"Army Wives" deploys cast for Season 2

Good news for those of us who, perhaps surprisingly, became fans of Lifetime's Army Wives last summer.

Cynopsis, a TV trade site, reported last week that Army Wives is about to start production of its second season. That means we'll get to see the second season by early summer. Although I doubt you need a reminder of what, or, rather, who makes this show DVR-worthy, let's review.

Kim Delaney

Catherine Bell

Brigid Brannagh

Sally Pressman

Wendy Davis

Renee O'Connor

Wait, what? Yes, the lovely Renee O' Connor will guest star on Army Wives next season. Katherine Fugate, the creator of Army Wives, was a Xena writer and is a good friend of Gabby Renee. Look for more about her character in this week's Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever.

Could it get much better? Well, yes — the subtext could become the story line.

Hey, a girl can dream. And I do.

If you didn't discover Army Wives last year, you can catch up on the first season via DVD or iTunes. If you did watch, are you looking forward to Season 2? Any predictions?

    Ah ha!

See I knew I wasn't the only one who saw subtext all over the place. But my wife said I was seeing things! Ha!

    So true!

Subtext is all over this show! My sister and I stumbled across it randomly and immediatly thought Claudia Joy was getting it on with Denise. I think Denise did also have moment with Joan as well, but chances are it was my seeing things. Sometimes we have to make our own GLBT entertainment! I don't quite know what makes this show so interesting but I do like that it shows strong friendships between women and the show gives you people to hate. The ending had me rooting for the nasty gossip queen to get what's coming to her lol!

    I am not alone!

I loved the first season of this show. And it ended with a real cliff hanger. The news that Renee O'Connor will be on next season is great. Ya'll go watch the first season so you'll be up to speed, because a lot of stuff happened and it's going to hit the ground running. Subtext or no, this series really held my attention last season.

    About Time!

Is it really true it's out on dvd already?  Rumors were that it wouldn't be released until right before S2 debuts. Well, I guess if it's to air in the summer, now would be "right before".

My Lifetime reception became  unbearable for a while and had to abandon the show midway.

    Very happy.

    Hmm...

Looks like the DVD isn't out after all. The sites I read regarding the new season referred to the Season 1 DVD, but Netflix says that it's not released yet. Bummer. I feel sure that Lifetime will rerun the first season leading up to Season 2, so watch for it and I'll try to give ya'll the heads up if I see it.

Gabby, uh, Renee is in... I am IN!!!

Renee O'Connor in anything and sign me up. She is the best.

Can't wait to see it, espeically since Katherine Fugate was such a great writer on Xena (When Fates Collide).

Renee to play a lesbian on Army Wives

I attended the Burbank XWP Con in Jan 2008 and found out Renee is going to be in a 4 or 5 episode arch and has some sort of lesbian relationship with one of the Army Wives (I'd like to see Renee with Catherine Bell - blond and dark haired together again!)

Katherine Fugate, who is very good friends with Renee, had been wanting to cast Renee in her show from the beginning.

This is what KT (a famous Xenite who writes up XWP Con Reports) reported what Renee said at the XWP Con:

Audience Member: Katherine (Fugate) told us about the four episode arc of "Army Wives" she would be filming.

Renee: “How much did she tell you?” Fan answer: “You’re (Renee) the aggressive one.” Renee then talked about how this would be different for her to play. “I never seduced anyone.” (There were some giggles in the audience.) In a slightly offended tone, “I didn’t seduce Xena.” (Big laughs from us.) Renee turned around and walked off to the other side of the stage, trailing the words, “Xena seduced me.” HUGE cheers from some audience members. Stoic silence from others. And a baffled buzz from the rest.

Renee said as she has in the past, about taking on a new role, “I want to explore my sexuality.” Big snorting ho-HO giggles in the audience. (I am absolutely convinced that Renee doesn’t realize that many people use the term “sexuality” as a synonym for “orientation”. I’m fairly certain she is using it just to mean the sexual part of her psyche. Which she has told us in the past scares her, that she’s suppressed it because she doesn’t feel safe being sexual.)

Renee then added, “I think that I explored my sexuality at the Roxy last night.” We gave her a hooting agreement.

Renee also told us that the role in "Army Wives" was all Katherine Fugate’s idea. Either a fan asked or she just said something like, “How will we do research?” I’m sure many people about died on the spot at the thought of how they could help Renee with her research. “I’m the type of actor who does a lot of research. I’ve got a book in my car.” There was lots of giggling and amused snorts during this part of the presentation. Renee said the name of the book is “The Veiled Monologues”. It’s a book about women who follow the religion of Islam.

    Thanks

    ..for posting this :)

That "Xena seduced me" line is my new fave, it cracked me up! Renee is the best, how can you NOT love her. sigh.

And maybe I have to start watching Army Wives... I bet they would have put her on the show earlier had they known how the ratings are going to skyrocket now hehe..

and I was hooked on this show! Adding a lesbian would just make it better. I thought the writing was excellent and I enjoyed every episode. Glad to see that is is being promoted here. And that the new season will be coming soon. I just have more reasons to love my TiVo.

And I am there. I CAN NOT WAIT. i think that she and Wendy davis would be great, then again that sally pressman is good too. But I think the best would be for them to bring in Lucy lawless to go at it with REN, heheheh
