Embrace the Madness

Great blog guys! March is my favorite month of all! I follow the men’s as well as the women’s tournaments, and haven’t gotten a full night’s sleep since sometime in late February! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Nice call on the SDSU upset Becca! I used to think that coach speak about playing better competition makes your team better was hyperbole; but UConn played SDSU back in November and beat them by 44-points! They’re a completely different team now, and I think that UConn beat down may be the reason why. I also think the UConn beat down factor (by 30+ points) was also instrumental in Oklahoma’s win over Tennessee as well. Oh and the stat SDSU and UConn have in common is probably that they’re both undefeated at home. I watched SDSU put a hurting on a good DePaul team last night, and if I were Stanford (praise the lord I am not), I’d be very afraid. As a UConn fan I’d like to think my team is invincible, but last year’s Final Four disaster remains an open wound for me as well as this team. I think they’re the best team in the country bar none, but I’m hesitant to crown them National Champions before the last buzzer sounds.

As for the brackets—my Final Four: UConn (you’d have to be crazy not to pick them), Stanford (it’s karma UConn should take out the team that ended their season last year), Baylor (Big 12 Champions who beat Oklahoma twice), and Rutgers (as Big East fan I despise them with the heat of a thousand suns, but they’re a bitch to play and Oklahoma’s got them this year). My Championship game is Baylor vs. UConn with UConn winning it all, and cementing itself in history as one of the best women’s college basketball teams of all time! Oh, and I hate to tell you this Michelle, well not really, but I’ve got Iowa State (ISU) beating Tennessee. Mainly because of Tennessee’s inability to defend the 3-point shot, and ISU putting five players on court at once who shoot nothing but threes. Villanova’s a dangerous team in this respect as well—be forewarned Maryland, but I still think Maryland will win though. I share your love of Purdue Becca, but for the men’s team—I’ve got them beating my beloved male Huskies for a spot in the Final Four, and ultimately National Champions! How can you not love a team with a player named after a ceramic figurine (Hummell)?! Best of luck with your brackets, but I hope mine hold true! Looking forward to reading your recaps after the Madness is over. Oh, and Becca, thought you might like to know, UConn just added another player to the WNBA ranks—Husky favorite Mel Thomas will be dropping 3-point bombs for your beloved Seattle Storm this summer.
