"ER" revived one last timeA sad thing happened to me last Thursday. ER returned with new episodes — and I forgot. Granted, tornadoes were swirling through town at the time, but I didn't even remember to be irritated that bad weather always seems to strike during prime time. For someone who has watched ER faithfully since its first year, apathy is a bad sign. So, I have mixed feelings about the show coming back for one final season.
I'm not sure what happened to my fandom. After all, Maura Tierney's still around.
Considering all that her character Abby Lockhart has been through, that's quite a feat. Alcoholism, bipolar mom and brother, failed marriage, medical school, unplanned pregnancy, life-threatening childbirth — reading Abby's Wikipedia entry is exhausting. Maybe that's part of the problem. When Abby and Luka's baby, Joe, survived his premature birth, I thought that perhaps the writers would let Abby be happy at last. Not even close. Since then, Luka has fallen prey to a bitter former patient; Joe has fallen off a jungle Jim; Abby has fallen off the wagon and into bed with the ER chief. Is more pain for Abby really necessary? As for the other characters, Neela wore out her welcome with me last season, despite Parminder Nagra's adorability.
Neela always came through brilliantly in surgery, of course, but her personal life was a mess. And, honestly, can you picture such a beautiful, intelligent woman with either Tony or Ray? Especially when, for much of the show's run, Abby was right there in the next bedroom. Still, ER has given us some great moments. Like Kerry and Kim.
And Kerry and Sandy.
And Kerry and Courtney.
Wouldn't it be great if those two came back for Season 15 to say goodbye (and demonstrate that sometimes lesbian couples can live happily ever after)? That would be enough to get me to watch again. How about you? Do you still watch ER? What characters would you like to see return for the last season? Submitted by on April 21, 2008 - 11:19am. |

I thought it had ended
I used to love watching ER, but I gave up on it a few seasons ago.
To be honest, I did not even know it had not ended yet.
Maybe 15 seasons of the same show is a bit much.

-Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
Who doesn't blog these days?
Yeah, I still watch.
But only for Abby, and Neela.
And I couldn't agree with you more, havn't Abby suffered enough?!
I can't even think straight...
Abby and Neela.
ER
I still watch and honestly I'm pretty bummed to hear that next season is the final season. I mean, the ratings are still good the last time I checked -- Why not keep it going?
Despite Abby and Neela's twists and turns, I still feel it is one of the best-written shows on TV. The 'bad boy' characters really wear thin on me though. And, oh yay, we were introduced to yet another one since it's return this month. I guess Greg does have to have someone to clash with, but enough already. Make it another strong, bold female character rather than these womanizing 'playboy' men who believe they are God's gift to the ER.
Carter returning may be interesting, I guess. I just hope we don't have to sit through episode after episode of Doctors Without Borders in Darfur. ER did do a lot to bring awareness to the crisis there, but the episodes just sucked. I was never a huge fan of Carter and the episodes focusing on him, along with them sucking in general, made me nearly stop watching the show.
_________
ER is the only interesting
ER is still AWESOME!
Abby is hot
I love that charater but i think they should bring backCarol Hathaway.
I loved looking at her and her hair.
Carol
Abby is always hot!
Funny enough I watched ER when it first aired, before my favourite Actress got role of Abby Lockhart in Season 6... How much joy is that, I enjoyed ER but even better hearing one of the hottest women (My taste) to be in it... Maura Tierney.. Uh... *Goes for a cold shower*
Mmmmmmmmmmmm-Maura!
My girlfriend loves Elizabeth Mitchell who played Kim Legaspi... She's a bit of an alright too!
out of nostalgia only
I'm gonna be
sad when this show is really going to be over for good. I'm watching it since the beginning and this week the show's 14th season is going to start here in germany.
This is pretty much the only show which I continued watching, despite it sometimes often changings in the cast. Even when I didn't like one of the newbies, there was still the other one(s) I did like. Back in the old days I liked Julianna Margulies and totally disliked Maura Tierney's character, when she was new on the show. I guess I was just bitter about Nurse Hathaway leaving lol..but soon enough Maura Tierney became - and still is - one of my fav.
