Jodie Foster sets her sights on "The Beaver"True story, swear to god. Jodie Foster is directing a film called The Beaver.
Let’s all take a few moments to indulge our inner 12-year-olds. It’s OK. If any normal, red-blooded lesbian tells you her mind didn’t go down to, um, the gutter when she read about this, she’s lying.
Better? Reuters reports that Foster is negotiating to direct and costar in The Beaver, an offbeat film about a depressed toy manufacturer who wears a beaver puppet on his hand — and treats it like a real person. Mel Gibson will play the beaver-handed man, Walter Black. This will be the first time Gibson and Foster, who will play Walter’s wife, have costarred since Maverick.
The Beaver sounds like a pretty interesting film, actually. The script was at the top of the 2008 “Black List” of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood and both Steve Carell and Jim Carrey expressed interest in playing Walter. And Foster and Gibson have been good friends for years — Foster was quick to defend Gibson when he made alleged anti-Semitic comments a few years ago. Although I am always hard-pressed to watch a role in which Jodie has the hots for a man, she and Mel always seem to have fun together.
This will be Foster’s first directing gig since 1995’s Home for the Holidays and she’s notoriously picky about her projects. So, I’m looking forward to seeing The Beaver. And for now, I’m going to quit trying not to giggle.
Does The Beaver sound like something you’ll get into? Give us your thoughts in the comments. And try to keep it clean, ladies. Submitted by on July 13, 2009 - 10:00am. |

I'll watch ANYTHING
oh yes anything with Jodie,
Yes..of course
"Does The Beaver sound like something you’ll get into?"
I think I've missed some
haha ill watch it just cause of the title
i dont know what it is about the word beaver that causes all lesbian women to giggle perfusely at themselves. lol. i think the hadest thing i have had to convince people of is trying to explain to my dirty minded freinds that when i said i was becoming a beaver leader i wasnt making a dirty comment. and trying to keep a straight face when saying it wasnt an easy task either, ;-) lol.
it does sound like a good flick though and i absolutely love mel gibson (and the lovely jodie of course) so i'll definately be watching it.
Who has the dirtier mind? Me for saying it... Or you for thinking it was meant to be dirty?
Sorry, my mind did not go where you thought
First, I was glad to see Jodie Foster in something again. I then was a bit distressed to see her hanging on a man's body again too...
Not a Mel Gibson fan.
As good as an actor as Foster is I just could not believe the romance she portrayed in The Brave One, and felt it really distracted from the story. In contrast, her powerful role as an unattached strong woman in The Inside Man was done incredibly well and believable, as all her best roles as an unattached woman in her films. If she is picky I really wish she'd stop with the heterosexual parts and at least be unattached since playing lesbian seems out of the question. Her spirit just does not seem to reach to play heterosexual.
I was disappointed to hear that Foster was personally asked by the author (Patricia Cornwell, an out lesbian) to portray Kay Scarpetta of the award-winning and enormously popular fiction series--and turned it down! Scarpetta is a heterosexual woman (but mostly unattached), strong, sharp, beautiful, powerful, and essentially raised her niece who is a lesbian. Many people, straight and otherwise have seen Foster in this role for years already, but she didn't want anything to do with it. Rumor has it that Foster turned down the role because of personality issues from Cornwell's behavior, but it is not substantiated. What a role that would have been for her though.
sorry but...
"Does The Beaver sound like something you’ll get into?" thats what she said!
anyway, the movie sounds good and i loved both mel and jodie in the maverick, so i'm in! :)

Ugh, love Foster but CANNOT
Ugh, love Foster but CANNOT STAND Mel Gibson.
I cannot stand sanctimonious people who think they can pass judgment on everyone else. It's one thing to be religious, it's another to tell everyone who doesn't share your faith - including your wife?! - that they are going to hell because they don't subscribe to your particular religious views. Ugh!
And to top it off, he has since left said wife to go on to impregnate a younger woman. Again, I don't usually judge people whose relationships break up - they do so for so many reasons, and people are imperfect - but if you have been out there casting judgment every which way and then go on to follow the age old middle-aged-man-trades-in-wife-for-younger-woman model, then you deserve some critical inspection.
Ugh, ugh, ugh. That's all I can say.
I like Jodie Foster enough to still possibly consider seeing this if/when it is released, but Mel Gibson will have to do a lot more that issue written apologies to get into my good books. Ugh.
If I was single
I have something she could set her eyes on!

Ok, glad I'm not the only one thinking that about the title lol
Must be good if she is in it...
Home For The Holidays
no can do
I would see the film except Mel Gibson is in it. I don't care how much Jodie Foster backs him up. Mel Gibson is an anti-semite and I refuse to support his career in any way.
hee hee
I don't know what cracked me up more:
Jodie Foster sets her sights on "The Beaver"
or
Does The Beaver sound like something you’ll get into?
I was right there with you until you mentioned Mel Gibson. I've kinda gone off him over the last few years. He's a good actor but I just can't get passed the fact that he seems to be stuck in a mid life crises and can't get up - he's certainly done the "leave the Mrs for a younger woman thing."
But then if it's going to have Jodie in it, I'll probably see it because she is another actress I'd watch reading the phone book.

I don't (knowingly) go
I don't (knowingly) go watch movies involving anti-Semitic trash. That's why I have been boycotting Gibson's output for some time now, and will continue doing so with this film. It's a shame because I like Jodie, and the premise sounds good.

*squee*
Jodie and Mel work so good together, can't wait to see the film.
Can't help dreaming about other co-star choices though...
:)
three way
I love this pic
Oh my. They were so the hot cute stuff back in the 90's. Still love them to some degree.
I wonder what was Jodie thinking?
As for this movie, I hope everything works out for JF. I'm not sure about the premise but I'm interested.
Not a Mel fan, but the
Not a Mel fan, but the premise sounds so interesting! And Jodi directing it will do it justice. Glad she picked such a good story, I just wish she picked Jim Carrey as well. I love when he does serious roles!

I'm not a fan of Mel G. as
I'm not a fan of Mel G. as a person, either, but he's pretty good as an actor. And any excuse to have Jodie Foster in another movie is good for me.
The film itself sounds really entertaining to me. Like, "40-Year-Old Virgin" entertaining. I really hope they change the name though, for publicity reasons. I'd feel awkward saying I want two tickets to 'The Beaver'.
I don't know what it is
I don't know what it is but: Jodie Foster has it in spades. Mel Gibson is a jerk, he not only makes anti Semitic cracks but; some really ugly hate filled anti gay remarks. The ones I read about were years ago at the height of his alleged popularity and were directed at gay men. To me anti gay boy or anti gay girl is anti gay.
I don't like him never have, but Jodi sees something (who knows what???) if I have to endure him in order to enjoy her, crappy task but; someone has to do it.
You never know maybe he'll be in jail at shooting time and Jodie will get an actual human being to play the part. There's always hope.
Oh and PS I thought I read somewhere that Jodie went back to Sydney - does anyone know if that is true????
