Update: “Dead Like Me” movie casting news

Now that shooting for Dead Like Me is a wrap, MGM has released casting news for the movie. As expected, all the original cast is back except for Mandy Patinkin (Rube) and Laura Harris (Daisy Adair).

Ellen Muth returns as George Lass, who’s as comically cynical about death as she was about life. George narrates the movie, just as she did the series.

Replacing Laura Harris, who has a lead role in ABC’s Women’s Murder Club, as Daisy Adair is Sarah Wynter, perhaps best known as the perpetually shocked Kate Warner on season 2 of 24. (A trivia tidbit: Harris played Warner's sister, Marie.)

Henry Ian Cusick, Desmond on Lost, plays a new character named Cameron, the head reaper who replaces Rube. Speculation that the movie includes a boyfriend for George’s sister, Reggie (Britt McKillip), has not been confirmed.

I can never get enough Cynthia Stevenson and I loved her character Joy, George’s mother, on Dead Like Me. I can’t wait to see her again.

And the fabulous Jasmine Guy returns as Roxy, the kick-ass meter maid you don’t want to face in traffic court. Watch her in action here.

As scribegrrrl reported earlier, the movie’s success could lead to a resurrected Dead Like Me series. All in favor, buy the DVD. It’s due next summer.

This is totally on my radar too. I came to Dead Like Me late, but I did get hooked and love it! Plus I have a friend who collects SF show memoribilia and she's met Muth, so there's that six degrees to add to the mix as well.

    Can't wait

I wish they could have brought back Laura Harris (she and Muth played well off each other) but otherwise I hope this does for Dead Like Me what I wish Serenity could have done for Firefly (at least the movie gave us closure).

    Quite Cool!

    Will buy when I can!

I almost wish they'd just get a new reaper, and not recast Daisy, as when they replaced Rebecca Gayheart's character. The loss of Rube will be felt, but hopefully the entire attitude of the show can continue. Dolores, Murray, and Crystal will all hopefully be back. Oh...and maybe the pet reaper; although that could be a problem, depending on how old the kid is.

For those not familiar with the show, check out the following for a quick intro: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wHBQcAM_mDI

    Henry Ian Cusick

It says above that Henry Ian Cusick's character on Lost, Desmond, met a watery end on Lost.  That was Charlie who met the watery end. Desmond is still on Lost.

    You're right

My aging memory had both Charlie and Desmond drowning -- that'll teach me to trust it. We'll get it corrected. Thank you!

    Delores Herbig brown eyes

I saw someone posted that she was going to make an appearance but I can't seem to find a confirmation of that anywhere. Is she in it? An interesting sidebar - I saw the pilot for a show called Reaper for the CW network. It was a little like Dead Like Me crossed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not anywhere close to Dead Like Me in writing. Anyway, in that show the Reaper was to recapture escaped souls from Hell and deliver them to someplace. In this episode, it was the Department of Motor Vehicles office. The person who accepted the souls from the Reaper was the actress who plays Delores Herbig. She was one of the reasons I liked Dead Like Me. Her character got funnier in every episode. I think it's crazy for the CW to do a new Reaper show when they could have just picked up Dead Like Me which already had an audience.

    Delores

Since I am here to serve, I poked around some more and found some pictures Ellen Muth posted from the movie set. Assuming they're legit, Christine Willes is indeed back as Delores. http://www.ellen-muth.com/forum/ On a related note, I read a great comment suggesting that they make Delores a reaper. Oh, the possibilities... Too bad they didn't make her the new head reaper!

But why won't it be in theaters?

    Happy!

Dead Like Me was one of my favorite series. I'm looking forward to the movie, but I'll miss Rube.

    Reggie/Britt McKilip

I went to middle school with Britt McKilip. She was in my drama class. She missed it half the time due to her acting. She's not very smart. I once made a joke about her having had botox to the entire class. I feel kind of bad about it all.

I can say that Britt McKillip is in the movie. Dead like Me. They were filmingin Montreal and I saw her. She filmed the same scene all day for 2 days
