Lizzy Caplan is a naked vegan psychopath (and proud of it)I happened to be watching HBO’s vampire series, True Blood, with a friend when Lizzy Caplan first appeared as Wellesley-girl-gone-bad Amy.
We talked about why Caplan looked so familiar and my friend decided it was because she looks like our favorite Facts of Life non-lesbian, Jo Polniaczek (Nancy McKeon).
But I knew that wasn’t it. As Amy and Jason reached critical mass during V-induced sex, I jumped up and yelled, “Janis Ian!” My friend was a little scared, thinking the scene had prompted some kind of '70s flashback and I was about to start singing “At Seventeen.” I knew what I meant, though — Lizzy Caplan played the maybe-she’s-a-lesbian, Janis Ian, in Mean Girls.
In True Blood, Caplan’s Amy is a sociopathic earth mother and vegan who’s addicted to vampire blood (“V”). I haven’t quite figured out how a vegan would justify drinking blood, but True Blood’s contradictions are part of its appeal. A good bit of Amy’s storyline involves the enhanced sex made possible by V, so Caplan spends much of her on-camera time sans clothes. (Did you really expect nudie pictures? You’ll have to find those for yourself — this is a classy site.) This is the first time Caplan has done nudity, so AOL’s asylum.com asked her how she felt about it: “…it is kind of traumatic to do it, but after the first time it was like ‘Oh, this is not bad at all. It was a little scary but I think I’m kind of over it now. I’m glad I did it. It was sort of a moment of invincibility like ‘Oh s--t, I can pull this off. It’s fine.’” Amy was not in Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse books on which True Blood is based, but was added by the show’s creators to “spice up the show a bit.” It’s a different kind of role for Caplan.
“I normally play a lot of characters that could be considered dark,” she told the-trades.com. “This is a total departure from that. She’s still really twisted and screwed up, but she’s actually sort of a hippie. She loves nature and thinks that everything is connected and that there is so much beauty in the world. But she’s actually kind of tweaked in the head.” “Kind of” is an understatement. Amy has convinced boyfriend Jason to kidnap a vampire (played by Office Space’s Stephen Root) and keep him as “a pet” in order to have a fresh supply of blood. Somehow, I think things will end badly for Amy. In any case, Caplan is on board for at least the rest of the season. And I, for one, am glad we get to see more of her — even if it’s more than we can show you here. Any True Blood fans out there? What do you think of the show? Do you expect any lesbian vampires to show up in Bon Temps? Submitted by on November 14, 2008 - 9:00am. |

i love true blood
and i really want to be able to despise her character....but she's way too hot!!!
All right, then, I'll go to hell. ~mark twain
I had the Janis Ian moment
I had the Janis Ian moment as well. Who doesn't love Mean Girls? I screamed a little when she got naked, sort of torn between hotness and horror... Janis Ian would not get naked and have sex with Jason Stackhouse.
Isn't Pam (Eric's vampire sidekick type chick) lesbian/bi? Did I imagine that?
www.myspace.com/stopstartstall - acousticy music type stuff.
Yes, Pam is at least bi (possible spoiler?)
Pam definitely is and very strongly prefers women in the book. It was more obvious in the book, during the Sookie all covered in blood scene. If they stick with the book timeline, then it will be more tell and less show for a while.
Amy is too hot for Jason.

I have a little crush
True Blood is yet to come to our shores but she was awesome in Cloverfield, that's when I had the "Janis Ian!" moment
~ nice music ~Cloverfield!
Lizzy
I heart Lizzy Caplan.
She is the reason I can watch Mean Girls over and over again. She is the reason I watched the awesome but terribly short-lived series The Class. Definitely, she was the ONLY reason I watched over half of Related (I honestly wanted to get more into it, but the other two neurotic sisters bugged me).
I haven't watched past the first episode of True Blood because I'm never home, but my roommate told me a couple weeks ago all excited that she was on the show. He wanted to tell me because he knew it would reel me in, he's right, I just need time.
Related!!
Just last night....
I had my Janis Ian moment! I was watching with a friend and blurted out, "Ooooh, that's Janis Ian!" It was pretty funny because I think I scared my friend too!
I'm hopeful lesbian vampires with show up, but I don't know....I've been let down before! We'll see.
Meh.
Honestly, her bare breasts can't make up for her terrible storyline and overly pretentious line delivery (unless that's just her way of upping the pretentiousness of the character, in which case, my distaste goes to the character). She sounds exactly like the character she played in Cloverfield, except with a bit less screaming. She looks hotter now, yes, but it's like she lost that edge that made her so great in Mean Girls...or no other writer she's worked with is as good as Tina Fey.
Now, Michelle Forbes being on the show? That, I can wholeheartedly endorse.

