Elizabeth Mitchell signs up to kick alien butt for ABC in "V"

Let me say, right up front, that I am going to talk about the season finale of Lost. Not a lot, mind you, but enough that you need to move along now if you haven’t seen it and don’t want to be spoiled. Got that? To clarify: Spoilers ahead.

While you’re gathering your things, the rest of us will gaze at Elizabeth Mitchell.

Still deciding? Take your time.

OK. Let’s talk. I’ve been one pretty ticked off lesbian since the Lost finale. I mean, Juliet’s fate is still unknown, but how could the writers even consider blowing up Elizabeth Mitchell?

Today at the ABC upfronts, however, Steve McPherson made it all better. The network has picked up a remake of the 1980s miniseries V with Mitchell as a series regular. She’ll play Erica Evans, a kick-ass FBI agent trying to protect her son from a particularly pesky alien habit: eating people.

A few clips from V showed up online today and I think the show has promise. In the first, the alien leader Anna (Morena Baccarin) introduces herself via a makeup commercial.

The second features Anna’s first television interview. Reporter Chad Decker is played by Scott Wolf, who must have an aging portrait of himself stashed away somewhere.

Lest you think that V settles the issue of whether Juliet is dead, McPherson added this. “[Elizabeth Mitchell is] a fantastic actress, and we’re thrilled to be able to have her do both [Lost and V] … you’ll see her on Lost, but V is her next piece.”

Of course, in the world of Lost, that could mean anything, from surviving the blast to jumping into another time. But I’m not so worried about what happens to Juliet now. I’ll still be seeing plenty of Elizabeth Mitchell.

Does V look like your kind of show? Do you think Mitchell’s role seals Juliet’s fate on Lost?

    Elizabeth MITCHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL!

So love her. Was SO in tears at the finale. God Juliet is awesome.

Thanks for the article, will be checking this show out for sure!

    Wow..

It's very rare when I actually get excited for a tv show, but this is one that I cant wait for now after watching those clips.

I think the show could be amazing if it's done right and this is one that i'll be watching when it airs.

    I'm.....

I'm definitely intrigued. looks like it has potential.

I love her, can't wait to see more of her!

Really, my obsession with her on ER/that awful show "The Beast" should have been a big "you're a lesbian" wakeup call.

    It looks interesting

-- and I hope it will be well-written, etc. I'm not a Lost fan (at all), but I've had a soft spot for Elizabeth Mitchell since I saw Gia and my inner nerd (which is also my outer nerd) is hopping up and down squeaking on account of Morena Baccarin.

I lovelovelove '80s mini series, though, so there is a risk I'll get distracted by the original and then get all purist... as usual.

Maybe it's a sin, but I never got too into "Lost."  (Although the little I watched made me fall in love with Yujin Kim!)

But I'm super excited for this because of Morena Baccarin.  She was GORGEOUS in Firefly.  (And of course, the episode "War Stories" had that lovely scene between Inara and woman).  I really think Morena is very talented.  The short hair is a little bit to get used to, but I think Morena will be so great in this.

    Sass's picture

    She's good!

Great news for Elizabeth, I guessed she wouldn't be totally out of lost but it was still an upsetting end...plus I have her as my wallpaper ;)

    I remember V

Back in the 80's I was a little kid when V originally aired.  I was terrified!  So now I'm looking forward to seeing it and actually understanding the storyline.

And for a blonde, Elizabeth Mitchell is HOT.

    I've never seen V

I've heard of it, but have never seen it.  Well, with my girl Liz in the show, I'll be watching this V(ersion).

If I was a teenager again, I would SO have Liz's posters on my wall.  Jeez, she is stunning.

    Just...jeez.

    the linster's picture

    Wait...

You have to be a teenager to have posters of her on the wall?!
    Jodielee3's picture

    HA!

    That made me LOL....

[also... I'm so crushing on her and Evangeline right now.... *sigh*]

V is about 3 years before my time but my mum went 'oooooh' when i mentioned it. She seemed to think it was alright back then, hehe.

    Ohh Elizabeth Mitchell...

