TV Alert: Ellen gets personal on "Oprah"After a self-promotion campaign that involved everything from waiting on hold at Harpo in front of a live studio audience to sending Justin Timberlake on an emissary mission, Ellen DeGeneres' quest to share the cover of O Magazine with Oprah has finally come to fruition. And today, The Oprah Winfrey Show is having Oprah revealed two of the four possible O Magazine covers at Oprah.com this morning, and revealed the final two on her show today.
Last week, the Dynamic Duo was at Water Tower Park in Chicago, handing out the magazine and signing the first 1,000 copies. I think Ellen's pretty excited about merging their collective superpowers because she's been
On today's Oprah, Ellen will be talking about her new gig at American Idol, her wedding and her home life. It's the first interview she and Portia have done together. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun and a lot of "awww"s, because that's what happens any time the two of them share a stage. Ellen and Oprah's December issue of O Magazine hits shelves on Nov. 12. Do you plan to tune in and/or pick up a copy of O? Which cover do you like best? Submitted by on November 6, 2009 - 3:00pm. |

love Oprah and Ellen.
"Come On Then Get These Good Done Debbies"
I like the second one
They seem more equal and it just looks very Ellen.
I will probably check out the interview on Youtube or Ellen's website if it gets on there.
Ugh
This is where...
I wish I still had DVR.
Does anyone know if they have full episodes online for Oprah's show?
Oprah repeats in the early am

No geo-blocking (at least not for Canada *niiiiice*) and it's 100% free streaming video.
Not all of her shows are on there but it looks like NinjaVideo.net just recently started streaming some of her shows.
Latest one was this past Friday's.
Check Monday evening to see if someone at that site has posted Monday's show there. Would be great if they did & I'm guessing someone might since it's two of tv's titans on that ep.
Very cool-thank you!
love it!
I'll surely watch! That seems like a lot of fun. As for the cover, I'm going for the first one...

Picking Up My Copy
I've been waiting for this moment to pop up ever since AE.com talked about how Ellen will be on O mag. I didn't think it was going to happen after month and month me browsing by newsstand and haven't seen her on O. I was becoming disappointed. Thanks. So the news is true.
Too bad I can't watch the episode air. I'll settle for the magazine cover.

Airbrush much?
Could they look more airbrushed? It looks like Oprah's stunt double on the first cover.
The thing about Italian food is that 2 or 3 days later you're hungry again.
My Thoughts too.... The
My Thoughts too....
The thing is the Oprah goes on about not obsessing about her size anymore..and yet...she is air brushed on the cover of her magazine...More like Hypocritcal much.
ellen!
Wooness!
Glad to see them on O together
Either cover is a bit too goofy for my taste. I can see them wanting to be playful but there's something more goofy than cute or comical.
Even so....I'm so glad these two women are doing this. Other two leading talk show hosts could have chosen to ignore each other or compete. This is refreshing and simply good for the heart.
I like the 2nd cover better,
I can not wait!!
I will be watching..
yes.. it will be a good show with Ellen ...
Now we just need Rosie as the Surprise guest Monday's Show ... to ask Oprah when she's coming out again ..
I vote for the 2 nd cover ..
Ellen and Portia first interview
Great

I'm looking forward to the

im not a big fan of oprah
im not a big fan or oprah nor elle, but i do like the first cover of the magazine :0
it looks like ellen is proposing to oprah, while in the second picture, ellen almost looks like a 7 year old kid- she looks so small compared to oprah in the 2nd pic
OMG how adorable is Ellen?!
OMG how adorable is Ellen?!
Eventhough (as someone pointed out above) the covers are highly airbrushed, you can still see that Ellen amazingness shining through. Seeing her in that second pic with her sneakers all kicked up just brought a huge smile to my face! Thanks for reminding me why I LOVE her.
far from my time
oh moms.
With any luck...
it will burn from my brain the Ellen/Anne Heche episode. Blech.
And with more luck, Ellen will have learned by now that discretion is the better part of something or other, cuz, ya know, I really don't wanna hear how they had sex for 40 hours on their first date, like last time.

