Victoria Hill: wondering about Wonder Woman

If you’re like me, hearing “South Pacific” and “Wonder Woman” in the same sentence leads to one glorious thought.

As much as we’d love to see Lucy Lawless as the Amazon princess, makers of the Justice League of America film are looking for someone younger — in the 22–32 range. But if reports from Movie Hole are true, the new Diana Prince/Wonder Woman just might have a Xena connection after all. Australian actress Victoria Hill, who played Waltraute in two Xena episodes, has tested for the role.

Don’t remember Hill as Waltraute? Frankly, neither do I, but for a very good reason. Waltraute appeared in “The Ring” and “Return of the Valkyrie,” two episodes from the Beowulf storyline. You know the one — Gabrielle was in an induced sleep, surrounded by a ring of fire that could only be crossed by her soul mate, who would awaken her with a kiss. That kiss. I do have a vague memory of someone attacking Xena right before she went through the flame — that, as it happens, was Waltraute. And yes, she fell in to the burning ring of fire.

Daydreams of Xena and Gabby are hard to leave, I know, but back to Victoria Hill. The 28-year-old is a popular stage, film and television actress in Australia. She stars in the newly released December Boys with Daniel Radcliffe. And her performance in Macbeth (as Lady Macbeth) has received critical acclaim.

According to IMDb, Macbeth had a limited release in the U.S. this summer, but I don’t remember reading about it. If you’ve seen it, review Hall’s performance in the comments.

Whether Hill turns out to be Wonder Woman or not, I have to say that she certainly looks the part.

And even knowing little about her, I vote for Hill over the other rumored WW candidate, Jessica Biel. Say it with me, now: huh?

Hopefully, our readers across the pond can tell us more. Can Hill act? Can you picture her as a superhero? And most importantly, would Lori approve?

First it needs a decent script

This poor wanna-be a film has been in development hell for SO long. I remember when Sandra Bullock was rumored to be the next WW, and back then she was young enough to play it! Eliza Dushku also was on the list at one time... but she needs to gain some weight back and get some DDs to be able to fit the costume.

I wonder if it will EVER see the light of day... and when Warner Bros is going to get back to me about the treatment I sent them for it... hmmm..

    interesting prediction...

let's see if they go with the relative unknown Victoria or the much rumored Jessica? I guess it might depend on the star power they get for the other super hero roles.

Now I also wonder if they will ever explore the legend that Amazons had only one breast?

    Lucy Lawless would make for

Lucy Lawless would make for a great Hippolyta (Wonder Woman's mom) if they ever do a Wonder Woman movie. I doubt she'd have a role in anything about the Justice League.

Jessica Biel would be an awful choice. Not that I expect much from the same people who cast Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Blech.

    WW

Clearly she can't play WW because she parts her hair on the opposite side. It's like that flushing toilet deal when it comes to those wacky aussies. Anyway, since they shitcanned Joss from the production, I'm guessing that it'll never get made, unless they're looking at a straight to dvd release.

    What flushing toilet deal?

What flushing toilet deal? Our toilets are fine, thank you very much; they flush the proper Australian way. ^_^

Hay there The Linster, maybe you should rethink that whole “popular stage, film and television actress in Australia” sentence. I mean, I pay a lot of attention to our woefully under funded film and television industry (thank you very much American free trade agreement) and its minuscule acting community and I’m pretty sure that the majority of people here like me have never heard of her. but she is cute.

And when did Jessica Biel suddenly become so big, really, Jessica Biel? I just don’t get it.

    "Popular"

But I read on the Internet that she was popular there, so it must be true!

    Thanks for the first-hand report.

    Our toilets empty with a

Our toilets empty with a flush while US toilets do a scary fill-up thing before emptying. At least you hope it's going to empty. I once had a very unfortunate episode in an apartment in NYC that meant I had to walk half a block to McDonald's for a week every time I wanted to take a sh**.

But I think J from P might actually have been referring to water down the sink. It goes down the opposite way in the southern hemisphere to the northern, but I can never remember which is which. At the Equator, apparently it doesn't swirl but goes straight down the sink. I once had a chance to test that in Ecuador, having stopped to take a photo of myself jumping over the equator and then paying to use a souvenir shop's toilet. To my girlfriend's annoyance, I completely forgot to check what the water looked like going down the sink. That was a short-lived relationship, needless to say.

But I agree with you about the alleged popularity of Victoria Hill. I've never heard of her either. Judging from Google, she either made a film I've never heard of or is a Bed & Breakfast in Bendigo.

    hehe

Nothing i am about to say is going to help this...I happen to part my hair on that side as well, and i tested out that toilet myth with a Canadian friend a few years back...our toilets do indeed flush in the opposite direction :D You can't deny you love us Aussies anyway :p

Buy the ticket, take the ride.