I don't care what the show is, if she's there, so am I.  She was the reason I finally started watching LOST.  Hopefully the new show does well.  As I said before, I don't care what shes on, as long as she's where I can see her.  :)  swoon

    Loved Her Since Gia

Never Heard of V ...looks interesting I'm a Sci-Fi geek will tollaly watch Elizabeth & hot aliens.

    Sue's picture

    I'll definitely give V a whirl...

You quoted Steve McPherson as saying that we'll see Elizabeth on Lost and V.  That tells me that 'Juliet' will be a small part of the last season of Lost.

    >> Spoiler if you haven't watched Lost finale...

If Jack's plan (well it was really Faraday's plan) worked, then none of the Lost characters will have met and the original plane will have landed safely.  If that's so, then Juliet's character would not be a big part as she was not on the plane.  But she still would have been a researcher on the island... so it may just be a matter of tying up loose ends...

If his plan didn't work... well...

Having said that...  I look forward to watching Elizabeth on V.  She's why I started watching Lost midway during Season 3.  V looks promising... Mulder would be out of his mind if he had aliens speak to him like that!!

    fallon ash's picture

I wanna like it, I really do...

I adore Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin, and so I wanna like this, I really really do, but it freaks me out a little to see Inara so... menacingly detatched. I'm gonna have to wait a few episodes and read some reviews before I can decide if I should watch or not.

(Also, is that Ed Rocker at 0:13-0:14 in the first clip? Cool!)

    OMG ! OMG ! OMG !

    I LOVE V!

    I LOVE ELIZABETH MITCHELL!

There is a God! And he loves me!

I was addicted to the original V TV series. I loved Jane Badler as the scheming alien Commander, Diana. She was soooooo gay! Honestly! It was brilliant.

I'm so happy it's back! The fact that EM is in it, is just gravy...

    Emma's picture

    Excellent!

Definitely watching this show. I haven't been able to get enough of Elizabeth since she started on Lost. And I know Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk are going to be on the show as well so since I'm a Browncoat, anything Firefly-related is an automatic win in my book. And science fiction anything is fantastic, can't wait to see how this show pans out.

You know you're getting old when...

You know you're getting old when they start making remakes of things you remember from the first time...

I loved V back then. The miniseries, anyway. The series afterwards might have gone on a bit longer than they had good storylines for. It'll be interesting to see V in a modern jacket. And it'll be interesting to see Elizabeth Mitchell, period. :p

    I heart V

I loved the original V series as a kid and I just finished re watching them.

Not sure how to feel about a remake. I mean, it all sounds and looks pretty awesome, but it's not the same as the cool dated eighties series I love.

how could it have ended like that????!!!! horrible cliffhanger

and i'm not even mentioning what happened to the main reason i keep watching the show (miss mitchell's character)... nasty lost writers!!! gaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!

    LuvSong's picture

    Liz Mitchell yummy!!!!

     Love You, LuvSong

Love me some E. Mitchell... She is a gifted and very talented actress ... I fell in love with her  in ER and GIA she was my Queen. I am looking forward to V I was really young, so I didn't understand and a bit scared... But I am all grown up and wait'n to she my eye candy. Wouldn't it be great if LIZ and Morena  were together on the show... food for thought. And LOst, I am so disappointed, On Lost, loosing Elizabeth Mitchell is a total Lost.

    DblAgent M's picture

    yikes!

I was just a kid when the original "V" aired, so I don't recall much of it other than it completely scared the s**t out of me!  Knowing that Elizabeth Mitchell has been cast in the remake, maybe I'll be brave enough to give it a shot this time around...maybe.
    blunt spoon's picture

    WHY?!

WHY WHY WHY remake something that was great in the beginning?  Jesus.  Doesn't anyone in Hollywood have any imagination anymore?  What a waste of time.
    kallisti's picture

    Empathy

I'm forever gnashing my teeth at crappy remakes of all my favourite old mini series (from between 15 to 45 years ago), so I'm not really trusting Hollywood with this, even though I haven't seen the original V. But I will probably be searching it out very soon so that I can be ready to gnash my teeth and curse its remake to hell if need be.

