Eminem asks Lindsay and Portia to ditch women for himEminem may have performed a duet with Elton John at the Grammys, but he's no ally to the gay and lesbian community. As someone who has used the word "fag," as well as several other homophobic slurs in his music, it's no surprise that his latest single, "We Made You," takes stabs at some high-profile lesbians. The song and accompanying video specifically mention Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, with the lyrics:
He does not mean to lesbian offend / Lindsay, please come back to seeing men. Samantha's a 2, you're practically a 10. I know you want me girl, in fact I see you grin like a mean girl.
And on Portia de Rossi and Ellen:
The enforcer / Look at there are more women to torture / Walk up to the cutest girl and charleyhorse her / Sorry Portia, but what's Ellen Degeneres have that I don't?
Does he really want us to answer that? As someone who has always utilized pop culture and celebrity bashing to get attention, it's not a surprise that he's using celesbians in his song about women who aren't interested in him. In an interview with MTV News, he talks about why he decided to "celebrity bash" in the song, and how he hopes it will get women to like him: Something tells me this isn't going to work out like he's hoping. You can watch the whole video below, where he also mocks Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson and Star Trek. If this is Eminem's triumphant return to hip-hop, I personally think he's still living in the past. His novelty act might have been interesting a few years back, but I'm not buying into his cheap attempts at offending his peers anymore — lesbians or otherwise. Are you? something tells me this
something tells me this song and video isn't what it seems to be on the surface. he has a habit of doing that. personally i love eminem and will always be a fan.
you know, pink made a song about making fun of other women.....not too many people had many gripes about that. (i did though...i thought it was mean spirited and sending a clouded message to young girls. being 'girly' isn't a bad thing)
---------------------------------------------
~I am bisexual. You are confused.~
I'm on the fence about the
I'm on the fence about the song, but in response to P!nk, what she condemned was mindlessness and that there is more to being a woman than being superficial.
I am certainly a fan of girly girls, I just prefer there to be more to them than what's portrayed by the media.
You may be onto something
The impression I got from the video (and the song, but the video really made the point), is that he's saying all this BS and running this (pretty pathetic) game at these girls who he thinks are hot, but KNOWS he'll never get. It's like he knows he doesn't have a chance, so he's using it to spit nonsense. Is it kosher? Not at all. Is it what he does to pretty much everyone-lesbians and non-lesbians alike? Definitely.
I've always been a huge fan of Enimen and found amusement in his twisted sense of humor. Having said that, it's not that I don't like this song because he goes after people I'm a fan of (he's done that before, they just weren't gay ladies); I don't like it because it's not as good as his other stuff. The beat's okay, but his style and lyrics aren't up to his usual potential. If you're gonna have that kind of humor, you have to at least back it up by being really freaking good at rapping. This kinda falls flat. Sorry Slim, this track will not win you any girls :(

I agree with everything you
ditto!
Eminem was a big part of my adolescence. i kinda liked the song though :p
Agreed
Eminem usually has a lot more going on deep down in there. He has never been one to merely scratch the surface.
But besides that, I agree with a lot of other people. I'm more offended that the song just isn't very good. The lesbian comments aren't really a big deal. I don't think his humor is meant to be taken so seriously. I enjoyed the first minute or so, and then I was just over it. If this really is the comeback song, than I'm not really interested to hear the rest of the album.
Sorry, Slim
LOL THATS JUST EM
if anyone is familiar with hip hop music or em for that matter than you would know he is very talented lyrically and always puts out funny songs he bashs everyone and no one cared when he was bashing straight people and i doubt he needs to make a stunt to sell albums his fan base will be there regardless
and samantha is a 2 and lindsey is a 10

Agreed agreed agreed.
I'm obsessed with her. To be quite honest, though, I just want to raid the footwear closets of both of them (Lindsay and Sam). I don't know how they do it.
Up until the punching, it was a real nice party...
Another Agreement.
I have to completely agree with you.
I LOVE Ronson.
What can you expect from a
What can you expect from a person who raps about killing his ex-wife? As for Lindsay and Portia? Sorry, Em, wishful thinking, keep reaching for the stars Slim shady.
sucks
I could care less who he makes fun of. Freedom of speech and all that. What offends me more is that the song simply sucks and the video concept has been done to death. I've never been a fan and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

Didn't Wanda Sykes call him out on looking like a butch lesbian?
Yes
In her book and it was so funny too.

