Cat Cora and partner are pregnant

Aside from writing books, starring in a television show, spearheading charity projects and launching a new restaurant, lesbian Iron Chef Cat Cora has also managed to get pregnant. Cat, who has been with her partner Jen Cora for more than 10 years, is four and a half months pregnant with a boy. Jen is also knocked up, and is slated to give birth to a baby boy in April.

The pregnancy is Cat's first, and the couple already have two sons, Zoran and Caje, that Jen carried. Cat and Jen did some serious embryo-swapping that took me a minute to grasp, according to a press release she issued today:

The Coras share a unique family story in which both women have carried the other's biological child. Cat's pregnancy is a result of in-vitro fertilization with Jennifer's embryo. The couple's sons, ages 5 years and 23 months, were both carried by Jennifer. She was artificially inseminated for her first pregnancy, but the second she carried to term using Cat's embryo. In Jennifer's current pregnancy, both women's embryos were implanted, so the biological mother is unknown. They do not to plan to conduct DNA testing to determine the baby's biological mother.

The boys also all share the same anonymous (and generous) sperm donor, making them all biological brothers. Cat will give birth in July, and the Cora's lucky for sons will surely be eating delicious food daily.

"Jennifer and I are thrilled to go through the wonderful experience of pregnancy together. We started the in-vitro process five years ago," Cat said in a statement. "This has been a miracle for us and we'll now have four beautiful children."

Cat, who was awarded the Human Rights Campaign's Visibility Award in 2008, has always spoken openly about her family and we couldn't be happier for her and Jen.

"Jen and I have never hidden the fact that we’re together," she told foodie Carolyn Jung in November. "Our kids are important to us, and we want them to know we’re proud to be their mothers. You have to stand up for who you are, because you are basically standing up for them. We’re just an all-American family living the all-American dream."

Cat recently opened a barbecue restaurant, CCQ (Cat Cora's Que), in Costa Mesa, Calif. and is still the only female on the Food Network's Iron Chef America. She also founded Chefs for Humanity, a charity that aims to provide "nutrition education, hunger relief, and emergency and humanitarian aid to reduce hunger across the world."

Obviously, Cat is quite the multi-tasker. Pardon the pun, but she seems to have the woman-who-has-it-all recipe down.

    Yes me too !

Their story is so cute !!

As a medical student, I really appreciate and admire the way they have been able to prove women can actually have babies together !

(unfortunately, this couldn't be possible here, in the old France, where people, and doctors, are still too conservative to understand such a thing... let's have some hope, the new generation of doctors (we) will be more open-minded, at least I hope so...

Anyway, Cat and her partner should definitely be one of our symbol in the fight againt prop. H8 !!!

This gives us some hope... Good luck to this cute family !

    Hey! ^ Another med student

Hey! ^ Another med student here! I applaud the Coras' openess about the process...we need more role models for the diversity of our families!

Cat is great - I cross my fingers every time Iron Chef comes on, hoping she'll be the Iron Chef!

Symbol in the fight against prop 8

I agree.  They should definitely be a symbol in the fight against prop. 8.   Their commitment and love for one another, as well as their generosity in giving back to their community is apparent; in a way that (I believe) prop 8 supporters could see and understand.

    This story gives such hope.

    Hmmm

This opens up a spectre of new possibilities...although I did get a little confused..is the sperm donor anonymous just to us, or to them as well?

Heya girls, would you carry your partner's child?

    I don't know..but then, I'm so in love, I think I would...

Btw, I've just had my graduation ceremony on Saturday...thought I'd just let you know, there's a light at the end of the tunnel of med school..O_o

    My Dad...

My Dad and I watch iron Chef together pretty often, but he doesn't know I'm gay or that Cat Cora's gay either. The same was true about The Rachel Maddow Show until recently until he came to me and said, "Hey, do you know what? Rachel Maddow is gay! Did you know that?" Little did he know that the first night I saw Rachel I looked her up on here because I so hope she was gay - that was the one of the few times my gaydar has worked. So now I'm just waiting for the same thing to happen with Cat. Meanwhile I'm trying not to watch too intently when she's on!

    (I love my Dad!)

    Cat Cora

Ah, that explains the last episode where she did not partake in her traditional 'after the battle shot'.

I've watched Iron Chef America for years and have adored Cat since she first became an Iron Chef.  I love her quiet openness on her family and orientation.  I think Cat and her partner are sharing something so unique and amazing with their simultaneous pregnancies and I wish them only the best.

Though, selfishly I do hope that her maternity leave from Iron Chef America is not long.  Opa!

    wowowowow!

This is amazing !! It really makes me see the possibilities here ... I'm still not sure I want children, but I used to think that if I had one, it'd have be with a man (I'm bi). Now I see things differently and I'm happy about it cause I really see myself with a woman. Who knows what the future has in store for me!!

    Not so far-fetched

I think this is tremendous.  And normal.  It's time for the general population to learn that it's not just eggs & sperm that make a baby, it's also love, support and the ability to provide a stable home.  Not just anybody can do that.

This reminds me of the new film "The Baby Formula" - it's a fantastic film about two women in love who want to each have the biological baby of her partner.  It involves stem cells, a crazy family and, of course, two women in love.  www.thebabyformulamovie.com  Check it out!!!