I seriously don't think they have any imagination anymore. Television in the UK is exactly the same -- maybe worse, because they're so out of ideas that they resort to DIY programmes -- and it hurts.

You should definitely check out the original V Lallisti. I recommend it. It is awesome.

    I was really upset about

I was really upset about the uncertainty of Juliet's fate in Lost. I mean, on one hand I'm pretty certain she's kicked the bucket... but on the other hand, it's Lost - and you never know. However, with this new show, I'm leaning more towards that she's really actually gone on Lost. I'd never heard of V before this, but maybe I'll give it a try. Anything with Elizabeth Mitchell in it is worth a shot, haha! (If it gets too scary though, like comments here are implying, then I'm gone. XD.)

Plus, Morena Baccarin is awesome. Firefly, anyone? :)

    LogLady's picture

    You know the main reason....

....that they even killed off juliet was b/c mitchell was signed on to do this show right??

apparently the show makers didn't really want to kill her off (at all) but when she was cast in V they had to do something to make her less 'there' clearly she can and will be in the final season, but not all 13 episodes...

just makes me wish she was almost LESS awesome so she wouldn't be leaving lost, but then i remember that she could now be on my TV for far longer than just one more season!!!

    MJNuts's picture

    Ok.

Ok, Linster. Now you're gonna have to give me your phone number or send me an e-mail or just simply marry me! Not only do you like Lost AND Elizabeth Mitchell, but you make a reference to The Portrait of Dorian Gray as well? All in about 15 lines?

We are meant to be. Seriously, give it a try. I promise I'll be good. :) Or naughty, if you want. I'm flexible. 8)

    garanger's picture

    Excellent!

Loved Elizabeth Mitchell since I saw her in Gia. Also watched the original "V" when it first came out, and got really into it. Looking forward to EM and V together!!

But who will replace Meg Foster's eyes?

I was a kid when the original aired and loved it though in hindsight I realize that a lot of it's larger themes went way over my head.  It wasn't the lizard thing that scared me so much as the icy grey eyes of Meg Foster.  I had nightmares about those for months after.

Meg Foster was in V?  She definitely wasn't in the mini-series.  Was she in the TV series?

    Squee!

Elizabeth Mitchell is pretty much one of the nicest people I've ever met. I don't watch LOST, but her husband teaches improv at my school and my class got to meet her. I'm really excited about this show. 1-because it's totally awesome, 2-Elizabeth is totally awesome, and 3-I might be able to do a job-shadow on set of the show!!!! Soooo excited!!!!! I think it's being filmed in Vancouver...

    Best Mini-series of ALL TIME

I was like 12 when V first came out.  I vividly remember EVERYONE I knew tuning in to the mini-series each night it was shown.  Seriously, people dropped what they were doing, re-arranged their schedules, turned the phone ringer off--they were all glued to the television set.  V was not just a mini-series, it was an outright phenomenon. V was a way of life!  It was so successful that a TV series was spun off, but it was HORRIBLE & didn't last a single season.  I own V (the original) and the follow-up V: The Final Battle on DVD.  To this day, I can watch it over and over again.  The fact that all these years later, there is still a market for V proves its staying power. Sure, the effects are outdated now, but they were great in '83.  Plus, Jane Badler was the ultimate villainess as Diana. I have been waiting for the new version for YEARS & will definitely tune in!

I recommend renting both V's for anyone who has never seen it.  And, to all you V fans:  PRETENAMA!!!

    Elizabeth sightings!

I definitely saw Elizabeth Mitchell on the ferry going over to Bainbridge Island on Friday. Our eyes met briefly and she gave a half smile and I pretty much melted into a puddle right there.

    I will not stop.
    I will not slow down.

    I will win.

    Elizabeth Mitchell

Have loved Elizabeth Mitchell since Gia. Gorgeous woman. Very glad her career continues to prosper. Loved V when it first aired. Oh my. Just watched V trailer. Wow. It looks the business. To be honest I can't really remember the detail of the original series, just the FEAR!  It was an event back then, no doubt about that.