SAM!!!
Lindsay WeirSam! (in the continued absence of one carol hathaway, naturally). sigh...Yep, still a faithful fan
Even after nearly 15 years. The story lines may not always be as good as they used to be, but the show is still very enjoyable. I've always liked the fact that the show changed it's cast, it stayed more realistic that way since no doc really stays in the same hospital all their life.
I was a big fan of Carol Hathaway myself, sadly I think the chances of her coming back in the 15th season are slim. Since Juliana Margules has got her own show "Canterbury's Law" on Fox. Well, maybe if it tanks.
And I agree on the Abby thing, give her a break already she's been through enough, if there was one character on ER who deserved a happy ending she would be it, so that's my hope.
Actually I hope Abby comes back from Croatia soon it's been kind of boring without her, I can only take so much of Pratt!. I do like Sam and Gates though, I think they'll be good as the next resident couple. I also think it would be cool if Kerry Weaver came back for a few more eps in the last year, but somehow I don't think that's likely to happen.
Hello, where have i been,
ER is still on television?
Who knew?
I was hooked on this show the first time I watched it. (Which actually took a while because I was constantly falling asleep during that HUGE commercial break in the middle of Seinfeld.)
My favorite was the head nurse (hold on-I have to look up her name)...Julianna Margulies! I also really liked Gloria Reuben, William H. Macy, and CCH Pounder.
Those first few years were glorious!
But, alas, it started to suck (in my opinion), so I stopped watching it :-(
Who the hell are all those people in that cast picture?!
;-)
so done
I loved this show. i actually remember Julianna and George reuniting on that show; going to bed late to watch this show even though i had school the next day but man i've had enough. I gave up at the end of last season. I though NBC was going to move on to something new. Even Lipstick Jungle is more interesting at this pont.
Bury it soon.
I've been done
for a few seasons. I just got bored. I thought John Stamos could pull me back in (he is neither female nor lesbian but I've always had a serious boy crush on him) but he couldn't. I just don't care anymore. Good actors but it's time to move on.
Clinging To Life!
I think that ER should have ended a long time ago. Fifteen seasons is a little too much! I'm amazed that they could keep coming up with new ideas for that long. There are so many hospital shows on right now, it's crazy...
I stopped watching when Julianna Margulies left. That's not long, really!
I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art. - Madonna
So sad, just let sleeping
ER Is Dead to Me
I watched for several years and then about 2 or 3 seasons ago I started to notice that the storylines were being repeated from years past. The character involved may have changed, but the dialog and situation were the same. I watched up until Weaver left out of loyalty for the one lesbian character on television, but then I just couldn't take it anymore.
Now, if somehow Kerry and Kim had their own spinoff, that's another story. :-)
STAT!
I've loved ER for years but for some reason this year I am not getting into it. I think one of the things is all the stuff going on with Abby. Give the girl a break, let her have some happiness with Luka and Joe. I've been disappointed with Neela's story line as well.
The obnoxious men aren't helping things either. This new one has no redeeming qualities that I can see so far.
I enjoyed Carter and kind of miss him. I really enjoyed when he was having the 'fling' with Glenne Headley's Pediatric Surgeon character, Dr. Abby Keaton
There were a lot of great characters and stories on the show, I was remeniscing as I was looking on IMDB for Glenne Headley's character name. It would be fun to go back and watch it from the beginning. I loved those characters, Benton, Mark Greene, Susan Lewis, Carol and Doug, Jeannie Boulet. Ahhhhhhhhh memories.....
ER lost me
i fell off the ER train two, maybe three, years ago. i hung on because of the Abby/Luka storyline but after Dr.Green died the show just went downhill in my opinion. Then alll the original characters
started leaving, and when Carter left that was the end for me.The show is nothing like it was.
i don't care for any of the new characters and the storylines are not as good as they were.
They just kind of overhauled it without any kind of warning. it's time for ER to be over.
i might watch the last episode just for closure.
I used to watch ER
I love ER but when all the original character left the show,i watch it less and less and finally stop watchking it even I like Parminder Nagra who's very adorable in "Bend it likes Beckham".
