Chandra Wilson returns to "Grey’s," on both sides of the camera

All together now: Whew!

EW.com reported welcome news for Grey’s Anatomy fans yesterday: Chandra Wilson has signed on the dotted line to continue playing Dr. Miranda Bailey.

I’m not sure why Shonda Rimes and company waited so long to finalize the deal, since Dr. Bailey is the most entertaining character at Seattle Grace. I mean, please — the woman brought “va-jay-jay” into our consciousness. The word, I mean.

Wilson also is about to become the first Grey’s cast member to direct an episode. No word yet on story details, but this will be the actress’ directorial debut. If Wilson directs anything like Bailey commands the hospital, we should be in for a treat.

The new season of Grey’s Anatomy premiers on September 24. If you want to refresh your memories of any Calzona scenes in the meantime, you can catch the last few episodes of Season 5 on Hulu.

In other Grey’s news, Ausiello asked Melissa George if she might return next season as Sadie Harris, given the fact that the show seems to have some openings for cast members.

"I don't think so," Melissa said. "I think she did so much damage that she needs to go."

Since I can barely remember anything about Sadie, I guess it doesn’t take much.

That did get me to thinking, though. Now that we know who’s coming back to Grey’s Anatomy, who would make a good addition to the cast? Any ideas?

    really, without dr bailey there wouldn't be such a thing as grey's anatomy. she's my favourite, period.

    she makes the whole show lol now that izzie and george are gone im pretty sure i wouldnt watch if she left.

    I thought one of them would be staying? I know George is definitely leaving so I assumed Izzie would stay. Not that I care I hate Izzie and Alex.

    Izzie Died Last Season So She Isn't Coming Back Unless Shes A Ghost Even Though I Have No Idea Why George Is Leaving He Said That His Character Wasnt Being Developed They Tried To Kill You Doesn't That Say Something

    Really!? Do they need more cast members? Their so many cast already and not enough screen time for some of them like Callie and Arizona. Their great actors but they only have less than 5 mins of screen time together ( that's putting it mildly). Their story is not being represented properly like heterocouples.

    Umm, There was never any question that Bailey was coming back. The ENTIRE cast were all waiting to get their letters saying their contracts were renewed not just Chandra and she said as much in interviews so I don't know why anybody thought the show was getting rid of her. The only actor that everyone knew for sure wasn't coming back was TR Knight because he wanted out. And Micheal Ausiello also reported on Jessica Capshaw being added as a regular a whole month before it was made official.

    Chandra Wilson said she wasn't sure herself, so I just took her at her word. In the world of Grey's, nothing is assumed.

    I'm not calling her a liar. She wasn't sure. Neither was the rest of the cast as to their contracts. They all get them around the same time. She wasn't the only one so there was really no need to worry about Bailey being let go. That's all I was saying. It was always going to be TR since he's wanted out since the beginning of last season.

     bailey is my favourite character and the moreshe is included the better.  I love the relationship she has with her students but also the chief.  I hope she stays as long as the show stays top of its game

    I say Famke Janssen should be the new lead cardiovascular surgeon at Seattle Grace and Peter Sarsgaard to add another guy to replace George.

    without bailey it wouldn't be the same! she's definitely the best character.. I read a few years ago that tiffani thiessen was joining the cast for season 4 in 2007.. that would've been interesting.. wouldn't mind having her walking around in a doctor's coat..