The big picture.
The recent popular vote defeat (yet again here in the US) of gay marriage in the state of Maine has me wondering about this 'historic' Oprah and Ellen magazine cover as well Oprah's show where Ellen and Portia are interviewed together for the first time.
Do these kinds of celebrity 'events' have any impact on people's mindsets here in the US?
Does Oprah having Ellen and Portia on her show as a happily-married lesbian couple reach and have a impact on the mindset of a segment of the US population who might like/love Oprah but be against gay marriage because that is the stance their religion takes?
Or do they see Ellen and Portia...and even Oprah...living a rarified life and thus does not touch upon the day-to-day life the rest of us share together...so they see whoever Oprah has on her show and is friends with as no threat to their particular religion as it is preached that gay marriage is from the pulpit?
I think it is great that we here can talk about which magazine cover we like best between the two as well as whether we are fans of Oprah or Ellen...or not. And that is initially how I approached this news to...because well, I don't have to be convinced that US society and religions will not collapse with the legalization of gay marriage.
But then I started to wonder about the women who Oprah reaches every day as they welcome her and her show into their homes on a daily basis. Will Oprah be subtly preaching to the already converted when she has Ellen and Portia on her show and her latest magazine issue with Ellen on the cover shows up in their mail box...
OR could this magazine issue and the show with Ellen and Portia have potentially a lot more power and influence then we are even aware of at the moment? Could these two non-confrontational acts have a significant impact at a time when the popular vote is so close and yet still anti-same sex marriage...?
I don't know what the answer is...but I cannot help but wonder.
exactly
Really good questions. Been asking myself the same thing.
I don't reside in the U.S., so the huge gap between the rather open-minded American tv/movie culture and the conservative social perception of homosexuality is always irritating me.
It's a good thing.
"Do these kinds of celebrity 'events' have any impact on people's mindsets here in the US?"
Absolutely...love her or hate her, Oprah is one of the most influential women in the USA, and for her to use her show to present a loving, relatable lesbian couple to her sizeable and mostly straight viewership is, in my opinion, a huge gift to the gay community. Which is not to say that minds will necessarily be changed overnight, but for any of her viewers that don't actually know a gay person (you'd be surprised), it's a step towards humanizing the issue of gay marriage. And I don't think the average viewer will feel alienated by them because of their fame. Whenever I see Ellen and Portia together on camera, it seems like their celebrity fades a little and takes a backseat to their obvious love for one another. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to make the vicious religious right propaganda about gays 'attacking the sacred institution of marriage' and 'threatening traditional family values' seem ridiculous. Just by appearing on the show and in the magazine at Oprah's friendly request, they'll help normalize the existence of lesbians for Middle America. I do think Oprah's acceptance of the couple will absolutely influence at least some of her viewers.
Case in point: for better or worse, my mother's views on the nature of female sexuality are based almost entirely on an article in a previous issue of O Magazine written about the book "Women's Sexual Fluidity", with the addition of a few blurbs by Dr. Phil she found elsewhere. She'll listen to what I have to say or want her to read, but you better believe she's gonna check it twice w/ Oprah & co ;)
The AE blog entry and video of Ellen and Portia interacting on Ellen's show earlier this year are worth revisiting:

Anyway, yes, I'm DVRing the show, and will definitely pick up a copy of the magazine.

Anxiously waiting!!
I can't wait to see the episode. It's adorable how excited Ellen has been about it!
<<Cara>>
Okay, so shoot me.
Number one, I get a little weary of celebrities gushing about their love life. Ellen says she'll be with Portia forever. We'll see.
Also, can we PLEASE get some other lesbian couples? Ellen and Portia aren't all that's out there. They may look great with their blonde hair and all, and I realize they are very famous, but I'd like some diversity.
I was recently on an Olivia lesbian cruise and I got to meet Leisha Hailey, who is a lesbian and in a relationship that has lasted for a while. I'd like to see some different lesbian couples.

Oprah & Ellen
I love Oprah and I love Ellen, don't want much TV at all but back when Ellen's daytime show first came out I saw it and really liked it. I catch Oprah every so often and I have always admired her. I would love it if she came out of the closet - I don't get a gay vibe from her by looking at her but I do with certain aspects of her life. Portia I can do without she isn't any different than Anne Heche IMO.
Oh, I like the first cover better! BETTE porteR
