Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed are set for gender reassignment in 2009In the category of “Is this a good thing?” Twilight actresses Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed will shoot another movie together, starting in January — playing men.
The movie, K-11, takes place in the section of the Los Angeles county jail that holds gay inmates, keeping them segregated from the general prison population. (“K-11” is the official classification for a gay inmate.) Stewart, who stars as Bella in Twilight, will play a boy and Reed, Twilight’s Rosalie, will play a 30-year-old man. Stewart’s mom, veteran script supervisor Jules Stewart, will direct. No word yet on the relationship, if any, between the two as prison inmates. Stewart described K-11 as a “comedy-drama" saying “… [The unit is] full of eccentric, crazy, off-the wall characters, and me and Nikki play two of them … It’s a really sweet but really screwed up family in there.”
According to Reed, her role will be quite a contrast to Rosalie: I’m going to be covered head-to-toe in tattoos. I’m going to be aged. I have scruff, I have [thicker] eyebrows and I’m a meth addict. Everything about my physical being right now will not be a part of that character. I’m not sure I want to see that kind of transformation of this kind of hotness.
The announcement of K-11 has fueled internet gossip boards that speculate on a closer-than-BFF relationship between Stewart and Reed. The women, who are quite affectionate in public, have provided much of the rumor-mill fodder themselves.
In an interview Reed did with About.com, for example, she said that she recently accompanied Stewart to the New Orleans set of Stewart’s next movie, Welcome to the Rileys. “I stayed there while she was shooting,” Reed said. “She’s actually coming back for two more days on Monday, and I’m missing all of my press next week so I can just go be with her, just because, like, that’s what life is all about, you know what I mean?” Well, Nikki, I know what it would mean if I dropped everything to go be with someone. But that’s just me.
Stewart has been dating actor Michael Angarano since she was 14. In fact, Reed, Stewart and Angarano (pictured below in the white T-shirt) often attend parties together. For some reason, though, that hasn’t quelled the Reed/Stewart rumors.
Although Stewart is less outspoken than Reed, photos like this one from the Vanity Fair photo shoot indicate that Kristen and Nikki are indeed, well, close.
The behind-the-scenes video shoot is even more fun for NikkiStew fans. If you knew nothing about Twilight, who would you guess is the main couple in the film?
This is all good, clean, lesbian fantasy of course. Reed and Stewart probably are a little too affectionate in public to be having an actual relationship, but that won’t stop our fun.

When you think about it, in 13, Evan Rachel Wood kinda looked like Kristen Stewart. I wonder if that was intentional on Nikki's part.

Why do they feel the need to cast two girls in the role of gay men??? I'm a little baffled, and might be missing the point...but aren't there any actual gay actors who would be better suited? Or even straight men willing to play gay?
Are things that bad that it's more acceptable to cast two females in the role of gay men than actually show two actual men being gay? I'm lost here. Since when did things starts sliding backwards so rapidly?

Would be useful to hear what the director has to say about the casting.
I would imagine these would present very challenging parts for young actresses to portray so I could see why they'd want to take it on.
Directors have used men many times to portray women even when the woman wasn't supposed to be a transexual woman. And ethinically "blind" casting is a long tradition in hollywood.
I'd be interested to see what they do wiht all this. If it's just a gimmick or if your really are meant to forget that the "actors" portraying these roles are female.
Might have been better to have kept that bit on the down low.
From what I understand, there ACTUALLY is a separate wing for gay and trans inmates for protection purposes in some housed of detention (LA County jail and Rikers until recently)

Um, why?
Two things:
Are the casting people confused about the difference between trans and gay? Because it might seem reasonable to cast women for an MTF (although I don't really see why they can't cast men as that - it worked for an FTM in Boys Don't Cry).
Am I the only one confused about the fact that they have a) a code for and b) a separate wing for gay men???
It's necessary
in prison to segregate certain people for certain reasons.
Certain groups are particularly targeted in prison.
Gays and Transgendered are targeted for hate crimes in the civilian world can you imagine them in the general population of a closed off area filled with a lot of violent criminals?
Prison is ugly, but to maintain order and safety of the inmates segregation is necessary.
There are many reasons people are segregated to include the type of crime, age, who the person is, etc. Here in Texas Yolanda Saldivar has to be kept from the general population for her own safety. (She killed the singer Selena) Often persons who used to be law enforcement, particularly officers, are segregated from the general population upon incarceration as well.
They're all safety issues. As for the labeling, that goes with the territory. Many governmental agencies* use coded labels as reference to certain people and groups. Such as Secret Service does for the president, his family, etc.
It would be different if the label were something like "Pillow Biters" or some other offensive term. The current usage is meant to be neutral and conducive to the safety of all residents of the state.