I feel a little bit sad for the show coz i hope some of the main character would return to the show. I really want Noah Wyle back to ER before he left i want him be with Abby (I'm a Carby fan), i know Thandi's also awesome but i prefer Maura ^__^
When I watched ER i was so in love with Maria Bello as Dr.Anna Del Aminco and Jorja Fox as Dr.Maggie Dolye (before her Sarah Sidle role)
Oh i forgot Sherry Stringfield as Dr Susan Lewis.
I was wondering when someone
I was wondering when someone was going to mention Sherry Stringfield. I was head-over-heels in love with her back in the day -- she was gorgeous and I loved her voice. I loved her and Dr. Lewis ...
As pure eye candy, I also have to agree with Maria Bello as Dr. Del Amico and Maura Tierney as Abby Lockhart. And, of course I loved Dr. Doyle's attitude.
I used to watch ER religiously, to say the least. When it was on, no one could talk to me until a commercial came on, I used to host ER parties in college, and I had an ER collage of pictures and articles that spanned the front and back of my door! I even remember the episode that hooked me -- it was called Blizzard. I don't, however, remember when I stopped watching it. I know I got sick of the story lines -- I remember Dr. Greene dying and the Dr. Weaver/Dr. Legaspi story line as well, but that's about it. It just got to be too over the top for me. I remember the novelty about it being that it was so "realistic," but once that was gone and the soap opera-like story lines started, they lost me. Being a Sherry Stringfield fan, I did try to get into it again when she returned, but sadly it just wasn't enough.
One last thing -- I never appreciated Julianna Margulies' beauty or talent until her new show. Sacrilege, I know.
Yes! Dr Lewis.
I remember the first time I watched ER Dr Lewis was my favourite, she was gorgeous as you've already mentioned. I loved Dr Lewis's personality and ofcause her voice. When she left in season3 i was sad and when she did return at the beginning of season12 i was glad but i didn't know why i wasn't in love with Dr Lewis anymore. Maybe i was older or Dr Anna Del Amico was in my heart until now i'm still in love with Dr Del Amico.
I have the first 6 season of ER dvds. My favourite is season 4 as you know Anna was in this season.
Last but not least, i never appreciated Julianna Margulies' beauty or talent in the role of nurse Hattaway too.
I stopped watching...
when I saw that Abby fell off the wagon (YET AGAIN) and slept with the jerk boss... I lost all my interest there. I don't know why I can't seem to get into it again, even though I've also watched all 14 seasons eagerly. I only returned after they killed off Sandy, because of my faith in the writers to give Kerry a nice and stable relationship, and because I hoped and prayed that it would be with Abby! there was a moment there in season 13 I think, that they really bonded and became close, so I was hoping there was something there than just my twisted imagination...
But I guess I'll tune in for the last season. Just to see who turns up again. I really hope it's nurse hathaway!!!

why cancelled? nooooo!
i didn't realise it was being cancelled until i read this just now! gutted!!
why cancel it? 15 years is not too long for this show to run. with an ever changing cast, and storylines, it's sustainable.
look at our very own Casualty! well for those in the uk, it's ours, hehe! it's been going for 22 years and still going strong, er is a baby compared to this!
although i'm not keen on tony, i could so see him and sam getting together. i just hope they stay together, if only to see a lot more of sam... what can i say, i think linda cardellini is hot, when i saw her in scooby doo in that red catsuit, i think i drooled!!
is it just me that thought there was some chemistry between sam and abby?? or wishful thinking on my part?
now that Jorja Fox isn't in csi, could they please bring back Maggie Doyle for the last season?? PLEASE! i need my jorja fix!
there have been some great storylines, like when they killed off lucy. not her being killed off, but the way it happened, and the aftermath carter faced.
romano having his arm chopped off by a helicopter, trying to cook his reattached arm (if you've seen it, you'll get the scene i mean!) and then him losing it, and then having a helicopter land on him! oh, and then kerry using the money he left to the hospital to fund the gay and lesbian medical program, i found that so funny, such a smack in the face to the homophobe!
good times! if it's definitely the last season (ie, no save er campaigns, etc) i will indeed miss it.
