"TRON 2.0" goes Wilde

OK, TRON-heads, gather round. I have the best news for you since you learned that rumors of TRON 2.0 are true: Olivia Wilde, who played bisexual Thirteen on House and Alex Kelly on The O.C, has been cast as one of the female leads.

Producers are keeping a tight rein on TRON 2.0 plot details, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film.”

Costumers, may I suggest a look?

Wilde’s costar in the forgettable (trust me) Turistas, Beau Garret, has also been cast. She will play “a siren in the virtual world.”

TRON 2.0, which will be shot entirely in 3-D, will start production next year for release in 2011.

TRON was one of the first movies to use computer special effects and has become a cult classic among sci-fi geeks as a result. I’m looking forward to seeing how TRON 2.0 takes advantage of new technology while keeping the spirit of the original.

Are you a TRON fan, or might you become one now that Olivia Wilde is involved?

    I'll see anything Olivia's in...

My roommate emailed me about this yesterday.  I've never heard of Tron (I was born the year it was released), but, as I told him, I'd go see anything Olivia Wilde's in.... :)

FYI - Olivia Wilde's character on The O.C. was also bisexual.  She dated both Adam Brody's character Seth and Mischa Barton's character Marissa.

    OK

Sorry about that -- I wasn't an O.C. watcher except for those Very Special Episodes, so didn't know the history. I'll get it corrected. Thanks!

    No worries

I didn't really pay attention at the time (I had realized I was bi yet), but I remember a lot of people criticizing it because the lesbian storyline between Olivia and Mischa's characters was said to be a sweeps ploy.  I watched it again this summer (I have Seasons 1-3 on DVD; 4th season sucked) and Olivia was in the first 9-10 episodes of Season 3 and she was hanging out with/dating Mischa's character for a good 3-4 episodes at the end.  She hung out with/ flirted/ dated Adam Brody's character Seth for the first few episodes she did.

    it sucks. the way they

it sucks. the way they ended their relationship. i mean i don't get the reason behind it. they just put in ''lesbian storylines'' to get more ratings? :\ and we desperately watch it anyway! taking anything we could get... haha. it's depressing.

    Greetings Programs

    MAJOR Tron geek here

That movie made such an impression on my as a kid. To this day one of my all time favorite movies. I have been looking forwad to this sequal for quite some time as it has been in the works for YEARS.

They surprised everyone at Comic Con this year with a sneak preview of a light cycle sequance. While the video of the video is not fantastic you get the jist of what is going on..I could get into the whole..why are the bike so free flowing in the computer world where as before they were resticted to the game grid(?) argument that popped up after this was spread across the interwebs. I fear if I show that much of my inner geek, I may scare the children. As far as this movie goes..I, for one, CANNOT WAIT!

You can see the clip here

    End of line.

thanks for the post gato.... and yes you are a geek...just kidding!!!!  :)
    Trix's picture

It made an impression on me too

    ...in my teens.

But I saw it again quite recently, and OMG, it doesn't hold up for me. The light cycle stuff is groovy, but the acting and plot - what plot? - are just dire.

But I think I'll check out the new movie, because that light cycle sequence looks groovy. As to geeky questions about the new action being more free-flowing, uh? We don't just play side scroller games like Moon Patrol these days. Computer imagery is now in 3D, on desktops even. I think it'd be odd if the virtual "world" was the same as the world that was around 20 years ago.

Mind you, I shouldn't be surprised at geek guys who want things exactly the same as the thing they first fell in love with.

    gato's picture

    I agree

about the computer "gaming grid" argument. As soon as everyone saw this piece form comic con they all started complaining about the cycles being so free flowing..but they also forgot that in the original film..they were the same way once they left the game grid...so when I pointed that out..they were alright with it.. and i have now exposed WAY too much of my geek.

As for the movie holding up.. i have to respecfully disagree with you. I think it does hold..the story holds and could easily have been adapted for the modern age. But I am glad they decided to make a sequal instead of a remake.

Nothing wrong with exposing one's inner geek

So true about it being internally consistent when the light cycles went off the grid in the original movie. That's good you won that particular argument.

I think part of my problem with the original is that I've really gone off Jeff Bridges. :-)

And yep, it's good it's a sequel rather than a remake. That would be wrong (not that it's stopped them in the past).

I really have no idea what Tron is but I would just gladly watch Olivia Wilde stand on screen and read the phonebook for three hours. She's insanely hot.

This is one of the greatest thing I've heard this week.  I loved the orginal and the level they put in Kingdom Hearts 2.  I also like OW.  Can't wait till this comes out

    Tron was awesome.

Tron was awesome. introduced me to Bruce Boxleitner who then was the lead in my most fav tv series of all time - Babylon 5! that series also pushed what could be done with CGI and on a budget. woooooow.

    I'm not a TRON fan

But I'm a Olivia Wilde fan. It's not fair how beautiful she is. I get way too distracted when there's pictures of her on _anything_. I don't care what she's in, I'm willing to waste watch a 2hr movie with her in it.

Olivia Wilde and Lena Headey, match up?!

I swear, I am absolutely and positively smitten with this woman... just borderline, lunatically obsessed... I just adore her!

So I don't care.. TRON movie here I come. If I can watch Turistas... and Alpha Dog... and EVEN the music video of "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessional over and over again... I can take a technologically driven movie anyday... I can even see it with no sound! haha.

But really, people... I've decided the greatest pair up for a movie would be Lena Headey and Olivia Wilde together... maybe add a little of Erin Daniels in the mix. I would die a very very happy death!

Quick, someone hide the mountain oxen!

And we still need volunteers to keep Megan Fox occupied until after the movie is out of theaters.  Who's up for it?

    In the minority. As usual.

But heck, I'm used to it.

I'm pretty indifferent about Olivia Wilde, probably because I don't care about the TV-shows she got famous with. But I always liked Tron. OK, the storyline is shallow, but hey, it's the same for at least 95% of the movies produced every year. But Tron's visual style was groundbreaking and is unique until this day. I'm curious to see how they will translate it into the new version.

What I would love to see even more would be a movie based on System Shock. Admittedly, most movies "based" on computer games have been bull so far. But Shodan is just a much more interesting AI than the good old MCP.

TRON was a little before my

TRON was a little before my time, but I'm DEFINITELY going to check out the remake if Olivia is in it.  They could probably film her walking around in a potato sack and I'd pay $10.50 to see it in the theater, lol.  That woman is magical!
