Angelina Jolie may retire at an early ageA new trend is spreading among celebrities — they want to quit being celebrities. Or at least to quit acting. The latest to announce her intention to leave Hollywood is our favorite BBB (Bisexual Before Brad), Angelina Jolie.
Last Thursday, in an interview with the BBC, Jolie said: “I don’t plan to keep acting very long, I’m ready to do a few things now and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day. … maybe it [acting] will be once a year and then maybe it will be once every three years, and then just naturally … I like being home a lot these days.” This came on the heels of a similar comment she made recently in an interview with the Italian edition of Vanity Fair.
“The kids are my priority, so it’s possible that from now on I will make fewer movies. I may even stop altogether,” Jolie told the magazine. “I no longer have the ambition I had in my 20s.”
On Monday, Jolie apparently realized that announcing her retirement might prevent her from getting film roles. So, she held a news conference to say she didn’t mean it. “I’m not making some retirement announcement. I have a big family and a lot of responsibility at home, and I have the good fortune to financially not have to work all the time.” She added, “I just feel privileged that I get to be home a lot. Maybe eventually I’ll stop.” I’m not sure I’d mind that much if Angelina stopped making movies. I would, however, mind if she stopped making movie stills — especially the ones with guns.
In any case, Jolie has given us a fine holiday gift in the form of a feature story, “Super Girl,” in the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Her lips kind of scare me — would someone with huge lips get them plumped? — but she is remarkably beautiful.
See the rest of the Harper’s spread, along with the text of the article, here. Are you ready for Angelina to retire from films? Who do you think will be next to retire? You can find some clues here>. Submitted by on November 19, 2008 - 9:00am. |

ah
to bad..
bummer
BBB
BBB (Bisexual Before Brad) I like that one. lol
First I read it as CBB (Celebrity Baby Blog).
I don't want her to retire. I think she is an amazing actress and I would hate to see her stop doing what she does best. I know she has 6 children and that she also has to take care of them. I love children and I think hers are beautiful.
Why does she have to be the one to "retire"? Why not Brad? Angelina is more beautiful to look at anyhow. And I think most men and women would agree on that one.
good for her
I saw this coming when she started working for the united nations and wrote a book about her work. She has seemed to become more of a humanitarian than actor since then and now she has a huge family, I'm glad that she will spend more time doing that sort of thing now. She has more to offer the world than movies....hopefully she'll continue to do at least 1 movie every 2 or 3 years.
Not Going Anywhere
She's not going anywhere anytime soon (thank god!).
She just replaced Tom Cruise in the film Edwin A. Salt. Production starts in February. After that she's taking a year off, but she's not retiring.
Money gives more options
I always heard that people with lots of money are no different from anyone else, they just have more options. Maybe she's simply exploring her options.
I can't imagine her stepping away from her humanitarian work, though.

oh well
i didnt watch her movies anyway. they are too action-y for me. and i guess she should take time to be a mother and all that.
Bisexual Comment
I actually had a bit of a visceral reaction to the comment that Jolie is our favorite Bisexual Before Brad.
It is just as false to suggest that because she is in a relationship with a man she is straight as it is to call Lindsey Lohan a lesbian because she is in a relationship with a woman.
I understand there is a simplicity in this thinking that is appealing, but it is ultimately detrimental.
This either/or mentality is something I hate. I had difficulty coming to terms with my own bisexuality because of this pressure to pick a side. At varying degrees, I am always aware of exclusion from both homo and hetero camps. I am a traitor in their midst through no fault of my own. I hate being falsely judge straight or gay. I would much prefer all nouns refering to a person's sexual orientation to be adjectives instead. But for the moment all I can say is say 'DOWN WITH MONOSEXUALISM' and call it a day.
Angelina said it, not me
That comment was a reference to something Angelina said last year.
Here's the quote: "I've never hidden my bisexuality. But since I've been with Brad, I abandoned women. Now there is no room for that or S&M in my life."
Sorry for the misunderstanding - no offense intended.
I Understand
I knew it was in reference to something she had said, plus you had the alliteration thing going on and that quote of hers is absolutely repugnant.
I just needed to say something. I am often bothered by the way bisexuality is portrayed in the media, in conversation with friends...pretty much everywhere. I always feel the need to explain to people that I neither gay nor straight because they assume.
Also, Prop. 8 has made me really mad. I've been thinking about how the straight part of me is legally able to get married while the gay part isn't. So, bisexuality has been on my mind.
hear, hear! Thank you for
hear, hear!
Thank you for saying this. I find myself so often wanting to comment on the mentality that is so often a part of the lesbian community relating to people who are not 100% gay or straight.
I've avoided saying something up until now because mostly it was relating to lindsay lohan, and quite frankly i'm tired of people talking about her.
but! i am thoroughly frustrated at the perpetuation of a system that acknowledges only the 2 ends of what many people suggest, and i believe, is actually a spectrum of sexuality. particularly on this site, which states to be the place for the lesbian and bisexual community. (which doesn't even get into the issue i have with the restrictiveness of the word bisexual)
Before Brad
In my opinion, one should actually publicly date a woman to be called bisexual. Angelina only mentioned her fling with Jenny Shimizu after the fact. She has never openly dated a woman since. I understand that she does not see herself dating a woman because she is now in a serious relationship, but I doubt that she was ever going to date a woman.
As for Bisexual Before Brad, she was also a Healthy Weight Before Brad and Believed in Adoption Before Brad. She admitted that "one of the life changing things that he did, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant. I never felt that it was the right thing to do." She believed that there were already so many children in the world that needed love. I guess I believed her persona of being a strong woman. I was wrong.
A Definition
i agree. thanks so much for
i agree. thanks so much for saying this. it often feels so much easier to refer to oneself as 'gay' or 'straight', because these terms often feel so much stronger. we can talk of the gay community, or heterosexual norms, but there are few phrases us bisexuals can identify with, and so having a sense of pride surrounding ones bisexuality often seems much more difficult.
and surely, renouncing the one-off sex with women she had is not the same as renouncing bisexuality? of course, she sees her future in the context of the relationship she's in right now, but the same could be said of any of us. if a straight woman dates a guy called bob and doesnt want to sleep with any other men, surely shes still hetero and not bob-sexual?!
Agreement
"if a straight woman dates a guy called bob and doesnt want to sleep with any other men, surely shes still hetero and not bob-sexual?!"
You made me laugh. But really this is what I have been feeling and thinking about how I'm viewed in my bi-hood. Once again, it's the current 'either/or mentality' of sexuality. And it a way it could be as artibitray has catagorizing people through preference for glasses wearers. (I love a pair of glasses on the face of my lover!)
oh gosh
me too! theres just something so sexy about when they peer over their lenses, or even finally take them off to talk to you (im so lucky- i get to hang out in libraries all day so i get to see loads of specsiness!).... x
apologies to everyone else for taking a tangent even more off topic. just had to be said.
this is the worst
People Care About This?
Heh.
Well this site is not CNN...
Being snarky aside...
I find it rather amusing when I read comments like this "do people care!?!?!" one on sites like this (enterntainment sites). Angelina for what I remember is bisexual or BBB in the enterntainment industry and one of the few actresses that can carry a movie by her name; if she stops acting-it's news. I suggest the Economist it has some great insights on the economy; the failing big auto 3, it's quite interesting!
So once again, heh.
