"Damages" courts Lily Tomlin

If you’re searching for a sign of intelligent life in television, look no further than this latest big of casting news. Next season’s nemesis for Damages’ Cruella-like attorney Patty Hewes will be played by our favorite multiple-personality lesbian, Lily Tomlin.

FX announced this week that Tomlin will guest star on Damages’ third season as the head of a powerful family. Campbell Scott will play her son and Martin Short will be the family’s “high-powered attorney.”

Yes, that Martin Short.

Damages resumed production this week after Close racked up her second Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for the role of Hewes. Last year, Close became the first actress from a basic cable series to win the award.

Tomlin, believe it or not, turned 70 on September 1 and isn’t slowing down one iota. She has a full slate of live shows scheduled in addition to TV and movie appearances. And, of course, she never tires of making women go a little gay.

I can’t wait to see Tomlin and Close butt heads on screen. And I’m secretly hoping that Tomlin’s character is somehow connected to the telephone company.

    70!?!

    She looks amazing. I'd be watching anyways but I just got a little happier about it. 

    I adore Martin Short - my fellow canadian - I think he's just as talented doing drama as he is doing comedy.

    I'm with you - 70!? She looks freakin' AMAZING for her age!! Dang, that's insane!! I might tune and watch the ep. I'm not a regular watcher of Damages, so I definitely have no idea what's going on!! Haha

    love lily.  and LOVE me some damages.  the show is just so good on every level...and it's refreshing to see two women--glenn close and rose byrne--be the driving force of a smart television show.  lily, ms. close, and the lovely and absolutely brilliant rose byrne, are going to make me very, VERY, happy this season:)

    The only thing I don't like about this show is that it's not on enough. I hope Lily Tomlin's character is the big ugly of the season. I would love to see Close go up against a woman.

    i watched the first season of damages and most of the second but i wasn't going to watch the third, until now! i love lily tomlin and because of her i'm defiantly going to watch the new season :)

    Glenn Close plays such a great role in this show. I think this is one of the best shows on local cable tv. Every season has had alot of indepth story lines and really great suspence, action and drama.

    I just got back from seeing Lily Tomlin live at the Paramount! It was a witty, fast-paced and laugh out loud show, with a dash of gay! 

    I can't wait to see her back on tv!
