Evan Rachel Wood plays a lesbian, yet againHollywood thinks Evan Rachel Wood plays a great lesbian. I can't disagree, I have enjoyed all of her roles, especially the ones in which she ends up kissing other girls. As a preteen, she was playing gay on the TV show Once and Again, where she fell for her BFF, played by Mischa Barton.
In the film Thirteen, she wasn't a lesbian, but she did share a few French kisses with her best friend, Evie (Nikki Reed). The two had a very close friendship, as you can see.
Now Wood is appearing alongside Mickey Rourke in the Darren Aronofsky film The Wrestler, where she plays a retired professional wrestler's estranged lesbian daughter, Stephanie.
In a recent interview, Wood told the UK's Times that her mom was really into her becoming a lesbian icon. (Well, not exactly.) "My mom was obsessed with me being the next Jodie Foster," Wood said. "She wanted me to go to the schools that Foster went to and learn French." Last year, the actress told YRB magazine she enjoyed kissing girls, but didn't consider herself gay. "I'm not a lesbian, but I don't think it's weird or gross or anything," she said. "I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm bisexual — I don't sleep with women. But I definitely appreciate women and there have been times where I have been attracted to a woman." Evan is only 21, so there's still plenty of time for her to want to act on that attraction. Also, her recent break-up with Marilyn Manson might give her more opportunity to figure out why Hollywood thinks she makes a great gay.
The Wrestler opens in theaters in January. Will you be seeing it? Submitted by on December 1, 2008 - 12:00pm. |

WHAT???
Yep
I'm not quite sure where you've been! It has pretty much been all over, especially when they first got together. He's old enough to be her father easily, and she morphed into the younger/spitting image of his ex - Dita Von Tess while with him.
Frankly, after Manson, I'm sure anything will feel quite normal...lol. It shall not be long until she joins our ranks! Mwahahahaha!
double take! I completely agree on the Dita von Tess thing!
Yep

don't forget Pretty Persuasion! Again, she wasnt really gay but she did go down on a girl in the film :)
shes awesome
Pretty Persuasian
okay. i LOVE evan rachel
okay. i LOVE evan rachel wood. loved her in once and again, pretty persuasion and ofcourse THIRTEEN :D
but omg. how much does she look like dita in the last pic? im glad shes split with manson hehe.
looking forward to this..for a second i though it said she was playing a retired wrestler..i was like THEY HAD TO MAKE THE LESBIAN A WRESTLER. but nay just me being blind.
looks good!
I totally confused her in
I totally confused her in this photo. I really thought it was Dita Von Teese, so strange... After she dated Marilyn Manson she kind of started being like Dita, with the hair, clothes and attitude.
But who cares anymore? They broke up and now she'll do a lesbian again. (:
... And Again
She also got busy with Jane Krakowsi's character in Pretty Persuasion. Hey, who's counting?
The Wrestler has gotten some great reviews, but Evan Rachel Wood's role is definitely just supporting. Expect good, gritty performances, not a developed lesbian love story.
Best. Blog. Title. Ever.
*sigh* Evan definitely stole my heart as Jessie Samler all those years ago. I loved Once and Again. The women on that show were all wonderful in their own dysfunctional ways. Suddenly I'm missing Sisters too. Talk about wonderful dysfunctional women. I digress.
I'm looking forward to ERW's performance in this film. I am so in love with Across the Universe. An entire movie of Evan singing? Yes, please. Its so befitting that her character was the one to point out the unrequited love of Prudence.
Can't say I'm sad the Marilyn Manson relationship is over. I hadn't overheard that bit of hollywood gossip. I can't believe she is still only 21. Yikes she's a baby. A talented, mature, well rounded baby but stil...
Huh?
I really had to look twice at that last picture. Dang, she looks so freakin' much like Dita von Teese! Where's my sweet Jessie Sammler gone to?!? You sure you didn't accidentally switch up their photo's?
Once and Again was sooo good and I knew the moment I saw Jessie sitting on her shrink's couch talking about her anorexia that she was a lez. I so called that even before the whole Katie storyline haha :D!
Anyway, I'll also be looking forward to this movie. Marilyn Manson isn't so much a bad guy IMO (I think it'd be fun to hang out with him yo), it was just so wrong for her to be dating him (and subsequently, kinda put me off of anything ERW did careerwise...)! But I guess love cannot be judged and it's over between them anyway *evil laugh*.
Am also hoping she does more singing. Girl has a voice like an angel... sigh.

Dita Von Teese look-a-like?
Ditto!!
precisely
became her spitting image. I don't even want to imagine the poor dears sex life with that man...ack! lol, I sound like an old woman (i.e. poor dear)

A new Darren Aronofsky move?
I didn't know she broke up
I didn't know she broke up with Marilyn Manson, and I feel almost relieved for her lol
I absolutely love her since Once & Again (and way before the lesbian content), she was very touching, but dear God in that last picture she looks so much like Dita that it's creepy. Can't wait to see the film though!
Asbury Park, NJ
Oh snap, this movie just got even more gay, as it looks like parts (specifically that boardwalk, above) were filmed in Asbury Park, NJ...New Jersey's gay seashore resort :-)
oh evan.
*as mother*
"Youtakethatmakeupoffthisinstant!"
Where'd Lucy go, D:?
Inkblots
Finally!
But like everyone else has said I'm happy it's over with Marilyn, I like him, but just not him and her together. Weird feeling..
ANYWAY..
Evan's back!!! -dances-
Yeap, it's freaky how much
Yeap, it's freaky how much she resembles Dita Von Teese nowadays. And the thing is, she was way prettier before, in her Thirteen days...
Well... I can't wait to watch The Wrestler. Aronofski is a genius!
Evan will be gay... in dreamland
evan <3
I, too, am on a mission to
weee!
Glad to see some other Evan fans on the site. She's my favourite actor by far and the only person who's movies I actively seek out no matter whether they hold interest or not besides her. If she's in it, you always know it's a gutsy role and it's been really interesting to watch her career evolve since she was about 12 (which is when I got on board...wow....9 or 10 years ago?). I've got high hopes for this film.
I just remembered that I bought King of California when I was in Cali and never got around to watching it! Agh. I wonder where that is....
Hooray! Evan's Playing Gay!!! Again!!
Sure why not?
I'll see it. Rachel Wood is a fantastic actress. I've seen clips of once and again somewhere on this site...She made out with Niiki Reed??? As in, the Nikki Reed who plays Rosalie Hale in Twlight? -Goes off to investigate-
Whatever..
she gonna be playing a gay role again!
love it! hahaha!
she's really pretty.. and somehow im happy she broke up with marilyn manson (evil smile)...
XD
Where's the review?
Why hasn't there been coverage beyond this on AE? I'm surprised, considering I assume some of the writers live in LA and The Wrestler is getting such huge buzz, plus I know Sarah was a Once and Again fan, so why hasn't there been a review? I'd really like to know how much Evan's character is in the movie and whether her lesbianism is actually an important details. Where's the news, ladies?
Oh well, I'm going to see it when it comes out here (in Edmonton, AB) next week anyway. I just want to know what to expect so my expectations aren't too high for the Evan aspects. The trailer looks incredibly good, even though it wouldn't normally be my kind of movie.
Pretty Persuasion
don't mean to be a hater
But thank goodness she and MM broke it off. That dood's cool, but please... ugh.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