Lesbians are the new Black?
ummmmm.....
idiom
ooh innerdebate. lol
I think she meant it as black, as in negro. Which is why she capitalized it, 'Black', the race, not 'black' the color. Because lesbians are 'the new big thing that everyone wants to be but not really'. I understand her sentiment. I'm not offended. (This coming from a resident black person)

teenager
He's a man in his mid 30's now but everything about him still screams "teenager".
Will he ever grow up?
+++libraries gave us power+++
lmao
Oh Eminem, you stay classy, don't ever change baby!
and, nothing to do with the content, but has his rapping gotten worse? I mean, I may not have like 97 Bonnie and Clyde, but I recognize the skill. His rapping kinda sucks in this song.

wow, is it just me
or is he trying to do what he did 10 years ago?
except this time, something about the whole thing is lame and cheesy. its like he's a wannabe of himself.
sad comeback, but...
yeah that was a pretty lame comeback. i expected something more innovative, musically. he's always going to be politically incorrect and i'm actually okay with that. freedom of expression is a double edged sword. for slim, it wasn't THAT bad. yeah it was silly, immature, and maybe he shouldn't have focused on demeaning women. BUT if he didn't act that way, he wouldn't be slim shady. he's usually much worse!
lesbians are in the media right now--hot topic. he's just trying to use that to get attention like everyone else. aside from the less than impressive performance, i do have to say, i laughed at the sarah palin scene.
I did, too. I'm actually
I did, too. I'm actually kinda happy he went there; it wouldn't feel right if he left that stone unturned.
I also appreciate the Star Trek references with the Vulcan death grip. Nerd visability, woo!
"No problem is insoluble, given a big enough plastic bag."
Exactly
"lesbians are in the media right now--hot topic."
I do not take offense to what he said. That's his shtick, that's what he does. He takes hot topics and celebrities who are in the public eye and he makes fun. And being as how lesbians are a pretty hot topic right now, he HAD to take a jab at Lindsay and Sam. Although I think it may have been funnier if he made fun of Katy Perry instead of Ellen and Portia. But Eminem has and always will be offensive.
As far as it being a weak performance, I agree. But his first hits are always weak. He always comes out with a funny, yet non-meaningful single first to get attention, then he comes in with the real stuff.
Ie: My Name Is, The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, My Band, Ass Like That... They all were mediocre songs used to get attention. I for one am excited to see what he has in store for this next album.
The only thing offensive about this song
...is that it's so bad.
This is the come back song? *shakes head*

Who doesn't have a blog these days?
eurOut for the latest recaps of your favourite European lesbian storylinesI love eminem
and like others have pointed out he's very tounge in cheek and is just using what he's given, when michael jackson was in the media spotlight he poked fun at him, he spoke about 9/11 in a few songs, he's laid his relationships with his mother and family bare. now it's lesbians later it will be something else...
I kinda think some people are just realy touchy...which is kinda sad, first Katy Perry now Eminem...

Seriously, Eminem.... Of all the things you could've come back with....
You didn't even take your clothes of, yet you've never looked more naked.
Oh Logo Logo
People don't seem to see
People don't seem to see the humor in this, which is sad. I like Eminem, I will always like him.
I haven't heard the song yet, though. I hope it's not as bad as everyone says it is...
maybe Eminem used to be
maybe Eminem used to be relevent...but I'm just bored now
"When you stop talking, you start communicating." - Joss Whedon
Is it just me...
Or is Eminems eyelashes been curled!? There looking rather fanish and volumized...
lame all around
but it was really just him saying how these women, which includes lindsay and portia, should want him.
i thought he said nastier things about kardashian and palin from the 30 seconds that i watched.
and does he not realize how STUPID and lame he looks?
He kind of stole the 'Stupid
no he didn't
He was zeroing in and making money off the back of other people LONG before she did "stupid girls"
that is a ridiculous statement! but maybe it's just because I've always loved Eminem and always will, and find it sad that people don't get his sense of humour.
and like i said earlier I think it's a shame that some people are so hyper sensitive, as soon as someone mentions the word gay or kesbian peoplestarting questioning it.

i thought it was kind of funny. esp the part with amy winehouse and ronson/lohan. i had been thinking all that stuff anyway but he just said it out loud.
but i don't think he was as creative as usual.

This guy is obnoxious...
"For, Heaven knows why, just as we have lost faith in human intercourse some random collection of barns and trees or a haystack and a wagon presents us with so perfect a symbol of what is unattainable that we begin the search again."
Very Obnoxious
He reminds me of that one kid in class that always sat in the back of the classroom disrupting the class with his cute little anodes frustrating the teacher and some of the students.
He was named the best rapper alive in some hip-hop magazine, shocked that he surpassed the rappers of the eariler generation, if this is was is being called "the greatest", then someone should crown Avril Lavinge as the greatest female rock artist alive.
...
hahahahaha....Avril. Yeah, above Cristina Scabbia and Otep...for sure.
-.-
I know exactly the kid you're talking about... didn't he single-handedly come up with the recipe for spit wads and act like every assinine or crude joke he told was comic genius, laughing harder at himself than anyone else laughed at him?
Come to think of it, I was related to that kid. =/
Daddy issues.
Haha.

