Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore get dangerously close in "Chloe"Amanda Seyfried might be the talk of the town lately based on her same-sex smooch with Megan Fox in Jennifer's Body (which opens Friday), but the young actress has so much more going on with her career that's worth knowing about. This week she was pulling double duty at the Toronto International Film Festival, repping for both Jennifer's Body and her new film Chloe co-starring Julianne Moore.
In a nutshell, Chloe is a remake of the French film, Nathalie, in which Seyfried plays a prostitute (Chloe) that Moore hires to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson) to see if he is a cheater. Based on reviews from TIFF, it appears that the two women share more than a man.
Vanity Fair writes, "Toronto audiences gripped their elbow rests as Seyfried upped the sapphic ante in Chloe, engaging in a sultry hotel-room romp with Julianne Moore." A sultry hotel-room romp sounds a little more exciting to me than the kiss I've seen from Jennifer's Body. Also, Seyfried getting the chance to play a much meatier part than a nerdy best friend — alongside a seasoned actress like Julianne Moore, no less — is very intriguing. You can watch a few clips of the film interspersed with commentary from director Atom Egoyan: Julianne Moore is a seasoned lesbian, at least on film. Not only did she play a repressed homo homemaker in The Hours, but she's also going to be playing Annette Benning's partner in the upcoming film The Kids Are Alright as well as a lesbian novelist in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. It makes me even more a fan of hers, considering she seems to be a big fan of ours. I can't wait for Chloe to hit theaters — can you? Submitted by on September 16, 2009 - 11:00am. |

I'm intrigued
I love the director Atom Egoyan as well as Julianne Moore. And I always thought Seyfried was really good, back from her days as Joni on "All My Children." (She was on during one of Eden Riegel's runs and shared some scenes with her but not many.) I'd like to see it, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see it on DVD sometime next year, as I'm currently living in Shanghai and there's not much chance of it playing here!
So intriguing...
enough to watch it.
nathalie is one of my fav
it's so neat living in this
Natalie...
Interesting
I have watched and own a copy of the original French film Nathalie and find it to be quite enjoyable... so it will be interesting to see how this version plays out. I am certainly intrigued by the fact that the film stars Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore, figuring that it has at least that going for it and I have always found Atom Egoyan films to be interesting (especially Exotica with Mia Kirshner), so with him at the helm I am certainly putting this movie on my must see list.
The French film stars the exquisite Fanny Ardant (who shared a sapphic smooch with Catherine Deneuve in 8 Women) and Emmanuelle Beart.
I do enjoy the inclusion of Liam Neeson (an actor that I've always been quite fond of), especially as the French film starred Gerard Depardieu (whom I must admit I don't find nearly as enjoyable as Liam).

My boy Atom
I love Atom Egoyan's work. And Julianne Moore is always good, even if the film isn't. I put Chloe into my Netflix queue.
I really only remember Amanda Seyfried from Veronica Mars.
Nathalie was pretty good. Usually American remakes of foreign films make me blow tiger chunks, but I trust my boy Atom.
perhaps tmi
but here is a link with an interview with seyfried, where she discusses tounge etiquette with costars of other generations:

to wit: "While the tongue apparently wasn't an issue with Fox, Seyfried said she has discussed the issue with both Moore and Jeanne Tripplehorn, her co-star on the HBO show "Big Love," who are both in their 40s."

I heard bad things about Chloe
I thought Natalie was a great movie, so why the remake unless egoyan wanted to add a new angle.... and it seems like he did! From the press online that I've read, he's riffed off the movie but definitely for the worse!
My gf saw Chloe in Toronto the other night and said it felt like another movie that screws with women's relationships with one another and with lesbian storylines, making it messed up in unrealistic ways.
She said it was like a heterosexual male fantasy and was totally put off by it. While her heterosexual male colleague were enthusiastic (gross).
Like most of us my gf thinks Julian Moore is usually great about her choices of roles, and Moore's certainly shown love to the gay community by being in various Todd Haynes movies, the hours, and her upcoming films... But usually I agree with my gf so I'm totally cynical. I was afraid it might give me that Notes on a Scandal messed up hetero male fantacy nausea, and I still am....
Thanks for posting this
It makes me want to read some real reviews before I decide whether to see it. I have to say that the script as well as the acting would have to be pretty excellent to make me buy "woman-sleeps-with-prostitute-she-hired-to-seduce-her-husband." It seems all too likely that it would wind up another one of those womansex = all about their feelings for the menz! flicks.
I love Julianne Moore, but I find it painful to watch her in bad movies. I'm still trying to burn The Forgotten out of my brain....even Alfre Woodard couldn't save that one.
Looks intense...
I like intense :)
Oh, trust me, these kinda of
Oh, trust me, these kinda of fantasies aren't just for straight guys.
I'm so for this film, and I'll plan on catching the others mentioned as well.
I'll watch anything
by Atom Egoyan...
Yes, I know very out of character for someone who normally is "one gender minded". But then again: interesting men are just the proof I am gay - but that's another story...
