Amy Poehler returns to "SNL" post-pregnancyOnly weeks after having her first baby, Amy Poehler returned to the set of Saturday Night Live this past weekend to play Hillary Clinton. With the recent buzz of Senator Clinton joining Barack Obama's cabinet as Secretary of State, it was only a matter of time before Lorne Michaels was begging Poehler to make an appearance. Here's the clip: She's so right on, which begs the question, how long can she actually guest on the show, now that she's a new mom and going to be going into production on her own sitcom in the near future? Hillary Clinton is likely going to be sticking around for the next four years, so who else could possibly play her on the live variety show that very often skews political in their sketches? You can't just slap that blonde helmet wig on anyone, you know. Point: Amy Poehler. Submitted by on December 8, 2008 - 4:00pm. |

To be honest....
Timing.
True. Although I practically worship Amy, I'll admit that I've seen several others do an all around HRC better over the years. Amy still does have a couple characteristics down better that most. Anyway, my response to you would be simply: better material. From the primaries on, there was just so much Hillary. They had an abundance of material that was ripe for satire. The writers really stepped up and captured (in that old SNL way) the spirit of her campaign. Sure, there was some good stuff with the whole Lewinsky scandal, but Hillary was really only in the peripheral for that one. Her initial Senate campaign was also notable, but not national.
This is Hillary Clinton front and center and Amy just happened to be playing her during her public peak (at least, thus far). I think that really bonds audience with performer.
Not to mention the fact that she actually played Hillary while standing next to Hillary. That’s something people remember.
Great writing
As Emily said, Amy has had great material while playing Hillary. I love what the writers are letting "Hillary" say through Amy. You just know that Hillary and Bill say and think these things - who wouldn't? I love it in this skit when she tells Palin to "mom it up, baby."

i agree but
Amy Poehler is amazing!
:[
although she is still in the regular cast at the intro, i read this will be a one time cameo after her pregnancy.
i'm sad mostly for weekend update. i get so excited when they say her name and this week she was actually there!
thank god for kristin wiig, at least..
I don't think I've been more
Like the south, vampires,
Like the south, vampires, and Britney Spears we will rise again!
Ahahaha. Heck yes, point: Amy Poehler. That was a great skit.
Kristen Wiig? She's really
SNL
I love both Tina and Amy--not only have their political sketches proven their abilities as actresses, but the writing seems to elevate to a higher standard (thanks to their assistance, no doubt).
That said, SNL has to move beyond Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Since Hillary Clinton's not going away and Amy Poehler is, maybe they ought to let one of the other cast members take a shot at the impersonation (and co-anchoring Weekend Update). Is it going to suck initially? Probably so, but they've gotta have something in the post-Tina and post-Amy SNL.
SNL has always
I wish she'd stay.
She's my favorite part of SNL, and as awesome as Kristin with her singing and new ways to deliver mail is, it's not as fun watching knowing Amy's not in anything or in the weekend update :[
And I find her Hillary hilarious, but since I'm only starting to watch seasons 31 and older now I don't really have anything to compare it to...
:(
im not able to view the video because it says that this clip is not available in my location. :( i live in india. is it internationally protected or something? y i can't i view it?
Someone was telling me she
I think she might be able to
I think she might be able to pull it off. But anyone who does it will inevitably be compared to Amy's version. Kind of a no-win situation there.

Pregnancy Care
That's what I'm talking about!
HAHAHA!
I'm a pregnancy coach so first I get to hear women moan and complain about how hard it is to get pregnant, and then they moan and complain about being pregnant, and then they moan and complain about how hard it is after the pregnancy is over (I say this all with love of course :) ). I think I need to give Amy a call to teach a seminar on "positive attitude" :D
Love it!
