Breaking:"90210" unzips lesbian storyline

Michael Ausiello broke the news today that 90210 plans to give lesbian character Gia (Rumer Willis) a (gasp!) relationship.

And apparently, it doesn’t involve murder, sperm stealing or terminal illness. Executive producer Rebecca Sinclair told Ausiello, “We’re coming at this [relationship] from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting… And there’s been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters.”

You’re probably thinking, “Read your own site, Linster. Karman already told us that Mandy Musgrave is coming on the show as Alex, Gia’s ex.”

Well, guess what? Gia’s relationship isn’t with Alex.

(Spoiler alert!)

Turns out Gia will romance teenage mom Adrianna, played by the gorgeous Jessica Lowndes.

If Sinclair is being, um, straight with us, this won’t be a case of a hetero woman having a fling with a lesbian, but real, honest-to-goddess coming out of the closet as bisexual or lesbian for Adrianna. Which means Maeve Quinlan’s character Constance has to deal with yet another daughter coming out.

Entertainment Weekly promises an interview with Lowndes and more on the story in this week’s issue. We’ll keep you posted!

What do you think about Giadrianna? (Other than that I’m no good at slash names.) Where will Alex fit in?

    Gia and Adrianna makes zero sense.  Gia and Silver makes sense yet I guess the chick who plays Silver must had said hellzno to the lesbian roll. So sad and so it went to Adrianna. meh

    I only watched the pilot, but one thing that turned me off right away was that I was getting a huge gay vibe from Silver and I knew they weren't going to do that. Especially since it was so similar to SON and Silver was like Ashley! Ha.

    Super amused that it's Maeve Quinlan's daughter who's going to be coming out! Are those roles regulars? Callie/Arizona might have competition! Maybe I'll watch them on the internet sometime...

    I thought Annie and Silver would be Spencer and Ashley. But since thats not happening, Im glad Maeve will be mother to another gay daughter, it's just fitting for her haha.

    Who knows probably she's in reality bi-curious or even gay..... that would be the bomb!!!

    well if gia and adrianna did get together i guess that would mean alex would come along as "the ex" and sweep silver off her feet haha wishful thinking but i would much rather watch silver as a lesbian than adrianna..either way the show will be interesting!

    really...when they hell did she come on...to me i can see both her parents genes haha..but i wil freakin watch it for mandy..and jessica haha i cant imagine her playin gay or straight shes hot..drools..and maeve u always get the gays as ur children..haha..is there goin to be some hair pullage in this too? haha it would be total throw back to south man..

    I don't really watch the show, I used to but stopped. Now that I know Gia will get into an actual relationship and that Mandy will be on the show, I cannot wait!!! I love Mandy!!!!

    I always thought it would be Silver that Gia would hook up with, but it seems like Adrianna will still be the girl full of drama. It blows, but I think Jessica L will do a good job. 

    Jessica Stroup had a lesbian scene with Heather Graham in Broken, so I doubt she had any sort of issue with the storyline.  If you're up on the show you'll know that she has a whole world of drama on her own, so I guess they didn't want to add to the character's load.  Shame really.

    But, I am glad they seem to be playing out that storyline, from the perspective of representation alone.  Last season, Lauren London's character Christina wasn't really used to the fullest, so kudos to the new boss for redressing that.

    It'll be great to see Maeve and Mandy again, albeit in different scenes.

    I don't watch this show, but Mandy being on there is gonna make me watch it, for at least as long as she is on there. I didn't know Maeve was on their either. I'm not really a fan of these remakes of 90210 and Melrose Place, they could have called them something else, like the many teen dramas that have came and went.

    It's not going to happen. Nor should it. She gives off no "gay vibe" whatsoever. If you're seeing it, you're delusional or a victim of wishful thinking. Of all the females on 90210, Silver is the straightest. Fact!

    If they wanted to "make" any of the current girls "turn gay" the best choices are Naomi or Adrianna.

    Hell, in a perfect gay little world... they would ditch Gia and just hook Naomi and Adrianna up together. I did that (in my head) with their subtext from season one and I'm telling you, life is just soooooooo much better that way.....

    When they gave Marissa a girlfriend (Olivia Wilde, yessss) on The OC, didn't the producers also promise that it was going to be a genuine relationship and not a stunt? I think producers think if the storyline lasts more than one episode, it isn't a stunt. I fully expect this to be a very short-term thing designed to garner attention. Remember when Marissa had to start paying rent to live with Olivia Wilde's character and was basically like, "Man, being a lesbian is hard. I need to do my own laundry and pay rent. Ryan?!"
