The summer of Jane Lynch

Julie & Julia opens today, which means we've officially reached the peek of The Summer of Jane Lynch. It started with Party Down on Starz, rallied with the Glee pilot on Fox, coasted along with Lynch's guest appearance on Reno 911 and voice work on Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and is hitting the big screen this weekend with Julia & Julia, and then again in two weeks with Post-Grad.

One of the best things about The Summer of Jane Lynch is all the publicity she's been doing. She spoke to The Daily Beast about starring opposite Meryl Streep as Julia Child's older sister, Dorothy:

Nora Ephron and I had lunch in New York and she asked me if I wanted to play Meryl Streep’s sister. And I took about a second and I decided, yes, I would. I think I was the tallest actress she knew. So she said, "You’ll get a free trip to Paris out of it." And then she found locations for us to shoot that were better in New York, so I didn’t get to go to Paris at all.

When interviewing with the L.A. Times about her role oppositeStreep, they asked what was on Lynch's bedside table:

A book called the Intellectual Devotional: Revive Your Mind, Complete Your Education, and Roam Confidently with the Cultured Class. I can fool people that I was educated. "I was schooled in England." It's 365 lessons. The first day is philosophy, then science. You can learn about Plato, then Cain and Abel, the Venusde Milo.

LAT: Weren't you actually educated in Illinois?

Lynch: We didn't learn this crap in Illinois. I'm trying to round out my education.

In Lynch's next film, Post-Grad, she plays Alex Bledel's mom, which means, of course, that Alexis Bledel has had the best TV/movie moms in the history of the world.

After Post-Grad, the Summer of Jane Lynch will draw to an official close, but not to worry: She's back with Glee in September, and she spent much of last week at the Television Critics Association summer press tour talking up her role as sadistic cheer coach Sue Sylvester:

Sue must be the most scheming, arrogant and self-indulgent character that [I've] ever played!

The words that come out of my mouth are some of the most heinous things I've ever gotten to say!

I would like to sing "Rose's Turn" from Gypsy.

It feels like we've seen Jane Lynch in every kind of role imaginable, but there are still plenty more for her to tackle. How about Jane Lynch in space? Jane Lynch in Tolkien-verse? Jane Lynch as a kick-ass action hero? Jane Lynch in a Will & Grace-style comedy where the she plays a lesbian and Wanda Sykes plays her next-door-neighbor?

For now the Summer of Jane Lynch has been enough. Plus, we can finally draw a logical conclusion about her omnipresence: Jane Lynch is God.

    I didn't know Jane Lynch was in Julie & Julia.  Chalk that up as yet another reason to see it.

    What role would I like to see Jane Lynch play?  

    The superhero thing isn't a bad idea.  But I see it as a comedy hybrid.  Maybe she's like a lady version of Mr. Fantastic.  She can even take MY superhero name:  FABULEZ.  She'd be all stretchy and pliable.  She seems like she'd be able with the physical comedy.  We already know that she's killer with a quip.

    I love this woman, simply love her. No matter what she does, she's always hilarious, and most importantly, hell of an actress. Hopefully Glee will make it to Denmark some time soon and not like in a million years as all other shows from the US.

    That picture for Post-Grad is so awesome. It looks authentic, which makes me think the movie is going to be sweet.

    I had no idea Jane Lynch is in Julie and Julia, I already wanted to see it but that makes me want to see it ever more.  Amy Adams, Meryl Streep and Jane Lynch all in one movie, that might just be a little too much greatness to handle at once.

    i saw julie & julia tonight.  it was fabulous.  meryl can't make a movie and not deserve to win an oscar.  amy adams was solid and adorable.  jane lynch doesn't even have to say anything and still be hilarious.  i'ved loved her since best in show.  can't get enough of her.

    Meryl Streep and Mama Mia are the two greatest things to ever happen in my life.  What's wrong with you, seriously?  Were you not hugged enough as a child? ;-)  FYI, I have had the Mama Mia soundtrack in my car for over a year now.  Yes, over a year. 

    As for Jane Lynch, she could do no wrong.  My favorite scene from Best in Show: Poor Poodle

    Meryl Streep is one of my favorite actresses, but even she couldn't save Mamma Mia.  It wasn't a good movie.  You may disagree, and you absolutely have the right to, but it was a disappointment as far as I am concerned.

    I knew that lady on the Julie & Julia previews was her! Lol, Im wathcing it for sure, not only because of her but because Meryl Streep is so charming in her own way, her movies are glory..and Jane lynch,Glee oh shes awesome in Glee, Im watching that show only for her and her character, they are both amazing!.

    Jane Lynch was amazing in Julie&Julia! I absolutely adored her character--the movie was fantastic as well. Everyone should see it--Jane is a wonderful addition to the movie!

    Immediately when she turned out to be Julia's sister, I knew it was going to be good. It totally was! Loved the movie dearly.

    I've also been enjoying Jane Lynch on Boston Legal.  Discovered the show recently and I'm so hooked.  All of my recent Netflix rentals have been Boston Legal discs.  What an awesome show.

    Oh, and Jane Lynch plays a sex therapist in some of the episodes, but it is a minor part.  I agree, she's awesome.

    her apparent appearance on My Life on the D-List. she's been everywhere. i thought that was her in the preview for Post-grad.

    i don't watch movies, but i like jane lynch. she a good comedy actress.

    From the reviews I read of Julie & Julia, she's gotten raves. I'm happy for her. She does her job really well.

     She was GREAT in Julie & Julia even though her part was small the Meryl & Jane together plastered a permanent smile on my face for the whole movie!
