Alanis Morissette to play doctor on "Weeds"

Alanis Morissette has made several cameos in well-known television shows and films, including a turn as a Spin the Bottle-playing bisexual woman on Sex and the City, and God in Kevin Smith's Dogma.

Yeah, she's kind of hard to typecast.

EW.com is reporting today that the Canadian singer has signed on for seven episodes of the fifth season of Weeds, where she'll play an obstetrician to the knocked up Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker).

As Dr. Audra Kitson, EW says that there will be some "tasteful nudity" involved, but also that this does not mean Nancy and Audra get any more than doctor-patient privelege with one another. The website writes that "all Morissette's character really wants is Justin Kirk's Andy."

It had so much potential!

And it still does. This season of Weeds will also see Nancy's sister showing up, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh. Not too much is known about her character yet, so we can still hold out hope that she is Sapphicly inclined like her character in Synecdoche, New York — and maybe she's into older women, like Cecilia.

    Alanis Morissette is one of the first singers I thought were amazing.

    Sounds promising. Her characters were fun in Dogma and Sex and the City.

    The new season starts on June 8th. Their new show is with Edie Falco called Nurse Jackie and it starts the same night. I'm so excited!

    I'm excited about Alanis being on the show. She is amazing.

    I've watched the show since season 1 and I still love it... Great writing and Mary Louise Parker make it a total must-see.

    I love Justin Kirk as well. He has been in several gay/lesbian movies/series. I thought Puccini for Beginners was cute and likeable and he was fantastic as a gay man in Angels in America.

     

    Can't wait for season five to start. :)

    I love Alanis Morissette, and I'm super excited to watch her this season! Hopefully this character will be a little more likeable than the one on Nip/Tuck. I just couldn't get into that character even though she was a lesbian....

    i recently saw her in the hilarious Starz original series Head Case.  She was super funny and looking totally foxy.  if you don't have Starz you can catch Head Case and another very funny Starz show called Party Down (starring Jane Lynch and Lizzy Caplan, speaking of foxy) on Netflix Instant Viewing.  I highly recommend both shows.

    Yeah! I like Head Case - it has it's funny moments for sure. But Party Down is SO GOOD! Jane Lynch is SO FUNNY! It is by far one of her funniest roles. And yes Lizzy Caplan is crazy hot in the show too. Lesbians watch PARTY DOWN! LOL!

    Not that I object to Alanis being on Weeds, but the cliffhanger of the season was if Nancy was really pregnant or not.

    The idiots at Showtime really don't know how to keep a secret. 

    I'm just hoping now that Alanis' character is in cohoots with Nancy in some sort of plan in faking the pregnancy because announcing that she is playing Nancy's obstetrician just blew it all out of the water.

    There was no cliff hanger. You knew she was pregnant. It's why the governor didn't kill her. Watch the finale again you'll see = )

    Weeds is awesome already, Mary-Louise Parker gets better and better in every episode. Now there adding Alanis, I am very excited!

    Is it just me or does Alanis get more beautiful every year?

    I haven't seen much of Weeds, and what I have seen I love.  I don't have time to watch TV anymore...well the past 3 years or so.  But it's awesome she'll be on it, eventually I catch up via DVD.
