TV Guide's Sexiest Stars: Who's on top?

I watch Ghost Whisperer and I'm not ashamed to admit it. OK, a little embarrassed, maybe, but we all have our guilty pleasures. And even though Jennifer Love Hewitt is, at times, a bit too earnest for me, I can think of many reasons why she tops TV Guide 's "Sexiest Stars" list this year. Here are two.

What? I'm talking about her eyes. Hewitt might not be No. 1 on my list — at least not while Tina Fey is on TV — but I am tickled that she can flaunt her sexy status to the paps that trashed her for looking less-than-perfect in a bikini last year. Somehow, the fact that she didn't need to be on the list to know she's sexy makes her topping it even better.

The fact is that several of the female Sexiest Stars defy the young, rail-thin types we usually see on these lists. Vanessa Williams, who still reigns as the queen of mean on Ugly Betty, is not only curvy, but she just turned 45.

Another listee, Mary-Louise Parker — our favorite drug dealer/MILF from Weeds — is 43. Parker would be very high on my own version of this list, for reasons that Dorothy Snarker nicely summed up on her own blog earlier this week. (Thanks for the backgrounder, Ms. Snarker.)

Listing Katee Sackhoff indicates that TV Guide discovered something this year that AfterEllen.com readers have known for years: Kick-ass women are hot. Of course, listing Katee Sackhoff without Tricia Helfer and Grace Park is just wrong.

As is listing Sackhoff without Lucy Lawless and Mary McDonnell.

But at least we know they're watching BSG.

One more AfterEllen.com favorite who made the list, Olivia Wilde, deserves a mention because (a) her character just came out as bisexual, and (b) it's an excuse to post her picture. Lucky Thirteen, lucky us.

But, of course, lesbian and bisexual women have refined sensibilities about sexiness, so we must weigh in as well. Think of it as warm-up for the just-announced 2008 AfterEllen.com Hot 100.

and need I mention the super-hotness of Michelle Forbes?! she may not be on BSG anymore but she was on In Treatment.

i went over to the site to see all of the sexy peoples and noticed, on the sidebar, a range of smaller sexy lists to choose from. one of these was 'sexiest smart chicks', so of course i had to explore further. tina fey (to the excitement of many, i'm sure) made the list, but the blurb alongside her picture gave me pause. It says:

"Liz Lemon, 30 Rock - Her shoes may be bi-curious, but Tina Fey's singleton TV producer makes workaholism (and even alcoholism hot.)"

call me overly sensitive, if indeed that's what i'm being, but it seems to me that totally slams bisexualism (oddly, given the prevalence of it among girls come sweeps time) as not hot - in a completely unnecessary and kind of noxious way. as even less hot that being a workaholic and/or alcoholic, even. it's just... odd. such an odd statement.

I think it's less a case of slamming bisexuality than just bad writing. All of the comments are kind of weird. But, hey, register your complaint by writing the TV Guide editors – that's the only way to raise awareness.

I like the character of Starbuck being female on BSG, but I'm not a Katie Sackhoff fan.

Is it just me … or does Lucy Lawless look better than her younger Xena years? Maturity does become her, or is it just confidence and coming into her own?

It was remiss of me but I only checked out Xena late last year after becoming a fan of BSG ... go the cylons heh! :) If any one made me drool in Xena it was the buff, grounded and gorgeous personality of Renee O'Connor as Gabrielle.

At least the TV Guide list is a bit more on par with the women I'd choose than the choices that a magazine such as Maxim (for example) might list.

I'm sure that once I get the chance to investigate the TV Guide selections more closely, I'll come up with a lot of names that I would have liked to have seen among the ones listed, as there are so many great choices that are sadly missing from these types of lists year after year, but then again that's why we have our AfterEllen 100 list!

Starbuck recently has become my favorite television character ever for many reasons. I love Katee Sackhoff and want to have, like, 10,000 of her babies.