Anyhow, for this reason alone this film sounds really good-- when have we ever watched a film about this aspect of prison gay culture? It sounds so serious and yet one of the actresses describes it as comedy-drama...HUH?!

ok, don't hate on me, but i freaking LOVE michael angarano, kirsten's bf. ever since i saw him in the movie 'little secrets' (one of the best family movie EVER) with evan rachel wood, he has won me over. so i happily support his relationship with kirsten more than kirsten/reed, regardless how hot that combination could be. though i would rather she hook up with reed than with pattison, which is urgh... no.
so in conclusion, angarano > reed > pattison. the lesbian army can throw rotten eggs at me now. or take away my toaster oven. :D

I came here to say the exact same thing!! I became a fan of Michael after his stint as Jack's son on Will & Grace, and my adoration for him was reinforced after I saw him be so totally awesome in The Forbidden Kingdom.

There's been many interviews where Diablo has waxed lyrical about the magnificence of Ellen Page...while I don't think there's a sexual relationship there, certainly very strong bonds. But who knows? And Diablo does not define herself as het.

I just went to imdb.com and saw that Reed is 20 years old and Stewart is 18 years old. That is young. When celebrities start getting younger than me I always feel so old, like when I see Stewart's birth year: 1990. When you are born in 1990 you are still a baby, or no more than 10 years old. lol She is only 4-5 years younger than me, but still.
Hope to see more of these two in the future.

Kristen looks like Jodie Foster (which is why she played her daughter in "Panic Room") and Nikki totally made out with Evan Rachel Wood in "Thirteen" which was directed by the same woman who directed "Twilight". Nikki admitted to making out with tha ladies when she was younger so let's hope she and kristen are an item, it would certainly make my day.

P.S. i saw twilight this weekend and had they deleted that entire "what are you"..."i'm a vampire" segment, it would have been a good movie. The soundtrack is tha shiz though. Rob Pattinson (aka Edward Cullen) has a song on there called "Let Me Sign". It's fukkin awesome!

Update: I haven't been able to confirm this, but it looks like Kristen and Michael met when both were in Speak. Kristen was 14 when that was released, so I'm guessing the bio meant to say they'd been dating since SHE was 14.

i really like nikki reed and i LOVE kristen stewart, so the fact that they're together in anything, even if they're playing men, makes me happy. i like michael angarano too, he's kind of adorable, so i can't really complain if kristen is dating him. not that it will stop me from fantasizing about kristen/nikki though.
and kristen and nikki are both really hot in twilight. kristen makes bella a million times more likeable, and nikki is smoking hot when she's being a bitch. just thought i'd mention. =)

I'm always more than happy to revel in the delusion or fantasy that all of my favorite ladies in Hollywood are lesbians so if Kristen and Nikki choose to "tease" us ladies, I'm okay with that and if people want to think that they are together I'm even more okay with that and if they are together then hot damn, I'm great with that.
However, even if they are not together, I like both actresses and find that they have each done some really great work. I also have really enjoyed Michael Angarano's work and if he and Kristen are together, I'm okay with that as well... it still doesn't dissuade from my enjoyment of Kristen and Nikki acting so friendly (although given my age and given their age it does make me feel really old and kinda wrong to have any thoughts at all regarding these actors....).
I did enjoy seeing Nikki's playlist on iTunes Celebrity Playlist where she chose the Van Morrison song Madame Joy as one of her selections stating her reason as: "When I hear this song, I think of night shoots in New Orleans with Kristen, drinking espresso, and singing out of tune. We've decided that this will be the theme song at our wedding" Now tell me that doesn't just give more fodder to those persons that believe or want to believe the rumors?
