From the Cheap Seats: NCAA all the way (Episode 25)

This week was very exciting for Becca, Michelle, and all die-hard women's basketball fans out there, as the NCAA Women's Basketball season started off with a bang. UConn staked their claim at the top of the standings, the Lady Vols lost by one point to Virginia and Notre Dame took down LSU.

Maya Moore of UConn

They also recap of some European women's basketball, specifically as it concerns the Russian teams.

Russian Superleague problems!

Yall didn't mention Sylvia Fowles' DUNK!!!

Big news from Russia - apparently CSKA is going bankrupt and might have to release its big name players before the end of the year. http://www.ballineurope.com/womens-basketball/crisis-reaches-russia-delfino-refuses-to-play/

Also, the Russian Superleague is having financial problems too, and they might have to cancel some games/Superleague season.

UMMC Ekaterinberg and Spartak seem to be doing okay though!

I know!!!

As soon as Michelle left, taking the camera with her, I remembered the dunk! Gah! I watched it over and over and over and then forgot all about it while we were filming. Sorry, friends!

WBB

Glad to see that you've recovered, Michelle! Welcome back to the vlog.

I'm usually slow to engage on the women's college basketball season--I can't get really into it until I go to my first game--but with the crazy wins/losses so far, I'm trying to keep up with the frentic pace. Virginia beats Tennessee, but loses to ODU? Duke blows out two teams by 40+ points, but drops a game to Hartford? Cal's without two of their top players and still beats Rutgers?

I hope this is just early season jitters and that clubs can start playing more consistently. Otherwise, it's going to be a crazy season.

Tennessee

Tennessee is a VERY young tean... They graduated all 5 starters from the Championship game last year. Alex Fuller is a Redshirtted SR and all of the rest of the team are only FR and SO with one redshirted SO and one Redshirted FR... That means that they only 1 member of the team that is an upperclassman! I do not expect a lot from them early in the season (hence the one point loss to VA and the 3 pt win at Chattanooga). But by Tournament time, I expect them to be in it. Other than Aiex Fuller nobody else has more than 1 year of experience on this team and most don't even have that. Angie Bjorklunt played last year and even started several games, has the most playing experience. Vicki Baugh and Sydney Smallbone have a year's experience. Cait McMahan was injuried for a lot of her freshman year and totally missed all of last year. Kelly Cain sat out all of last year but at least has a year of practicing under Pat Summit, The rest of the entire team are all freshmen! But don't count them out during Tournament time...

CSKA shut down!

Yup, it looks like CSKA is officially shut down. I guess the players will have to find new teams. :(

WOW...

Despite early success and 11 seasons, the WNBA has decided to shut down the Houston Comets.

WNBA president Donna Orender said Monday that the team could no longer stay afloat in the league.

The Comets, who have been on a roller coaster ride the last two seasons, will suspend operations early next week. The league will hold a dispersal draft Monday for the players under contract.

The free agents left on the team, Latasha Byears, Mwadi Mabika, Hamchetou Maiga-Ba, Michelle Snow and Tina Thompson will not be eligible for that draft