same ol same ol
why
is he still making music? Rapping = terrible. Beats = terrible. What else is there about rap music besides those two?

about those rumors that sam cheated...
like this one: http://www.mtv.co.uk/artists/lindsay-lohan/news/110925-lindsay-lohan-sam-ronson-split
maybe sam cheated with eminem? just putting it out there =)
im not going to worry too much about what eminem's been rapping about. he's always tongue-in-cheek and pushing the limits, and often, it works really well. plus, im a sucker for his songs about his daughter. i dont think anyone's going to take this song too seriously, esp when it's pretty clear ellen > marshal mathers any day of the week.

idiot
What does Ellen have that you don't, Em? She is a clever, warm, high-spirited woman who is genuinely funny without feeling the need to trash people and is too happy to trash people anyway, unlike you Em, a miserable, homophobic moron.I guess he's just jealous that Ellen + Portia have a happy, loving marriage and he has nothing to be happy about.
How can he get away with this? Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about this homophobia? We need to put a stop to this. I don't want this to spawn copycat songs/videos in the future.
I too
am getting a little disparing with the hyper-sensitivity of a lot of gay people.
"How can he get away with this? Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about this homophobia? We need to put a stop to this. I don't want this to spawn copycat songs/videos in the future."
What? He can get away with it because IT'S NOT HOMOPHOBIC. So what's he said? That he thinks Lindsay should be with him because she's way better than Sam, and he doesn't see what Ellen has that he doesn't? Okay. Now let's close our eyes and imagine all of these characters in a heterosexual context. Sam and Ellen are men...now do you see anything wrong with those statements? No. The gender and sexuality parts of the song are barely relevent, the main focus is on the fact that Eminem is an arrogant, egotistical player...something which is practically mandatory in the hip-hop and rap world. I haven't heard the song, but I'm slightly gutted to hear that his come back isn't the best. I personally think at his height, Eminem was incredible. 8 Mile, Lose Yourself etc. all that stuff was brilliant. I hope he goes back to the drawing board and pulls out something more testimonial to his talent again.
Seriously now, you need to get a grip and understand that this is just humour. Mocking people and dropping names with the intention to inflame, sensationalise or just plain offend is a technique that's used in comedy the world over, every day. And there's nothing wrong with that.
I don't know about anyone else, but I sometimes get the impression from both bloggers and readers of this site that homophobia is everywhere, and everything should be focusing on visibility and making everything PC. It's slightly obnoxious tbh.
http://www.myspace.com/good_souls
eminem
whats obnoxious is not seeing heterosexism and sexisim when it's smacking you right in the face. why should we imagine sam and ellen in a heterosexual context? they're not men and they're not in heterosexual relationships. and you don't see him specifically challenging any straight relationships in his song, the way he explicitly challenges the validity of both lesbian relationships. the idea that any woman a man is interested in, no matter her situation, should respond positively to a man's attentions is antiquated sexism and shouldn't be tolerated even if it's attempting to be used to comedic effect. and why are feminine women constantly being depicted in the mainstream media as less invested in lesbian relationships? as a femme, i'm personally tired of my sexuality constantly being challenged because i apparently don't fit the stereotype of the "typical" lesbian.
i can see the sexism in
i can see the sexism in this, but tbh it really really doesn't offend me because it's from a source that i can't take seriously. he's a hip hop artist, he's bound to display some sexist views even if just in jest. it comes with the territory.

different story, uh same day??
let's all stop for a moment and realize that every single one of you complaining about how awful eminem is as a person is just giving him exactly what this song is designed to do....
go back to all the old albums, try to remember which song was the first single and with most of them they're the 'joke' songs, the ones really designed to inflame and get people talking about him...and guess what he does it better than any other rapper out there....not saying he's the best rapper, just a great self promoter...
that said, much of hip-hop has always had an air of homophobia to it, this is no different, i just think em is smarter than we all give him credit for....
and one way or the other, i'll have the album the day it drops....
This. I can't believe people
Why do people take his
Why do people take his stuff seriously? It's why he keeps making it because people just don't get humor or at least his twisted sense of it.
I've been a fan of his for a loooong time and will continue to be even if his new stuff isn't up to par.
Also like someone above said I think it's more about the women he knows he'll never be able to get not that he really wants them. Even though he said that stuff in an interview I think it wasn't to be taken seriously.
ETA: I find it funny that so many people are bashing this song but said nothing about Pink's song Stupid Girls? Is it more socially acceptable to make fun of eating disorders and drug addiction which btw in my opinion he makes fun of EVERYONE equally.
