“Battlestar Galactica” Season 4: how can it end?You can always count on AfterEllen.com to keep you informed about Battlestar Galactica , especially now that the last season is at hand (April 4 at 10 p.m. EST on Sci Fi). Can I get an “oh, frak?” You also can count on Malinda to share new BSG promotional photos when she finds them. If the women of Galactica don't make you squirm, get thee to the doctor.
Speculation about how the series will end is in high gear, even though we may not see the final 10 episodes until 2009. In an interview with Sci Fi Wire last week, Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama) said the most appropriate finale for such an innovative show is for the whole crew to die. “If it's true to form, no one makes it,” he said. This Season 4 poster does little to dispel that notion.
And I may be reading too much into it, but this trailer certainly seems apocalyptic. Although Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) hasn't expressed a desire to see the entire crew die, she does hope her own character will. How? “I don't know. Maybe have her ship blow up again. I just don't think there's any way to end it with her being happy. What I do wish for her is peace, in whatever form that comes in.”
I think we all would like a peace Sackhoff, by the way, gave BostonNOW a nice interview that appeared Sunday. If you're a Katee fan – and who isn't? – check it out when you have a few minutes. Check this out right now.
See how we help you stay abreast of Katee's every, um, nuance? And lest I be accused of slighting Number Six, here's a snap of Sackhoff with costar Tricia Helfer. Let the fantasies begin!
Sci Fi has kindly provided a way to catch up on the series in the form of an 8-minute recap. And if you just can't wait until Friday night for the season premier, take your headphones to work and catch the episode on scifi.com from noon – 1 p.m. EST Friday afternoon. How do you think BSG should end? Will they finally see Earth or will they die trying? Who's the remaining Cylon? Where was Starbuck when she was supposed to be dead? And can Renee O'Connor please make a guest appearance?

I think I speak for
I think I speak for everyone when I say,
EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Cannot wait until this weekend!
[incidently it may be time to review my daily caffeine intake]
Fantasies
Strombo recently suggested a Thelma-and-Louise-esque movie with Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer... I stopped listening after that but the interview can be seen here: http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/video.php?id=2030
Sackhoff site
I don't think I'm gonna sleep again until I see the Season 4 opener.
Hey if you guys are into Katee Sackhoff, you should see the new website about her - TeamSpank HQ (her nickname is 'Little Spank'). There's some pretty funny stuff there. Someone did this really pervy study of her collarbone!
Bikes
I love that picture of Tricia and Katee on their motorbikes so much!
Na, I can totally imagine what a Thelma-and-Louise-esque movie with those two would be like: Hot and fun!
I can't wait till saturday (when I can see BSG). And I'm really really curious about what Starbuck is now..

