On this episode of From the Cheap Seats, Becca and Michelle cover their favorite teams in EuroLeague Basketball including the Spartak of Russia and Avenida of Spain. Of course, they discuss their favorite WNBA players oversees and the best way to get news and updates from them. (Hint: it involves using 140 characters or less.)

FC Spartak Moscow

Also, the girls talk about the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival movies that are a must see for basketball fans with a special shout out to their favorite sports writer.

This is a vlog by fans for fans, so please leave plenty of comments, questions, rants and raves, or anything else that comes to mind. And check back next weekend for another episode!

Notes

I guess you filmed this early in the week--can't wait to get your take on the new owner of the Atlanta Dream.

I haven't been keeping up with the Euroleague as much as I'd like--I blame the players for not tweeting enough--but I was thrilled to see WNBA.com offer some coverage of the Spartak/Galatasaray game. Hopefully they'll see the Euroleague as a way to keep WNBA fans engaged over the long off-season.

Thanks for the review of Training Rules. I've been excited to see the movie since I first heard about it some time ago. I hope the documentary spurs the NCAA to take a serious look at this issue rather than treating it as an isolated incident because this still goes on and student-athletes need some kind of advocate.

For anyone that's interested, Training Rules has schedule of upcoming screenings on its website.

I know that you can twitter from China somehow because twitter blew up last year following that massive earthquake. Swin could use a proxy host or just use some different twitter interface. My understanding is that twitter is blocked but sites like iTweet and Tweetree still work there.

WNBA.com

I was also excited when I saw that they had coverage of Euroleague. I think it's a great way to keep the fans in the know with the players.

Training Rules does sound like a good movie, might have to go check it out.

There is already talk about who will get drafted first next year in the WNBA, and I think it will be Maya Moore.

Draft

Maya's a junior--the likelihood that she'll leave UConn early, a la Epiphany Prince from Rutgers, is slim. The top picks in 2010 will be Tina Charles (UConn) and Jayne Appel (Stanford).

Which reminds me...the WNBA Draft Lottery is Thursday.

Idk

If that's a good thing or a bad thing if she stays at UConn another year. On the one hand I would love to see her play in the WNBA next year, but on the other hand I would love to see her play a sophomore Brittney Griner (Baylor).

If Brittney Griner stays healthy other schools better watch out.

Shabtai von Kalmanovic shot dead in Russia

With him dead the question is now what happens to the Spartak team he invested in and is it safe for the American players to stay in Russia. Someone put out a hit on this man for some reason, and I wonder if it's in any way connected to his investments. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Can anyone honestly tell me that there is an answer for her in the NCAA this year.
