Lauren Lee Smith is cast as a rebel girl on "CSI"The beginning of the headline did not sit well with me: “CSI Replaces Jorja Fox.”
Excuse me? Replace Jorja Fox? Try replacing the sun in the morning sky, or the oxygen in the air we breathe, or Dana in Alice's bed.
OK, thinking about Dana in Alice's bed made me feel better. And the CSI producers must've been thinking along those same lines when they cast the newest forensic female, because starting next season, CSI will star none other than our favorite "soup" chef, Lauren Lee Smith.
Smith joins the cast next season as Bryce Adams, described as a “smart, flirtatious and witty nonconformist who is hired as a CSI on the night-shift team led by Grissom (William Peterson).” Just in case you’re behind on CSI casting news, this is the part that almost went to BSG’s Katee Sackhoff, who still can’t believe she didn’t get it.
Smith's character, Bryce, went into law enforcement as a way to rebel against her father, a “judgmental psychiatrist” (isn’t that redundant?) According to CBS, “she has always been fascinated by the perverse underbelly of society and cannot be shocked or intimidated.” Perverse underbelly of society? I need to watch CSI more often. Honestly, though, I’m not sure how I feel about Smith going to CSI. Part of my problem, admittedly, is that I heart Lara Perkins so much that I want to retain that image of Smith.
But that’s selfish, I know. And I have to let go of the soup chef anyway before the release of Helen, which stars Smith and Ashley Judd. Judd plays a music professor who suffers from depression and Smith plays a student who helps her cope. She could be the light at the end of my tunnel any day.
What do you think of Lauren Lee Smith joining CSI? Will we have to endure more ickyness with Grissom? Or dare we hope that she will be a perfect match for Willows? Submitted by on May 19, 2008 - 1:00pm. |

I was done with CSI after Jorja (finally) left. Love Sara, but the show was getting on my nerves.
Now they pull this...

I agree that the headline "CBS replaces Jorja Fox" is a terrible headline. As you said, there is no replacement for the dark haired CSI with the gap in her teeth.
however, i am excited to see what Lauren Lee Smith can do the role the of the "flirty" Bryce. Glad to see they at least found someone that I like! Should shake things up. I'm already excited to see what happens next season after the finale they put out this year!
No one can replace Jorja
No one can replace Jorja Fox, absolutely no one, but I really like Lauren Lee Smith and it's good to have some new blood on the show so I'll take it :D
With her, Lisa Vassey and Marg Helgenberger there's gonna be some seriously hot women on the CSI mothership so yeah, I'm this easy.
Oh Jorja how we miss thee
In my opinion CSI has always had the best looking and all around coolest cast on television (Condrad Eckley aside). Every single cast member is suave and smart as can be and boy do they turn heads. No one could ever replace Jorja, but we all know this is not their intention: they just are in need of some more estrogen on the show. Jorja we will miss you, but I might see you again next time I'm at Animal Acres :D
Oh and I don't think we should try to push Cath onto the lesbian train without some just cause. As much as a fan I am of female squared, I always wanted her to be with Warrick. Well first me...then Warrick.
As for Smith. Bring it on. We need some heat in this kitchen because CSI's ratings flame is going out.

I love how she steals every scene in Bionic Woman. I can just see her head-butting Catherine Willows and stepping on toes. Wait - that's Starbuck.
I've always liked Sara Sidle's damaged soul on the show. Katee Sackhoff can do that, I'm very sure of that.
Lauren Lee Smith - I like her, no doubt. But are the producers trying to add a cutesy factor to CSI now? Trying to add more eye candy?
I'm thinking the producers of CSI are trying to add a brighter character to the mix.
Wasn't Erin Daniels a guest star in CSI: New York? She's supposed to be a Detective Brennan from Chicago?

On the show, a waiter brings Dana food courtesy of the sous chef. Dana thought he said soup chef, instead. She was kind of known as the Soup Chef ever since.

LaraLaruen has always been my fav on L word from the very beginning. I HEART her so much. She's so beautiful and I think she is a wonderful actress. I'm stoked that I get to see her face again on my tv.I don't know how well she will be replacing Fox but one thing I know for sure is that she will play the flirty part to perfection. When Lara was flirting with Dana in the locker room, she had my heart popped out of my chest!

don't you watch the show? csi finished here in the uk last tuesday (20th may), and sara left nearly 3 months ago.
with the writers strike, the UK has caught up with most american programmes, and most finished about a week or so after the american season finale. or at least the ones i watch did.
or are you even behind the rest of the UK with shows being shown??