    Victoria Hill

Well hopefully she has improved as an actor since XENA. While the Ring trilogy episodes were terrific, she was pretty wooden! I actually think Jessica Biel could be ok...

If they bring back Joss and add Charisma Carpenter as Wonder Woman we may just have a movie...

    Wonder Woman my heroine

It would be nice to place unknown actress in the film.  They did it with the remake of superman. Underrated need a breakout role too.

What about Supergirl. I thought they were going to remake supergirl too?

    Alcy's picture

    meh

I absolutely love Jessica Biel but wouldn't watch Wonder Woman even if she were in it simply because the whole concept is so friggin' awful and that costume...blech! (Not a Wonder Woman fan!)

I think the Justice League is going to be a Fantastic Four sized suck fest as well, these people need to talk to Brian Singer about making decent action hero movies...it's a tricky genre and few manage to do it well, Batman Begins, X-Men, HellBoy...I like my superheroes dark, not schmaltzed up for the kiddies.

Not unless she adds about 20

Not unless she adds about 20 pounds of muscle to that skinny ass frame of hers. At least Jessica Biel has the body, if not the look or the gravitas. Wonder Woman not only has to have the bearing, but the biceps. Y'know? She has to look like she could crack walnuts by flexing. Or evildoers. We're talking about the woman who snapped Max Lord's neck.

    well

hill might be able to pull it off...but my original pick for WW would have always been Taylor Cole...of summerland...she's got the look for it... here's her as WW http://www.taylor-cole.com/Taylor%20as%20Wonder%20Woman.jpg and here's what she usually looks like http://www.taylor-cole.com/taylor_cole_gallery.htm

Victoria Hill for wonder woman? no thank you.

    Morena Baccarin would be prefect!

Lucy Lawless is still the hottest woman on the planet!!!

.... And Victoria Hill ain't no Lucy Lawless or Wonder Woman.
    ice cream's picture

    I lost interest

the moment Joss left the project, I don't really care who gets the part now though I'd prefer Lucy Lawless or failing that, Morena Baccarin, incidently, before Joss left he mentioned on his blog that he felt Cobie Smulders would have been perfect for the role - at least she parts her hair on the right side. ;)

    I didn't even recognize her,

though I absolutely oved the Ring trilogy. How can I forget the kiss, or Brunhilda falling for Gabrielle (can't blame her)?

It'll be interesting and delightful to see another Xenaverse face becoming a household name, for sure!

IIRC, Waltraute was a particularly snotty little Valkyrie with a bug up her ass about getting Xena, primarily so she could impress Odin.

Personally, I'd love to see Lucy Lawless involved in the WW project as one of the dieties (Athena, perhaps ;) )

    tiff's picture

    Yeah, I remember Joss saying

Yeah, I remember Joss saying Cobie Smulders would be perfect for the role. She definitely looks the part, and I absolutely love her. I would watch the movie if she was cast.
    JK_Singer's picture

    Oh god...

I have to agree with cogent53, if she hasn't improved... not good.

I just saw the ring trilogy; great great great episodes, but my god she was horrible! So let's hope it was just a bad written role for her..

On the other hand, most of the actors from the ring were pretty terrible (not lucy and renee of course) ..

    Two different movies

I have no recollection of Victoria Hill's acting abilities but she does look the part.

But anyway, just wanted to say this because some people seem to be confusing two movies: this bit of news is about the Justice League of America movie, not the Wonder Woman movie that Joss Whedon was part of earlier.

    Whoops

I really should read the articles on this site properly before posting, but who has the time?! 'course now that I know what film we're supposed to be posting about I'm slightly more interested than I was this morning, I wonder who's going to be Hawkgirl? is there even going to be a Hawkgirl?!

Imagination is the eye of the soul ~

    Mondoshawan's picture

    Here's hoping

Don't know yet if Hawkgirl will be in it but there's hope since they seem to be looking for more than one female lead.

    Lucy Lawless as WW

from what i remember WW is supposed to be just that ...A WOMAN!!! Lucy looks much younger than her 39 years and has one of the best bodies around young or old. If the ptb get on a WW movie soon, Lucy would be the best choice. She can play campy and dark all at the same time.

This discussion kind of reminds me of the new Bionic Woman tv show, it should be called Bionic Twerp. Lindsey Wagner was a woman not some 20 something. Even now with older eyes i would not look at LW as a 20 something.

Quit talking about age, LL would make a great WW, besides with great lighting and makeup she can pass for late 20's early 30's with no problem. No one else has the body, looks (with dark hair of course), the smile and girl next door sex appeal that LL can bring to the screen. I hope to god someone wakes up and gives this woman a chance.

    Biel no go for WW

    ...and there was much rejoicing

     per EW here

If there are no further questions I'll start my reign of terror now.
