Michelle Williams talks to "Vogue" about taking care of herselfAfterEllen.com is one of the few places that I can admit this: I was a Dawson’s Creek fan. It was appointment TV for me. I marked it up to a crush on Joey Potter but, to be honest, I was just plain into the show.
We were so young and gay. Well, one of us was. One character I couldn’t quite figure out, though, was Jen Lindley. She moved to Capeside to live with Grams after some kind of scandal and slowly-but-surely shed her bad-girl persona to become a beloved member of Dawson’s tribe.
I found myself intrigued with Jen, even though I didn’t have the same kind of, er, feelings about her character that I had about Joey. Not until Brokeback Mountain did I realize that my fascination was not with Jen, but with Michelle Williams.
Brokeback is where Williams met Heath Ledger, the father of her child Matilda Rose. The couple split up in 2007, but remained close. When Ledger died in January 2008, Williams had to deal with not only the loss, but also the descent of the paparazzi.
In a new interview for the October issue of Vogue, Williams talks for the first time about her struggle. “I was holding it together by a string and a paperclip in the fall and winter.” she said. “I didn’t know if I could keep it together.” And all the while, she tried to maintain a semblance of normalcy for her daughter.
With the help of friends, especially other women and children, she has been able to heal. “One got me gardening in the spring, and that’s when it started to turn around. I think it's something about being in nature that made it more possible. I remember being on my hands and knees. The ground was cold and muddy. I pushed back the dead leaves and saw the bright green shoots of spring. Under all this decay something was growing. Caring for the garden reminded me to care for myself."
If the photos in Vogue are any indication, she indeed has taken care of herself. Williams looks fabulous.
She also looks a bit like Melissa Joan Hart, doesn’t she?
An edited version of the interview is posted at Vogue’s style.com site and you can read the whole story in the October issue.

she looks great
im a big fan of her and her willingness to take on gay and gay adjacent roles (but im a cheerleader, if these walls could talk 2 and of course brokeback).
i wish her and her daughter all the best and hope they can heal from the loss of heath in time.
did i mention she looks great? my god she looks great
Clarissa Meets Twiggy
add a splash of Edie Sedwick
Totally what I was thinking...
yeah!
all she needs is a cigarette in her hand and it would totally be edie.
::sighs:: i guess michelle's just a classic beauty
Brokeback Mountain and
Brokeback Mountain and Synecdoche New York made me realize she is way more than Jen on Dawsons Creek. I think she is adorable, and really grounded and talented as hell. Did i say adorable yet?

Have you seen Wendy and Lucy
Have you seen Wendy and Lucy yet?
She somehow manages to be heartbreakingly sympathetic, homeless, and hot. All at the same time.

I too, was a DC fan. And to this day Jen Lindley is one of my favourite tv-characters. And Michelle Williams is definitley one of my favourite actresses. There is no question about that she is incredibly talented and beautiful. Besides that I love that she seem to have such integrity, intelligence and she also seems a bit shy. In all the interviews (including this one!)I´ve seen with her she always say stuff that is thoughtful and intelligent (Megan Fox can learn a thing or two). And as somebody pointed out she has starred in quite a few gay movies. Which makes me like her even more. But I have pretty much watched anything she´s been in.
I wish her and Matilda all the best in life!
great interview
have always loved michelle.
and really liking this quote from the interview:
"There is a great Gloria Steinem quote—and I'm paraphrasing—'Become the man you want to marry.' I've taken that on. What qualities do I find attractive, and can I find them in myself? What am I missing? Can I be that for myself?"
- i couldnt agree more.

Wow, that is a really
Wow, that is a really powerful statement by her.
I've watched her in a ton of movies, and her acting abilities are so much higher than I would have assumed.
Plus, she is a really hot MILF. She just has that seasoned woman air. I would do anything just to sit in a room with her and pick her brain.
She was Awesome in ITWCT2
I agree, If These Walls
Michelle Williams>>
She looks AMAZING!!!
But please don't insult her by saying she looks like Melissa Joan Hart: Michelle is better looking and more talented than that airhead.
And I don't care what anyone says: I liked The Baxter!
THANK you-
RE: melissa joan hart- i thought the exact same thing.
too bad about her and spike tho
Strictly looks
Eh...
I don't think it's necessary to insult one actress to assert how talented another is. You may think that Michelle is really talented and all but I happen to like Melissa and loved her show Sabrina The Teenage Witch while growing up. She has great comedian timing and the show was on for 7 seasons. I don't think she got there by being an airhead with no talent.
in the interest of full disclosure RE: mjh
i loved this show
The Baxter
I first noticed her in The Baxter; she's a temp with a pageboy hair cut who wears a dress with a peter pan collar, and other cute things. Her name is Cecil. She makes me think of that line in The Night Watch: "some blue eyed girl who'd need fussing over." My favorite scene is when she comes in from the rain soaked, with a pout on her face. Anyway, yes - adorable. Completely.
Blonde Jenny Schecter???
Is it just me, or does that cover look like Mia Kirshner as a blonde Jenny?
... creeeeepy
not just you
True!
I just like her, period!
I won't lie and say that I've seen everything Michelle has ever done. I have seen Brokeback Mountain and of course If These Walls Could Talk 2. And yes, I was even a huge fan of The Creek! Who are you to judge me?!?!?!? But she's not on my favorite actor's list or anything. That being said, I find that I just like her as a person. She's honest, up front, and most importantly a fabulous mother. I wish her all the best in life.

I love, love Michelle! She
I love, love Michelle! She is my favourite actress! She's so beautiful, she looks great with any hair style/colour and if you've seen the excellent Wendy and Lucy you will know that she looks stunningly beautiful even without make-up. I've seen many of her films and I'm not much of a DC fan, but I sometimes catch it just for her. By far she is the best of any actor on a teen drama, how many others have gone on to indie/arty films afterwards? And I agree that she is very gay-friendly, not just with Brokeback, If these walls... and But I'm a Cheerleader but let's not forget she played the bff of gay character Jack in DC and she was also in bisexual male-themed Imaginary Heroes. She's pefect, I love her! ...but I don't see the MJH comparison. She looks more like Jean Seberg/Edie/Ingrid Bergman, those kinds of delicate, feminine beauties.
oh, and I just remembered that she kisses a girl (Megan Gray, I think) in the DC episode Clean and Sober. Check it out at 0:24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhvouo7oVuo&feature=related Michelle blushes after she kisses her, so cute!
And yes I do realise how much of a geeky fan I sound like, but she's my fav. actress so I'm allowed to have tons of pointless trivia!
Happy for her :)
She's such a wonderful actress, and she seems like a great person too.
I'm glad she's found her peace now and rediscovered the joy of life. :)
P.S. Loved "Dawson's Creek" like crazy. Didn't miss a single episode. I found it quite fascinating how they took teenager issues and handled them in a mature way (as were the dialogues; it was like you were listening to adults talking). The DVD set is a must-have. *g*
matilda
definetely her father's daughter.
Hopefully as time goes on, people stop asking michelle about Heath in every interview.
I think she looks massively
