Amy Poehler’s favorite "Parks and Recreation" moments

How many of you are watching Parks and Recreation?

Wait, what? Who are you people whose hands aren’t raised?

I know that Thursday night is a DVR nightmare. I mean Bones, Flashforward, Vampire Diaries and Parks and Recreation are all on at the same time. Still, you really have no excuse, because Parks and Recreation is available online on nbc.com, Hulu and on many cable systems On Demand.

Of course, that doesn’t really tell you why you should watch, even though StuntDouble made a persuasive argument a few weeks ago. In fact, let me quote her: “Parks and Recreation is the best thing going on Thursday night.” Yes, it’s funnier than The Office and 30 Rock. And that, my friends, is saying a lot.

But the ratings, while improving, still need to be higher. The fact is that Parks and Recreation got off to a slow start and many people quit watching. If you are one of those people, you are missing something great.

TV critic extraordinaire Alan Sepinwall agrees and asked Amy Poehler to help him prove how funny her show is by choosing her favorite moments so far in the series. Here are a few of her picks, with her comments.

Ann and Leslie go on a practice date.

“It was very fun to get harassed by Rashida Jones in a nice restaurant. It’s not the first time. I really enjoy how terrible Leslie’s dating track record is.”

Dave thinks Madeline Albright is Leslie’s grandma.

Louis C.K. is a great actor, and I love when he is uncomfortably flirting with Leslie. When Dave doesn't recognize Madeline Albright in a picture on Leslie's desk, Leslie has a crisis moment where she wonders if he is the right guy for her.”

Leslie looking out her window on a rainy day.

“This was a simple scene in our first episode, where Leslie talks about her dream for a park. Greg Daniels was directing Michael Schur's script. I was looking out the window thinking about what it would be like to stay optimistic and hopeful. How I would need to prepare myself for a new project that would take years, and how it would be hard but amazing work. It is my favorite scene to date.”

You can watch the rest of Poehler’s picks here.

I have so many favorite moments myself that I had a hard time narrowing the field. But the first episode of this season set a pretty high standard for funniness, with its story about Leslie’s wedding of same-sex penguins.

As a bonus, here’s an unaired clip in which Leslie shows off a new look at a special dinner.

Which proves that Amy Poehler not only is funny, she’s hot.

Do you agree that Parks and Recreation is at the top of the Thursday comedy heap? What are your favorite moments so far?

Definitely Thursday's best show.

I started watching cause of Amy and it took me a while to get hooked, but sometime during the 1st season Amy wasn't the only reason I watched the show anymore.

The 2nd season is really great. I can't really pick a favorite moment cause, well, I have a really horrible memory. But the scene from last night's episode in which Leslie goes all crazy Amy while trying to make excuses for why she did something that I don't want to spoile for anyone who didn't watch the episode yet is defenetly one of my favorite Leslie moments.

Shame hulu dosn't let me watch the last clip, it sounds interesting :P

It's so true!!! It's way

It's so true!!! It's way more funnier than the Office or 30 Rock.  I just about peed my pants on last night's episode when she's talking to the Parks Ranger and going through the lists of stereotypical women things.  Hillarious!

It's the Temple of 41 Flavors!

Amy Poehler does Tim Gunn

One of my favorite moments of the show was last week -- Amy Poehler impersonating Tim Gunn was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long, long while.

YES!

I think this show has really hit its stride. I too fell off the wagon during the first season, but the second season has been absolutely incredible!! The ensemble cast is stronger than ever and Amy Poehler and all her genius comedic talent is given room to shine. I agree that P + R is funnier than 30 Rock (which has been less funny than usual this season imo). I just saw the latest Parks episode and can't remember the last time I cried from laughing so hard! From a political p.o.v., I also really like what this show is doing--with the gay marriage of penguins ep. and Leslie's feminism.

I too will stand up and be counted...

Really digging this show.

I love love love Poehler and Rashida Jones.  How cute are they as a comedy duo?

In a surprise twist, however, the girl who plays April might just take the cake. ...Gee...I guess I should learn her name before posting.  Anyway, she's ace.

Yes - April!!!

I love April!!!

love it - on in Australia soon

Absolutely love this show, the second season is genius and is funnier than the current 30 Rock season.

The cast is fantastic, the characters are all ridiculous and hilarious.  I love them all.

Tom makes me laugh a lot.

for those in Australia it starts on 7two in the next week or so, but I should imagine that is the 1st season, which is good, but nowhere near as amazing as the second

Lmao!

She crack me up on that show...she even practice laugh on that date! oh god..i love her!

the second season is much funnier

I watched the a few episodes of the first season but quickly lost interest.

I like the second season much better, especially the emphasis on Leslie Nope's feminism.

The relationship between Nope and the Louis CK character is sweet and interesting in watch.

oh man!

i love this show!  i'm glad i stuck with it.  the office unfortuantely has been hit and miss this season, making parks and rec the funniest show on television.  the entire cast is wonderful.  love love love it.  i am going to watch the first season again and see if i like it better.

I do love me some Amy Poehler.

Unfortunately I'm in the UK (Scotland to be exact) so I probably won't be able to watch this for a while...

If you haven't seen these high-larious clips with Amy Poehler and various other ladies of comedy, it's a must watch....

LAUGH OUT LOUD comedy

seriously, the latest ep had me in stitcheS! i watched it a few times now...brilliant! I personally believe that mayb they need to amp-up the marketing for the show..i mean its my favourite show but wen i introduce it to my friends, i feel silly saying its full title "hey, do u watch this show called parks and recreation"..LOLLLL what do u guys think?? its too late to change the title now obviously..but jst for kicks, what wld u name it??

wild_horses's picture

I agree, the name is awful.

I agree, the name is awful. I think it's supposed to be funny in a sardonic humor/documentary style way, but yeah...'Arrested Development' went for the same effect but it actually has a ring to it. I have no idea what a better title would be...too bad they can't change them like band names!

Definitely A Slow Start

I watched P & R when it first came on and wasn't impressed. Then I watched it again a few episodes ago and was shocked by how much better it had become. Amy Poehler is a treasure!

i just watched last week's episode tonight and by far my favorite scene of the show thus far was the park ranger interrogation from this episode. So funny. The show definitely has its ups and downs but I kinda dig it now.
