"Mad Money": Holmes, Latifah and Keaton steal the show

I have to admit, my first thought on seeing this picture of Katie Holmes was, "At last, she can find her Helen."

But no, Katie has not become a bad girl — yet. She does, however, play a girl gone wrong in the movie Mad Money, in which she stars with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.

Mad Money is the story of three janitors at the Federal Reserve who plot to steal money that is scheduled for destruction. Arthur Frobisher Ted Danson also stars. The movie is based on the British film Hot Money, which was based on a true story.

Mad Money is Holmes' first film since the birth of her daughter, Suri. She turned down Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, to take on the role of Jackie. According to director Callie Khouri, the movie brings out a comedic side of Holmes that fans have not seen before. I'm just glad she's back.

Keaton plays Bridget, a woman forced into the workforce (I just realized why it's called a workforce) after her husband (Danson) loses his job. She finally accepts the only job she can get — cleaning the Federal Reserve Bank. And she is radiant, as usual.

Latifah is Nina, "a hard-working single mom with two kids to raise." Doesn't she always play that role?

Mad Money opens January 18 and I'll be there. If you have Starz, you can see sneak peeks of film footage on Starz Movie News once a month from now until release. But you can enjoy the trailer now.

What do you think of the trailer? Will you see Mad Money? Are you glad to see Katie back onscreen? And how does Diane Keaton get more beautiful every year?

    Mad Money

This is actually one of the few upcoming films I am looking forward to seeing based on the actors starring in it and the director.

Sometimes an actors real life can interfere with how you view them on the big or small screen... such is the case with Katie Holmes.  I have been a big Katie Holmes fan since her days as Joey on Dawson's Creek and especially loved her film work, in particular Wonder Boys.
However since marrying Tom Cruise, I have yet to watch any of her old films again, because everytime I see her I think of Tom and it just ruins it for me.

I am hoping that this latest foray into film will have me back on the Katie track and forgetting all about her personal life.

    yep

u right,, i kind feel the same way,,i think i can consider myself a devoted fan of katie holmes and her "joey" days at dawson's creek and her movies after that but as soon as she got married with cruise i lost interest, weird huh? why? anyways...

One of my first thoughts on

One of my first thoughts on seeing the pictures was "Oh, KH has got her hair curly... she usually wears it straight." Then I saw the trailer and what kind of a character she was supposed to be playing, and suddenly it all made sense. "Curly hair" in Hollywood language automatically equals "kooky" :p

I love KH, and her Cruise-marrying ways haven't really affected that... but I haven't ever gone to the cinema to see one of her movies, mostly because she seems to keep picking stuff that doesn't really interest me (and it doesn't look like this movie is going to be an exception). I'll have to stick with my Dawson's Creek re-runs.

    i've

always thought KATIE HOLMES was such a cutie,,, in fact i've liked her in dawson's creek,, i got hooked on that show only because of her, used to like her as a tomboy..I'll probably go watch this movie,, its like fun..I used to also watch living color now and then with latifah,, such a hilarious show..

    Latifah already did

Latifah already did something similar in Set It Off although she was all big and butch in that. That's pretty much all I kept thinking as I was watching the trailer. Well, that and how come Katie Holmes seems like she will be less annoying than usual and even slightly funny in this film? I may have to watch this when I can get hold of it.

The movie looks like it will

The movie looks like it will be very cute and funny.  The three women seem to have a lot of chemistry.

And, Katie looks great.  She was starting to look to skinny, but in the pictures she actually looks healthy.

    Mmm...

I have to say I was getting to like her when she was looking for good projects - like Ang Lee's "Ice Storm" and "Pieces of April" - but marrying Tom Cruise was, imo, a shoot in the foot, and very few things can be less attractive than been Ms. Cruise - Nicole Kidman found that out in one way or another and boomed her career, it seems sometimes...

    odd anatomy

Sorry, but I can't stop giggling and would like to share the reason: doesn't it look (on the 2nd photo) as if Katie has 3 hands?? ;-)

    Haha

Haha, that's hilarious! I didn't even notice it at first, but now I can't NOT see it.

Sounds like this movie might actually be worth spending a couple bucks to see, if only because this is some seriously random casting. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

Ha she does!! She has three

Ha she does!! She has three hands! *feelin a little confused now*

I remember watching Hot Money when it was first on TV here (it was a tv drama if I remember right - not a film) and it was really good and very funny in parts too. I'm looking forward to seeing this film, it's a pretty good story and although I'm not a fan of Katie Holmes it'll be interesting to see what she's like in this cos I've not seen her in anything since Dawson's Creek lol!

    Katie, Diane AND Latifah? SOLD

Katie can put the moves on me anyday (actually any of the female leads in Mad Money could!)
I totally agree with what some have already said about KH being far more compelling pre Tonkat days. But she's young and who hasn't gone a little crazy for love at some time? Hopefully her Mrs Cruise days are just as phase and she'll escape like Nicole and go on to the success that she deserves.
This film looks like it could be a lot of lighthearted, eye candy filled  fun-count me in, though I may wait for the dvd.
Channel 5 over here in the Uk have just been re-running Dawsons Creek and it has been a total joy to catch up with Joey, Jen, Jack (and dare I admit it?) Pacey. However just as i managed to organise my schedule so that my lunch break coincide with Capeside Ch 5 stopped it midseason and replaced it will Joey (what the hell?!)
