The most powerful lesbians ever created

Yesterday Forbes released its list of 100 most powerful women, and not only are the rankings befuddling (Nancy Pelosi bests Hillary Clinton? Presidents of nations are more powerful than Oprah? Get serious, Forbes.), it's also boring. In fact, I'll give you a dollar for every woman on the list you can identify without consulting Wikipedia.

Instead of parsing such dry material, I've decided to make my own list: The Eight Most Powerful Fictional Lesbians.

I suppose I could make a list of powerful real-life lesbians, but that would go against my soul's purpose, which is to look at photos of Simone Lahbib for at least an hour, every day, for the rest of my life.

8) Callie Torres (Sara Ramírez), Grey's Anatomy — former chief resident and dweller in the Stairwell of Regrets and Recriminations at Seattle Grace hospital

7) Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster), D.E.B.S. — reformed criminal mastermind

6) Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), The L Word — former Director of the California Arts Center, former Dean of Arts, eternal rocker of the power suit

5) Batwoman, Detective Comics — Gotham City's female protector

4) Helena Peabody (Rachel Shelley), The L Word — heiress to the Peabody family fortune, co-owner of ~~S--t Club~~ ~~He Bar~~ L.A.'s number one hottest ever lesbian club

3) Xena (Lucy Lawless), Xena: Warrior Princess — destroyer of tyranny and evil in Ancient Greece

2) Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan), Buffy the Vampire Slayer — the greatest witch in television history

1) Helen Stewart (Simone Lahbib), Bad Girls — former Keeper of Keys and Hearts at Larkhall prison's G-Wing

StuntDouble, you're saying to yourself, are you really telling me that mortal Helen Stewart is more powerful than even the most magical fiction lesbians? Yes, yes I am.

Although I've never seen Bad Girls so I wouldn't include Helen Stewart on my list (haha sorry in advance)...I think I'd have to put Xena #1 because she could save the day and then sweep me off into some little love shack in the woods any day.

Xena is also the reason that I still fantasize about Lucy Lawless declaring her love for women and subsequently falling in love with me, dying her hair back to jet black, and then taking me away to New Zealand where we live happily ever after.

i think i'd totally have switched Helena and Bette - Helena's got money, but Bette gets shit done.

That's exactly what I was going to write. I had to. I wasn't even going to read the comments 'cause I had to get it out. This was a weird feeling! Would you agree? Just like that, a blog post reveals the secret to your everlasting salivating?

I just have a minor problem with Helen topping that list. I mean, I can see how she's more powerful than Nikki but here she's the only one who doesn't fit my thud list. Nikki on the other ha.. *thud*

I would perhaps re-arrange the order a little, but yeah. Good list! Xena, of course, tops my list of all-time most powerful lesbians, women, people, heroes, whatever (and really, less powerful than Willow? I disagree, but this can, and has, been debated to a standstill before), and I would perhaps place Bette higher than Helena...

When it comes to doctors I would definitely exchange Callie for Kerry Weaver, though. Kerry was mighty powerful. And maybe I would add Violet or Corky to the list as well. Stealing 4 million from the mob and getting away with it, you gotta be pretty powerful.

Nice list but shouldn't Ellen be on this one? Yes, she's a real person, but once upon a time she was fictional.

I would say that Callie and Xena are bisexual rather than lesbian, but I agree with all the pickings, except #1, but only because I haven't seen Bad Girls. And I think Bette should be switched with Helena, just because Bette in a power suit lights up the screen for me, ha ha.

You can repeat it all you want, but the new Batwoman *IS* a lesbian. I have the comics. I have read them. Lesbian. No ifs or buts about it. Introduced in 52 and now starring in DETECTIVE COMICS, with her ex-girlfriend starring in the back-up strip. Lesbian. Never shown the slightest interest in men. Lesbian. There have been numerous articles about her here, too. Lesbian. Oh, and just in case you missed it: Lesbian.

Batgirl was straight (Barbara Gordon, had a thing for Nightwing/Dick Grayson), then she got shot and is now, still straight, and Oracle (okay, I don't actually know if she's still Oracle, I'm behind on my Batman comics).

Batwoman (Kathy Kane) is a lesbian, had a thing for Montoya/The Question.

Babs is still Oracle, but not really the one I know and love. The current editorial trend seems to have figuratively removed her spine as she's gone back to a "woe is me I'm in this chair refrain..." Damn I miss Birds of Prey!

There was NO bi bashing in my statement - N O N E if you had any real reading comprehension, you would have understood I was calling out straights that are curious and use the term bi to cope with their real or imagined fear/guilt.

Many, many closet lesbians use the term bi because it implies that they are still ok because they still like men. I would put Helena on 7, Lucy on 6 and Bette on 4. Though I agree with allll the ladies on the list. Love Batwoman, thank you for putting her on there.

And you know.. I've got a weak spot for Bette. So were it up to me she'd be on one. Might be a little unfair, so yeah. Keep her on 4. With pain in my little heart.

love the list, and so pleased that helen stewart is no 1, i mean what can you say brains beauty, sophisticated sexy accent love it, not to mention (this is where i am biased) shes from a british show a dam fine british she just blows everybody else on the list out of the water for me.
