Lost in the eyes of Elizabeth Mitchell

If you're anything like me, this post will take you a while to read. It certainly took a while to write. Blame it on the eyes of Elizabeth Mitchell.

Good god, how hot can one person be?

I doubt that Mitchell needs an introduction to this audience. I mean, she got to make love with Angelina Jolie in Gia.

She also played the sultry shrink who escorted Dr. Kerry Weaver out of the closet on ER.

Kim and Kerry

And now she plays the enigmatic Dr. Juliet Burke on Lost.

Juliet joined Lost last season as one of the Others, and we're still not certain whether to trust her or not. But we certainly enjoy watching Elizabeth Mitchell play her.

This week, Lost finally gave us a Juliet-centric episode. Leading up to it, Mitchell let us in on her thoughts on Juliet via a few interviews. One, with Kristin at E! Online, is slightly spoilerish, so read it here when you're ready. Here's a nice teaser of the episode — if you watch it with the volume off, you can create your own Very Special Episode.

Mitchell told the Associated Press that she has one rule of thumb in playing Juliet: Don't act angry.

"She needed to be someone who could be a tremendous leader, who had an innate sense of power, but didn't behave in an angry or strident way. She needed to have a sense of toughness, but in the way the audience couldn't quite grasp."

Personally, I'd love to grasp her. But I digress.

Mitchell thinks growing up in Texas had a lot to do with her ability to play the character that way.

"On the outside, Texas women are incredibly gracious. But you don't want to be iced by a Texas woman."

As a Texas woman, I can tell you that she's right. Don't mess with Texas women.

Playing Juliet has been a thrill ride for Mitchell, who's been acting since age seven, when she played Alice in a Dallas Theater Center production of Alice Through the Looking Glass.

"Last year was one of the more thrilling, exciting years of my life. Because here was this show that I really, really like and here was this character that I'm completely captivated by. And it just keeps getting better and better. Every episode of the show gets richer."

Of course, on a show like Lost, even a main character like Juliet has no guarantee that she'll live to see another episode. But Mitchell is philosophical about the possibilities.

"Lost, like life itself, is completely open-ended. I don't know how my life is going to end. And Juliet has no idea how hers is going to end either."

I thought my own life might end — quite happily — when I watched this behind-the-scenes video of Mitchell and co-star Naveen Andrews at the TV Guide cover shoot. I just plain forgot to breathe.

But you know, seeing that kind of beauty and allure makes me want to live a long, long time. And I don't mind spending some of it basking in the eyes of Elizabeth Mitchell.

    God

    I share your obession!

I just can't peel my eyes off her on lost. She's stunning. I don't think she photographs very well though, she always seems so much hotter on TV. I think it's because she's playing juliet as well..., because i never fancied her that much in Gia. Although when i watch it now i'm like, oh my god, juliet is banging angelina joliee!

She's so great. I love her character on Lost shes just really intriging, and what are the odds that 2 beauties like Evangeline and Elizabeth end up stranded on a desert island? Their both such a briliant examples of strong stunning women. Loves it x

    JUST SHUG.

    Elizabeth Mitchell is

Elizabeth Mitchell is GORGEOUS!!  And I have to disagree with KerShmuckit, coz I thought she was hot in Gia too (or maybe it was just the combination of her and Jolie?)  I love her on Lost, I love Juliet, I think she is a really interesting character, and of course, it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful!  While I don't like Jack, I have to admit to being a little jealous of him, I mean it must be nice to have Evangeline Lilly AND Elizabeth Mitchell falling all over you!

I don't watch Lost, but of course I had to read this article anyway because I knew it would include many lovely pictures/videos of Elizabeth Mitchell. Holy hot damn is she beautiful! Thanks for livening up my otherwise dull afternoon. :)

    Yes!

Love love love Juliet on Lost. Elizabeth Mitchell is gorgeous and powerful, her portrayal is complex and keeps you guessing. A lot of my fellow Lost fans (even the queer ones!) don't get my Juliet fixation. I keep telling them that because of Mitchell's work in Gia and ER, Juliet is the closest thing the show has to a gay character....

Though *spoiler* I thought her kissing Jack was so gross. I had to look away.

    is made of magic.

    Sigh...

she had a short-lived series about a news channel called "The Beast" and I had the biggest crush on her. One of those "hit me over the head ***HOW*** did I not realize that was a crush" moments.

I haven't ever been a lost fan, but you can bet I'll rent the DVDs of any season she's in.

    LOVE her!

Elizabeth Mitchell is jsut gorgeous! Not sure whether I prefer her all soggy and wet or prissed up! She is also a wonderful actress, and I love Juliet on Lost, my favourite character because she is so mysterious.

I actually like her and Jack together, although you never really can tell is she is into him or has an ulterior motive, and I love that about Juliet. IMO the series picked up a lot ast year when they introduced her. She's an actress who is always worth watching. I saw Gia years ago and ws bowled over by her and Angelina Jolie. Who am I more envious of for snogging the other???

    Oh Yeah...

Elizabeth Mitchell "had me" from the moment she appeared onscreen with Angelina Jolie in GIA.

She also had an amusing "lesbian" moment in Nurse Betty and of course ER, so although not "family" she is certainly in the extended family per her wonderful willingness to embrace her GLBT fans and her gay friendly 'tude.

Now if only Lost would have her character and Kate interact more (even if she's all about Jack) her character together with Kate have had such great scenes whenever they appear together.
