I agree that in the beginning this might have been a personal blog that just represented their personal opinion but now it has grown and it has become something more and what they say here is an actual review. You can see in the head page of lesbiangamers where it says read our latest reviews and there is a list of games like ”Dead Space” and ”Left4Dead” and so on. You click on these links and you get to a written review and also a link to the Gay Girls who Game video ”review” (note the word review). So in my opinion this is not just a personal blog it is in fact a review and a lot of gamers come here and see this video review to get an opinion about the games that they might be interested in. I agree that it is important with a second opinion about all kinds of games not just Mirrors Edge and it is true that if you are not accustomed to first person perspective or frankly don’t like that perspective then Mirrors Edge might be frustrating and no fun at all but that does not mean it doesn’t merit an 8/10 score. And I don’t think they said it that way, they just talked about the stuff they didn’t like about the game and yes they did mentioned the great design and that its innovating but that’s all they mentioned and nothing more. One of the girls hated it and she expressed herself emotionally and the other girl liked it more but since the other one hated it (its not saying much) so I would have liked it if they got an opinion from someone who actually did enjoy the game like I did. That way you would have a grater understanding for the ups and downs of Mirrors Edge and if this game is in fact for you or not. I know this is a ”personal blog” but know it has grown and so has their responsibilities to the gamers. They said they are going to wait with the review for Fallout 3 because they said the game is so massive and they haven’t finished it yet, that’s great! I wish they would do the same with Mirrors Edge. I just want to give my fellow gamers a better understanding of Mirrors Edge. It is a great game but it is not for everyone, either you love it or hate it. It's a game for someone who likes a challenge and doesn’t get frustrated when you fall or die (50 times) so its like an old school 80s videogame like the megaman series, dose were really challenging but a lot of fun. And it’s for people who like playing videogames in the first person perspective who doesn’t get nauseous or airsick when playing in that perspective. And it is also a game for people who like seeing a really cool woman on the lead that’s different from anything else in the game industry today. There have been other cool women in the videogame industry like Samus Aran (Metroid Prime Series) and Alyx Vance (Half Life 2) but no one quite so cool and realistic as Faith of Mirrors Edge and she is not the only cool female character of Mirrors Edge their are many more. So again I’m sorry that I came of so harsh in my first comment I just want to give gamers my second opinion on Mirrors Edge and that is try the Demo maybe you love it or hate it.

Don't get upset with a review

Luckly everyone has thier own opinons and everyone can express them.  I don't want Angela and Tracy to give a 8/10 review of a game if they truely don't like it.  If they LOVE IT they should say.  If they HATE IT they should say that too.  It is up to us to decide if it fits our tastes or not. You have valid points about the game ... and you expressed them.  But don't hate on the girls for not liking the game and saying it.  Actually, Angela tried to give the game more props but in the end it wasn't thier taste.  Accept it.

I did not like the game either, but I had already decided that BEFORE thier review of the game.

see now if thats all that had been said in the first place then that comment would have made a nice addition to the forum - offering an alternative opinion.

Context

I respect that fact that you have a different opinion, as they are welcome and accepted here (in fact, I just told Tracy I disliked the Tomb Raider Game, and although she joked that she thought less of me, it was all in good fun).

I think it was the harsh tone of your response that made me pause.  Yes, they are reviewing a game and should look at the high and low points (which they did).  But part of a review is also an opinion.  I don't always agree with Tracy and Angela's reviews, and they have said they disliked games that I love, and vice versa, but that's why i try the games first, and along with the reviews it helps me decide for myself if I enjoy something.  And the ladies have always told us that to play a game that we love, even if they dislike it.  To each thier own.  The next time they review something and you are so angry that would would write a harsh response, give yourself some cool down time before posting.

left 4 dead

w00t! I just got Left 4 Dead and it is soooo good.  I've been playing it nonstop all freakin day. The only bad thing about it so far is that some of the online players are terrible. The vs games can get pretty nasty. Some of the players seem to get the most joy from being rude jackasses. A majority of the people seem to be nice and friendly though.
