"Fringe" gets renewed, "Life" is cancelled, and "L&O: SVU" will return "with or without it stars"After NBC announced the renewal of several shows today (including Parks and Recreation, Weekend Update on primetime, and Heroes), the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Life has been canceled.
That's right: No more Sarah Shahi on a weekly basis.
Hasn't this happened to us before? Chuck is one of the shows still up for renewal, but will not be decided upon until mid-May. NBC is really playing hard-to-get. Another odd announcement from the station is that Law and Order: SVU will definitely return — with or without Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. Rumor has it that the show's stars were waiting on contract renewals and money was an issue.
As a fan of the show, I can't say whether I would be willing to watch without Mariska. The episodes she took for maternity leave were unbearable enough! In possibly the only really fabulous news of the day, Fox has announced that Fringe will definitely get a new season. Anna Torv fans can breathe easy.
Several new NBC shows have been picked up for fall, including Parenthood and Mercy, starring Michelle Trachtenberg. They will be replacing the likes of Lipstick Jungle, Kath & Kim, Knight Rider and Life. Sigh. R.I.P. Life. Submitted by on May 4, 2009 - 4:00pm. |

Damn
Well damn. I'm glad Fringe was renewed but, like I'm sure many here are, I'm disappointed with the cancelation of Life. It's not really about Sarah no longer being on TV, it was just a good show. I also really like Damian Lewis and his character on the show.

I saw previews of Trauma, Mercy, and Parenthood. My guess is that if you want to see Mercy, or Trauma, watch the first weeks, because I doubt they'll be around long. I seriously wonder about NBC's team that is making these decisions.
Parenthood looked promising, but then again, I'm a tad biased as Maura Tierney is in it, and I'd watch her watching paint dry.

If L&O SVU returns without Mariska Hargitay, it may definately return in NBC's line up , but will be cancelled from my DVR line up. I'm am very excited to hear the good news about the return of Fringe.

Life was the only hour-long series I even bothered to watch

Woot! Fringe
Woot! Fringe renewal!
That just made my day :D
SVU
Law and Order:SVU
No Mariska Hargitay = 1 less viewer!
From a lesbian with a serious Mariska crush!!
Make that 2 = double loss rating
From a bisexual who's wants Mariska to be her wife!!
No more Life?
No Mariska
With all the above people...
No Mariska = I certainly won't be watching that show. I like Christopher Meloni, but he's certainly not as vital as Mariska, and if they let him go and got her an interesting female partner, now that could possibly turn out well (or really sucky).
Tricky would of course be if they brough back Stephanie March and let Mariska go. Then I would be torn. Very torn.
DANG it...no more Sarah Shahi...sigh...
I am truly bummed
about "Life" getting cancelled.
Even with the touch creepy homophobia it was a really good show.
Sarah
I'm so SAD that LIFE got
I'm so SAD that LIFE got cancelled. It was one of my top 5 shows, and not only for Sarah, but for Damien Lewis also. I certainly hope that both of them get jobs on shows we can watch for years to come.
I'm happy that Fringe got renewed, because it to is on my top 5 list.

I love SVU, and I wouldn't
I love SVU, and I wouldn't watch it without Mariska or Christopher.

Another reason to ignore NBC
I cant stand NBC. I only watch Medium and SVU.
I guess without Mariska its just me and Patricia Arquette! (I just love her imperfect teeth)
(People) are disturbed not by things that happen, but by their opinion of the things that happen. -epictetus
And Medium is ALSO on the bubble along with Chuck...
aww hail no!
If they cancel Medium I will start a riot, seriously...
Mariska has to come back, just come back Mariska come on. If she doesn't yes that is one more, one less mouth drooling tuesday nights @ 10. I absolutey ditest the episodes without Olivia, I throw a fit just a like a 2 year old lol.
Well, this sucks.
Seriously, though: who the hell is running the programming department at NBC? They'll give Leno a primetime slot while axing Life? How could they even consider bring SVU back without Mariska? I mean, I like Ice-T, but not that much...
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
NBC's never going to get itself back into the ratings race until they invest in a product for multiple years and build some brand loyalty with viewers. That's why Law & Order's been such a solid franchise for them. Until they're willing to cultivate that relationship with viewers, primetime television at NBC will continue to be a rotating door.
Crap.
No weekly Sarah Shahi? No moments of Zen with Damian Lewis? This bites.
My only hope right now is that the good people at USA take pity on me and bring it into their rotation as they did with Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Hmmm
I don't watch Life or Fringe so I don't much care either way. But I do love SVU and am a bit disapointed to hear about their two leads possibly leaving. That being said, I am open to a re-cast. The Law and Order franchise has survived a lot worse and I have faith that Dick Wolfe will do right by the fans. My only complaint is not seeing Mariska every Tuesday.

