"Mamma Mia!" was made for singing along

I loved Mamma Mia!

I know the critics were not kind, but seriously, what’s not to like? Beautiful scenery on a Greek island, head-bobbing music you know from your youth and, best of all, Meryl Streep dancing in overalls.

In fact, the only thing that could make this movie more fun is if we could be on that Greek isle, singing and dancing along. And just in time for the holiday weekend, we’re getting two out of three in the form of Mamma Mia! The Sing Along Edition. The lyrics to every musical number in the film will appear on-screen, just in case the music of ABBA isn’t seared permanently into your brain.

Here’s the trailer:

This version is in limited release, so check here to find a theater in your area. And if you’re shy about singing, take heart — you know you’ll sound better than Pierce Brosnan.

You can dance, you can jiiiiiive!

"And if you’re shy about singing, take heart — you know you’ll sound better than Pierce Brosnan."

LOL! So true he was not very good at the singing.... Meryl however was amazingly good.

I love this movie SO much. I love Meryl and seeing her in this movie makes me almost as happy as seeing her play a lesbian in The Hours (that was such a great movie.. *swoons*). I don't think this sing-along version will be playing in the Netherlands but that's ok. When it comes out on DVD I'm gonna have my very OWN sing-along party :P

Thanks for posting this, after seeing the movie four times the clips in the trailer still don't get old!

    Meryl on the Actor's Studio

I loved this movie, too, and would love to sing along, since I haven't been able to get the tunes out of my head for a solid two weeks!

The film is pure entertainment and I was so proud of Meryl. On The Actor's Studio a few years ago she said that if she had not been an actor she would have liked to have tried singing. So here she is getting to do both. Good for her!

    I love this film!

The sing along version is showing in the UK too. I've now seen the film 4 times - 3 for the normal version and one for the singalong.

One tip though - the singalong version is one time you actually want the cinema to be packed- the atmosphere is so much better that way!

    Best. Audience. Ever.

I happened to be in a showing with a group of guys from Turtle Creek Chorale and it was fabulous. I highly recommend finding members of a gay men's chorus to go with!

    I love the thought

but who needs lyrics? I know the lyrics. I've been singing these songs since I was 8 years old. But I love ABBA and I love Meryl so may take this as an excuse to go see the film again.

    Meryl Streep...

    I loved this movie too.

Meryl Streep was bloody brilliant in it!!! She's 59 people, 59 years-old and did you see how she jumped on that bed? I hope that I've that body when I'm her age.

A month before Mamma Mia came out in the theather (here in the Netherlands); they showed the movie: The House of Spirits (where there was some subtext between the character of Meryl Streep and Glenn Close) and I was under the impression of Meryl Streep. I had seen "The Devils Wears Prada" where see was phenomenal in it and "The Bridges of Madison County" a beautiful love story. I don't know why... but after seeing "The House of Spirits"  (Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close); I was sold.

Whenever I asked my mom who her favorite actressed were; she always answered with: Romy Schneider & Meryl Streep.

After seeing "The House of Spirits"; I rented :  Prime, Sophie's Choice, Heart Burn, French Lieutenant Woman and The Hours. I completly understand why Meryl Streep is my moms favorite actrice, because she's mine now too. She is one of the best actresses; if not the best.

Back to Mamma Mia; I never have seen the musical, so the story was new for me and I loved how they put the songs of ABBA into the story.

Meryl Streep; she has a beautiful voice; I always loved the song "The Winner takes it All" and Meryl Streep deliver it with such an emotion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOlEsQxmKGc&feature=related .

I saw this movie with my mom; and when the scene came where Sophie asked her mom if she could give her away and than the song "Slipping through my Fingers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnelpiOAgI8 , well we both had teary eyes.

Mamma Mia is just a feel-good movie on a beautiful island!!! And if you love Meryl Streep, you will certainly love it!!!

    And the last scene; priceless!!!

    Sing Along..

I love Mamma Mia! Seen it way too many times...If its possible?!

I made any excuse to see it... "Mum..We don't spend enough time together..Wanna see Mamma Mia?" Then I got the soundtrack and it's quickly moving up on my most played.. Meryl Streep was unreal, she has such a voice!

Defiantly going to see the sing-along version if it hits the cinema nearby..

Can't wait for it to come out on dvd too!

    I love it

I love this movie so much! And I actually sang along the first time around;) I am not sure if everyone in the theatre liked it, but who cares I had the time of my life and the people around me, too. It is such a feel-good movie. I can only say if you ever feel down and like ABBA GO AND SEE THIS MOVIE and you will leave with a huge smile on your face!

    It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life. And I'm feeling good.

    Loved this movie and will

Loved this movie and will ahve to see it a second time. People in my theater got up and danced with the closing number. Imagine what will happen at a theater with the sing-a-long version? It's going to be a riotous party!

    mamma mia trailer

The trailers are all I've seen of it, they wound me up!

The voiceover said something like 'every woman wants to marry a man' - surely such sweeping statements don't belong in any film this century.

    the linster's picture

    Nah...

Don't let that put you off -- the film actually has some gay content. Nothing lesbian, unfortunately, but I have to say that the best chemistry in the movie is between Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters!
    fallon ash's picture

    the trailer read my mind...

"This summer, do what you wanted to do the first time you watched Mamma Mia!..."

Oh, gosh, that is so totally what I wanted to do the first time I saw Mamma Mia!, and then I though the exact same thing the second time as well... I really really really hope that comes to Sweden (but with the 'select theatres' I don't have too high hopes), but oooh, it would be so much fun!!!

    "This summer, do what you

"This summer, do what you wanted to do the first time you watched Mamma Mia!..."

Wait - you mean everyone didn't sing along the first time they saw it? I haven't seen the movie, but I saw the musical, and there was plenty of sing-alonging going on!

    Jenn's picture

    I hummed the first time.

    I sang the second time.

    I belted the third time.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! I hope its playing near me. Unfortunately, my BFF who has seen it as mch as me left for college last week. She'l just have to drive 6 hours to see it. :D

    Kim's picture

    wOOt!

I am so excited for this sing-a-long..... not like I wasn't singing the previous three times I have seen it. I always leave the theater in such a good mood after this movie..... and I love that it appeals to every age.

Really how could you not love Meryl?.....she is moving up to my top 10 for afterellen's hot 100 next year!!!!!!

    Mari SanGiovanni's picture

    Best movie of the year!!!!

You don't know what you are missing if you have not seen this movie...TWICE!!! Meryl Streep is the best.

Oh how I love this movie!

I want go to see the sing-along version, but the nearest theater is at least an hour away. FAIL. Why isn't it playing in my town? I think it's big enough. When I first saw it opening weekend, I was mouthing the words for most of the movie. Think if I could sing and dance to it! Also, Mamma Mia is like my favorite movie this year, and I just love Meryl Streep now. :D
    Smagninborg's picture

    Wohoo!

How great! I mean, I surely know all the lyrics, because I grew up within the ABBA songs, but it was really hard to concentrate on the film while I just wanted to sing out loud in the theater. So maybe this will cheer all the others up too and a whole crowd is singing "Dancing Queen"...What a nice idea! Summer joy, people!

    I haven't seen it

I haven't seen Mamma Mia, because in Russia it releases only on Sep 25th and I can't wait to see it! I'm counting days - it's 26 to go :((( I believe Meryl Streep is great there! And I'm already planning how many times I could see it - one with my friend, one with my mom or sister, one with my colleagues, one only by myself :)))

    ABBA

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more generally disgruntled responder on site than me...and I loved this movie! It was fun! And yes, I'm a closet ABBA fan. Well, not really a closet, I just don't throw it out there.
