Amy Acker is headed for “Happy Town”Amy Acker is a Dallas girl, born and bred.
As far as I’m concerned, one of her best roles was one that I happened to be on set for — she played Catherine Morland in the Wishbone version of Northanger Abbey. Wishbone played Henry Tilney, of course.
Acker has moved on, quite successfully, and her most recent turn has been as the enigmatic doctor Claire Saunders on Dollhouse.
Dr. Saunders is responsible for taking care of the “dolls” and seems to have a special interest in Echo (Eliza Dushku). My theory is that Claire used to be Echo, but it’s just a hunch. I wouldn’t object at all if Ms. Snarker’s hunch about a little girl/girl action proved right instead.
Recent news, however, indicates that Claire and Echo better get busy now that Acker has taken a role in the ABC pilot Happy Town. The two-hour drama explores what happens in Haplin, Minn., a town that has enjoyed a seven-year peace after a series of kidnappings, when it is hit by another crime. Acker plays the police chief’s wife.
My first thought when I heard this was, “There goes Dollhouse.” But not necessarily. For one thing, Acker is not a regular character on Dollhouse, but a recurring character, so it’s feasible that she could do both shows. And shooting a pilot is far from a guarantee that Happy Town will be picked up. So, I don’t think Amy is giving up on Joss Whedon’s baby quite yet.
I hope not. Last week’s episode drew me in and, although Dollhouse still could be better, I realized I really want to know what’s going on. Is Amy Acker’s new pilot a bad sign for Dollhouse? Are you watching? Any theories on how Claire got her scars? Submitted by on March 5, 2009 - 12:00pm. |

We know...
How Claire got the scars. She was attacked by Alpha when he escaped. Would totally love to see some Claire / Echo time.
I doubt that Claire was ecer Echo however. "Retired" dolls seem to end up in the "attick" so I doubt Claire was ever an active.
Obviously, I'm watching. I really like that show and can't wait for Joss's presence to shine through even more and get rid of Fox's overbearing meddling.
But why?
No we don't
gotta love Dallas girls!
I went to school with miss Acker's younger brother and am thrilled that she's doing so well for herself! I'm with DorthySnarker's hunch about some girl-on-girl (wishful thinking I'm sure) but I also think you're onto something about her being the old Echo. I look forward to seeing where they take her character. Awesome work Amy!

We know how Claire got her
We know how Claire got her scars, she had a bit part in the scene where Alpha shivved the crap out of the Dollhouse inhabitants; such a minor role was A Good Thing, because featured players suffered more than scars - to paraphrase Jenny Shecter "eviscerated, they were..."
I'd like to think that Illyria Scarface could run series in tandem, and that a career thesp could multi-task - but who the hell knows the fate of programmes allocated the Fox Friday Slot of Doom? Dollhouse hasn't just made a slow start, it's made a "This stuff is by Joss Whedon? You're kidding..." kind of start. Scuttlebutt asserts that it gets watchable about 6 or 7 episodes into the run; interesting strategy, that, but cough Firefly cough etc.
The TV ratings battle in the States does little other than confuse those of us viewing developments from across the pond; the logic of TV execs does not resemble our Earth Logic, as Whedon might say. Currently I'm a jangled wreck, worrying over the survival quotient of Sarah Connor, how the hell they're gonna resolve the storylines in BSG, and bewailing the hideous prospect of Smallville Season 9. And why did the bad Television people pull Pushing Up Daisies?
Worst of it is, I'm a helpless onlooker; I can't exert any influence of any description (at least not until TV ratings take account of UK residents who obtain access to US programming through morally dubious interweb sources...) I can only urge AE members who have the right kind of box to Do Your Bit, watch T:SSC and Dollhouse.

The last sentence made me fall in love with you. Do you want to move across the pond and live with me. I'm in Minnesota, so we hav plenty of water fron to make an Elglander like yourself happy.
Shows dont get a chance
You mentioned ratings. I dont believe tv shows now even get a chance to try and shine here. IF they do poorly in the first month most of them are heading towards cancellation. I've been hearing stuff about Dollhouse and Sarah Chronicles getting the axe if ratings dont go up Our rating system, Neilsen is an old and flawed system that needs to be reevaluated or replaced with a system that takes into account, DVR/TiVO, Itunes, and online viewers. Till then the ratings numbers will never be actual viewers.
oh and the reason they cancelled Pushing Daises is because of poor ratings, though the writers strike and the desision to wait to bring it back after the strike was over was a bad desision on ABCs part.
As far as Amy Acker, I'm sure she is a fine actress. But I wouldn't invest in any new shows on ABC seeing as they love to cancel them. So my thoughts, put all your energy into supporting her and the rest of the cast of Dollhouse.
pardon my rant.
I'd rather see some more
I'd rather see some more Echo/Sierra moments, I think there's some kind of lez-connection there.
No offense to Amy, she's gorgeous, I loved her in Angel <3
Yes please more Echo/Sierra

reason for scars
Regarding the reason Alpha cut the good Dr's face...
They showed that Alpha killed the dolls but left Echo and cut up the Dr's face and one wonders why he didn't kill them too. I'm not a psychologist but I would think there is meaning behind cutting someone's face and not killing them.
In the flashback after Alpha escapes those were some wicked scars.

Thanks for this article and

kind of off subject
i've always hated wishbone. my be-all, never-miss-an episode, all-time, all-world favorite show as a kid was ghostwriter. and i would always watch it at the same time when i got home from school. but one day i came home, turn to my local pbs station and there was no ghostwriter, just this silly talking dog. i lost it.
also, i was kind of a lit snob(/elitist jerk) of a 10 year old. . . and something about the talking dog doing homer, shakespeare, poe, etc just rubbed me the wrong way.
but about a acker/dollhouse
i've not a clue as to the implications of her new pilot for dollhouse, but i'm hoping to hold on to both dr. saunders and the dollhouse for quite a bit longer.
Amy Acker is one of Whedon's most underrated players!
Forget SM Gellar, A Hannigan, C Carpenter. Amy Acker ROCKED in ANGEL. What a complete change she made from Fred to Illyria. I'm STILL is awe of her acting skills there. Besides the whole Tara/Willow death scene ... I'm STILL pissed off at Joss Whedon for NEVER getting Fred and Wesley together.
Amy Acker deserves all the attention she gets. She's awesome.
I completely agree. Amy
I completely agree. Amy Acker is my favorite actor of all of Joss's shows and the character of Fred/Illyria was awesome. She proved her kickass acting skills when she was Illyria and then has continued to prove them with every role that she gets. At least Whedon let her be with Wesley for a whole episode and a half, better than nothing I suppose. But I'm still pissed about both Tara and Fred dying. But at least with Fred dying, Amy Acker was still around.
Joss Whedon, in general
Okay, not to bash Joss Whedon but he has a tendency to crap on relationships gay or straight. Have you seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog?
Anyway, the most heartbreaking TV deaths, in no particular order:
Tara (Buffy), Fred (Angel), Dana (The L Word), Kat (Battlestar Galactica).
Amy Acker rocks!!!
Oh yeah, he definitely has a