WHHYYYY
OK
I get it. They cancel the shows (Life), change the storylines, or banish the characters (think Grey's Anatomy) "we" love. Guess "we"'ll just have to keep our opinions to ourselves. Is this their form of oppression towards us? Screw em all! I have better things to do than to let them get their hooks into me again with a show, storyline, character I like then have it taken away. I'm done with all their bullshit. That's why God made DVD's and cable.
Fringe
well...
sad about sarah shahi. but i havent really been interested since the l word. but im really excited about parks and recreations coming back!!! man, poehler is tha shizz!! and rashida jones is the icing on that comical cake. aka i think shes hot. incase you didnt catch that.

I can now breath
Fringe has become my number one show to watch. I am entranced by Anna Torv. Another gifted Geelong actress (as is Portia - Is Better off Ted being renewed?).
Anna shares that the same ethereal Aussie quality about her that Kate Blanchett has. Is there something in the water around Melbourne?
Compassion. A great gift. Never lose it.
Hmm...
Although the other 2 L&O series have been able to withstand not one but several cast changes I'm not so sure SVU would. I watch all three but SVU is my favorite. And this last ADA was a joke. No offense to Michaela McManus but she just doesn't fit. But Mariska...watching episodes she's not in was one thing because you knew she would be in the next one. But knowing she's not coming back, I don't know.
Mariska
I can only hope that threatening to bring back SVU w/t Mariska and Meloni is just NBC's way of negotiating their new contracts. Didn't they actually acknowledge before that Mariska's maternity leave and the episodes she was missing from had significantly less viewers than usual? They should know she is invaluable to the show.
I, for one, will not watch any episodes without Mariska, not even if they brought back March. I really only like her together with Mariska, so one less viewer here.

I'm really happy that Fringe got renewed but damnit! what am i gonna do without my Sarah Shahi fix?
Damnit
I really liked Life. I mean, Sarah Shahi got me watching the show, but Damian Lewis and his character kept me watching - I hope he gets a new gig soon (as well as Sarah, of course!)
I will definitely NOT watch SVU without Mariska Hargitay.
Things that make you go GRRR...
This is crazy....Guiding Light gets cancelled off CBS daytime, and now I hear this crap? This just isn't a good year. Bad enough so many of us are losing our jobs...now we are losing the shows we have put some time into. Such is the nature of TV, but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow.
NBC is gonna make me puke if they are gonna play a game with Mariska n Chris. They are SVU. Simple as that.
OOOH...Im all moody today!!! WooHoo! sorry gang...just not the news I needed to hear.
Much love to the SVU, Life & GL faithful...

WTF Life's getting canceled??!!
That was the best show I've been watching. The writing on that show was awesome, and c'mon who wasn't interested in finding out who set Crewes up?
Sure, Sarah Shahi got me watching the show but the show was just so much fun to watch I got hooked. Give me back my Life!!!
C'mon they're renewing Heroes? I thought most people jumped ship on that show back in season 2?
Why? Life was such a good
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
no reason to watch anymore
guess i won't be watching SVU anymore :(
SVU
another fan devastated by the lost of life
its sad to see a good show like life get the axed. Like many others sarah got me watching but the show itself and its writing and characters was what kept me watching. I can't believe that NBC would let this show go. I hope that other networks are willing to pick the show up. They have to continue this show for the sake of the crews/reese duo and just its storyline it can't end like that..
on twitter, theres a campaign going around to save the show. #bringbacklife. So far it has a lot of fans tweeting about their love for the show and rants about its cancellation. Also, USA network has been hearing the fans on twitter about picking up the show.
augh
NBC is making me mental.
Isn't a deadline.. yanno.. a dead line? How can they just say "Oh, well.. i know we've reached the deadline, but since we haven't decided yet, we're just gonna have to get back to you about the whole 'Chuck' thing."
?!?!
I know they've got some hard choices to make, but the finale is over, the numbers are in,..quit jerking around the fanbase. For serious.
Join the 'bring back life' campaign!

YEAH-FRINGE!!!!!!!
I am a huge Anna fan (obviously), and am registered on the Fringe website, but I heard it here first! THANK YOU! I know now that I will get my Anna fix for at least another season. You guys are awesome!
hip hip
Finge!
I'm really happy that Fringe got renewed!
But no Mariksa on Law and Order?? I will definitely not be watching. I really hope she returns...
Nooooo!!
I thought Life was a pretty good show. Now I'm gonna have to watch TLW season 3 over and over just to see Sarah Shahi.