Battlestar ending
It would seem a little strange to have a show about the remaining survivors of genocide end up all dying in an act of genocide. Kind of like-what was the point of the last 4 years if they're all going to die anyways?
On a happier note---------Katee Sackhoff-yummy
Agreed. That would be the
Agreed. That would be the dumbest ending imaginable. At one point, EJO also said he thought a good ending would be reaching earth and finding out that George Bush is the final cylon, so I'm not sure we can take his ideas all that seriously (though Bush being a cylon would explain a lot).
I don't get why Sackoff wants Starbuck to die. She already "died" once. Redundant deaths are an unimaginative way to achieve closure at the end of TV series. Of course there should be a few dramatic deaths, but they should be somewhat less obvious/expected, or someone whose death seems like an inevitable and necessary part of the narrative (aka Roslin).
I think Baltar would be a good choice to kill off right at the end in some sort of sacrificial gesture, since he is the main human responsible for the apocalypse.
Bush as Cylon
Ha !
Speaking of redundant deaths, could anyone do me a favour and discuss this topic with Number 3? What is it with LL and her characters dying all the time? Some form of self-purification? Maybe she shoudn't have married (a man).
But I'm perfect with killing off Baltar. This guy has been getting onto my nerves long enough now. Just wondering, what would the Cylons do without their Number 1? (Just speculating.)
Earth
It has been stated that they will reach earth, the main question is what is earth. Is it the earth we know? Just a planet that shares the same name as ours?
The main thing I want to know is who is the final cylon.
Agreed:
" I think we all would like a peace
offor Starbuck."I'm glad that the creators know that this season is the last - it gives them plenty of time to have an appropriate ending. I'm dying to know who the final cylon is - I definitely don't think it's Starbuck.
I know the ending
Season 4 Poster
This morning on my way to work, I drove passed a construction site that has the season 4 poster pasted on it. Traffic was stopped and I got a good look at it. And I kind of gasped. Call me crazy, but it looks like the Last Supper. Anyone else see it?
The figures are not exactly in the same poses, but there's enough to make me wonder in what drection they're taking this last season. Which ever way they go I'm sure it's going to be a great ending.
Peace, Joy and Love
No expectations.
Given the quality of the writing on BSG so far, I don't expect a great ending or even a surprising revelation at the end of this show. BSG and The L Word share the same core problem: A good cast struggling with bad writing. Luckily, sometimes the cast is able to save an episode.
To be honest, the only reasons I keep watching are the CGI sequences (reminds me of the good old Wing Commander days) and Lucy. But I'm willing to be positively surprised, so I hope they will come up with a satisfying conclusion for the show. Sometimes having low/no expectations at all is simply the best way to not get disappointed.
Hmmm
Too many questions.
Some of the characters behave pretty erratic. Roslin is excused, she's a politician, it's her job to change her mind every morning. But the military? Yes, they're in an akward situation, but with most of them I miss a line connecting the dots. It's hard to figure out their characteristics, traits and personality. The shapes stay blurry. But as the show progresses it gets slightly better. And what with all this pseudo-religious mumbo jumbo? A civilization capable of interstellar travel builds temples, and needs holy books and magic arrows to plot a course? I don't know, maybe it's simply not my cup of tea, but I would expect such a civilization to be more reasonable than that.
One fleet, 50.000 survivors, 2 Battlecruiser left. In such a situation the one controlling the firepower is the one in command. What do they need a civil government for? Especially when it's President constantly stirs up trouble instead of being useful. And what the heck do they need a complete press chor for?
The Cylons are supposed to be superior in many aspects. Well, they don't really act that way. Maybe they're still running some old 16bit code on 286 hardware. It doesn't seem they really want to catch their prey. Instead they're driving it before them, wasting a lot of resources in the process. Why? To study them? To find Earth? Why kill billions of humans and then try to become like them? And it seems the Cylons have their own strange spirituality.
And don't get me started on the whole Admiral Cain-turned-into-a-degenerated-wicked-SmokeJaguar thing (especially since in the german version they gave her the voice of Xena, Ouch!). And what with that madman Baltar? Who would make a guy Vice-President who is constantly speaking to himself?
The problem with BSG is that it raises a lot of questions, just as The X-Files did. If all of these questions are going to be answered in a satisfying way at the end of the show, it's great, because it kept the audience thinking, puzzling, on edge all the time. But if the show fails to give those answers, the whole setup collapses, leaving the viewers behind unsatisfied. Just as with The X-Files. Why are they doing a new movie now? Seems someone realized there were too many loose ends that needed to be tied up. Someone remember Space 2049? Another of those shows which failed to give the answers, leaving a lot of confused viewers behind. BSG can still have a great finale, but they better give good answers to the questions they themselves raised during the show.
As for your question concerning better writing: IMO Star Trek NextGen and DS9 are still unsurpassed in the SciFi genre. But, of course, in the end it's a matter of personal taste.
Ahhh
...
Just realized: Me thinking about BSG and critizing it shows that it does hold some importance for me, maybe more than I'm willing to admit. Battlestar Galactica was the second movie I've seen in my life (the first one was Star Wars). Maybe that explains a lot?
I was really disappointed with X-Files and Space back then, and I don't want to get disappointed again. So I prefer to go with the "lowered expectations" strategy.
Yes, the Cylons being complicated does make them more interesting (although the original Borg collective on STTNG, without any individualism, was also interesting as a concept). It's just that the Centurions and the Hybrids are so utterly different from each other that I cannot stop to wonder how they can function as one species. Haven't the Centurions (being the original Cylons) somehow become the servants of the Hybrids? Just as they had been the servants of the humans before? Sometimes I would really love to know what the Centurions are thinking, that is, if they think at all.
question
In the promo picture that is modeled after the Last Supper, who is the woman standing behind President Roslin, pointing at the other end of the table? I can make out everyone else, but not her. It's not Lucy Lawless's character, is it?
I am so excited for BSG to come back on air. In idle moments over the past few months, I've been racking my brain about who the last, final cylon is. And I have absolutely no clue.
Yes

Just in case

People who take everything literally? Here? On AE?...Hmm...
Just don't hand them a Bible, o.k.?
Answers...
For those of you wondering who as at the opposite of the end of the table pointing at a Christ-like Number Six is...*Drumroll, please*...Number Six; but, with a different hairstyle...See the preview for the next episode for confirmation.
And, a theory as to who, what, and why all the things have happened on the series; can look to the two-part episode of the classic "Battlestar Galactica" called War of the Gods for the answer...And, if you're as big a geek as I am; you'll see the parallels.
The line; it's happened before; it will happen again...Which is constantly spoken on the show...Actually refers to what's happen NOW on BSG...Not what will happen in the future. The future is now!!! Get it? Think about it...You will.