How awesome was that first moment you see her!!? I was like wha? and then i was like woohoo!! She is so cool, I have been watching her in 'In Treatment' as well, just such a great actress...
She is so hot!
SO hot.
ill admit it, True Blood is crap. But it's completely indulgent, hyper-sexual, did-i-really-just-witness-that-on-a-sunday-night? crap. which is why i absolutely cannot stop watching.
lizzy caplan's character is a crazy hippie bitch (did you see how mean she was to that pudgy gay vamp??), but good lord, she's hot. if i have to sit through her swimming naked through the forest just to see her naked, so be it. she brings a fresh of east coast (and non-accented!) fresh air to the show, and despite the fact that i think she's going to ruin jason stackhouse, im not objecting to more more more of her.

Throw in the fake accents and I get my dose of smut for the week vampire style.
Janis Ian!!!!
I had the Janis Ian moment too. I knew she was familiar but for a good portion of the show I just couldn't place her, then it hit me!
As for lesbian vampires, I am sure they will explore that. From what I had heard, Pam was/is supposed to be the gay vampire. I think from what we have seen she def. gives off that vibe, but I feel like they won't ever show her having sex with another woman, it will just be strictly a flirting kind of thing.

ookey I love Lizzy as an actor so when I first saw her in the show I where like WOW, it didn't mention it on Imdb so I where really suprised, but good suprised.
and about the show... I Love it, it's original, sexy and funny... and who dosen't like to see Anna Paquin with a southern accent and blonde hair?
and about a posible lesbian plot I think It's higly likley it's gonna be one...
I mean vampires are (or portrayed) like very sexual and erotic creatures. And a show like this when everyone sleeps with everyone it's a very big chanse it will turn up a lesbian plot.
*hope* *hope* *hope*
I love true blood.
I knew I knew her
I knew I knew her from somewhere! It was driving me crazy that I couldn't place her. Janice Ian! Fabulous.
BTW, True Blood is my new obsession. Sookie Stackhouse forever!
"I guess it's just because...
...I have a big, lesbian crush on you."
She's great. I'm glad to see her on True Blood.

Sarah Grasso
Caplan also played Katie Singer's (Mischa Barton's) girlfriend Sarah Grasso on Once and Again. It's a strong piece of work as she moves from being an cruel snot to Jessie (Evan Rachel Wood) to being a sympathetic character within one episode. She is aware that Katie has fallen in love with Jessie and her final scene in the episode "Tough Love", after Jessie has humiliated her (a brilliant multilayered scene touching on Jessie's lesbianism in bloom), is touching. A recognition that she is clinging to someone who has already left her in spirit and soon will in body.
Once & Again
Wow, so. Ironically it just
Wow, so. Ironically it just so happens I meandered randomly onto a particular site (cough*egotastic.com*cough), and they blogged about tru blood and the introducing of a new character played by Lizzy Caplan.
And lo and behold I come on here to find you guys blogging it too!
I've never seen the show, but I can say I've seen "parts of her" in a few clips.
Wow, I can't believe that was Janis Ian.
Lizzy, I would like to personally tell you that you probably have the best tits I've ever seen in my life. Ever.
Oh, and the straight girl side of me wants to say I love your hair on this show. Does anybody know how you get that kind of hair? Definitely not through rollers. A perm maybe? What kind?
She was great in
Love True Blood!!
My sister had the Janis Ian! moment alas I did not...but that Amy chick is freaking scary, more then any of the vamps...tree hugging psycho, and no the good kind :/
I want more Pam! She is hot vampirey goodness...the interactions between her & Sookie have my subtext juices flowing..lol
Marlena!!!!!
lizzy is hot and awesome... and I can't stress HOT enough. argh, I feel like a jerk to just say that she is hot... she is a great actress as well.

got Cloverfield? 1-18-08-underground.com does...trueblood
i expect a lesbian vampire because there already is one. Pam, underling of Eric, is gay in the books, and I've heard that they will be exploring that in the show. Whether or not they do it well is another matter all together.
I for one love True Blood. It's crazy. And Anna Paquin is in it. What more could you ask for?
I'm just happy that you
true blood
Hey, that's the girl from Cloverfield!
Huge fan of trueblood, I read about it in the tv guide book before the series started. So far I haven't seen any lesbian action with a vampire but my fingers are crossed.
