Martha Plimpton steps into "Grey’s" fancy elevator

Raise your hand if you have a crush on Martha Plimpton.

Wow — I didn’t even know that many people were here. For me, it started when she played Stef Steinbrenner in The Goonies, but only because I hadn’t seen The River Rat yet.

Really, who could resist a crush on a cute little baby dyke tomboy like Jonsy?

In fact, her tendency to get cast as the “wisecracking best friend” is what made her shift her focus to theater — a pretty good move, judging from her accolades. She’s been nominated for three Tony Awards: for The Coast of Utopia in 2007, Top Girls in 2008 and Pal Joey in 2009.

I’d give her an award for Outstanding Cuteness in this photo of Plimpton with her Pal Joey buds.

Fortunately, our favorite Martha hasn’t abandoned TV completely. We’ll get to see her in a multi-episode arc on Grey’s Anatomy next season. Plimpton’s role as Pam, the mother of an 18-year old patient starts with the season premier on September 24. And I have to confess, I’m hoping for a few magic moments with Callie on that fancy elevator at Seattle Grace.

How about you? When was your first crush on Martha Plimpton? Did it ever end? Will you look for her on Grey’s Anatomy?

    200 cigarettes!

I never had a crush on her, but she was so much fun in 200 cigarettes. Best thing about that film. There were many awesome characters in it, but she was my favorite.

    Parenthood

I've never really had a crush on her (though the pictures you posted of her are quite nice), but I really love her in both Goonies and Parenthood

    o martha

one of the greatest perpetual sources of sadness in my life is knowing that Martha Plimpton is not a dyke. :[ But how cool is it that she's down with the queers? damn.

I have had a crush on her since Goonies ("it's a WHOLE different experience!") and she is at the top of my list of Women I Would Someday Like to Touch.

    Running on Empty

Much as I loved _Goonies_, it was in _Running on Empty_ that I started to notice her in that way.

For those of you who haven't seen the film, River Phoenix stars as the teenage son of 60s-era radicals gone underground. When the family relocates to yet another new town, he gets noticed for his abilities as a pianist, putting his whole family at risk. Plimpton plays his first love, the first person he ever lets in on his secret.

I was twelve or thirteen when it came out, and I came out of the theater crushing hard on both Phoenix and Plimpton. I suspect I told myself that I wanted to be Plimpton so I could be with Phoenix, but I think it's fairly obvious (given the fact that I'm posting on AE in this thread) that that was just a rationalization.

If you haven't seen _Running on Empty_, I definitely recomend seeking it out, especially if you like Plimpton. Judd Hirsch and Christine Lahti played Phoenix's parents, Sidney Lumet directed, and it was very well reviewed and won some minor awards at the time it came out.

If she didn't look so much

If she didn't look so much like a friend of mine's mother, I could see crushing, maybe, but for the moment, she's not really doin' it for me.

She was, however, fabulous on tonight's episode.  :]

    Chantilly Lace

What haven't I loved her in?!? But I have to say it was especially nice to see her playing a lesbian (with Ally Sheedy no less!!) in Chantilly Lace. And the movie has a few of my other faves; Lindsay Crouse, JoBeth Williams... a star studded, 100% female movie... check it out!
