Terry Moore's "Echo" will see the big screen

Terry Moore, known throughout Lezboville as the creator of Strangers in Paradise, has inked his first six-figure movie deal. No, Francine and Katchoo aren't headed to the big screen (yet), but Moore's SiP follow-up, Echo, has been snatched up by Watchmen producer Lloyd Levin and is headed to the big screen.

Echo tells the story of a young, flat-broke photographer named Julie who finds herself the unwitting recipient of a nuclear-level, high-tech battle suit. Well, at least a partial battle suit.

While out taking photos one afternoon, Julie witnesses an explosion in the sky above the desert. Immediately, heavy silver pellets begin raining down on her and her pickup truck, and before she makes it back to her cabin, the pellets attach themselves to her skin, forming a solid breastplate.

Julie seeks medical help, but the doctor thinks it's a prank. It's not: it's the remnants of a top secret military project. So, the Army is out to get Julie, the rest of the suit is out to find its missing pieces, and a truly creepy old guy takes to torturing/murdering people in an attempt to locate her. And, because it's Terry Moore, there's some authentic character development to go along with the action.

On his blog today, Moore said he's obviously very excited about the movie, and that he hopes now that his foot is in the Hollywood door he'll be able to push Strangers in Paradise through as well.

More details later but, my plan is to get Echo made as a movie, and SiP on tv (think HBO). This SDCC, my agent, Nick Harris, will start the push for SIP tv. Selling Echo will help because Echo is easy to explain, SiP isn’t. You have to read all of SiP to get it, and who wants to read a 2,200 page story?

I do! I want to read a 2,200 page story! In fact, I have — more than once.

We'll keep you updated with Echo movie news, and let you know if any exciting developments happen with Strangers in Paradise at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con.

Will you see Echo on the big screen?

Fantastic!

That's great news! I hope Strangers In Paradise appears on our screens soon...or we get a book...anything at all! Oh, I miss SIP!! Until then, I'll gladly wait patiently to watch Echo.

On his blog

Terry said that they were trying to get it made into a TV series, hopefully on HBO. He said that it may take longer because you really have to read the whole thing to really get why the books are so awesome, although not everyone is willing to sit down and read all six pocketbooks or whatever.

Well, if this movie contains

Well, if this movie contains half as much awesome, kickass female hero action as the premise makes me think it does, I will certainly be going to see it when it comes out.

I haven't read Echo yet,

I haven't read Echo yet, but I will definiety get the next time I'm at the bookstore. I love it when they make movies out of comic books.

Yes!

I've been a fan of Echo ever since reading issue 1 of the comic - this is definitely great news that it'll be made into a movie. I'm curious to see who'll be cast to play the main characters most of all, obviously. Any ideas?

omg I'm so excited!

I haven't read Echo, but I bought a copy of Strangers in Paradise when I was in Spain last month, and have since become completely addicted. And it was in Spanish, so I only understood about half the words. But I think it's going to become one of my favorite books, I've already got two of my friends addicted to it as well. And I plan to get the rest of my friends addicted as soon as I buy it in English. Terry Moore is an amazing writer.

Great news!

I am just tickled for Terry - he's one of the good guys.

If you're still catching up on SiP, you can get half-price trades at the SiP website. Some are sold out, but you might get lucky and find what you need to finish the series. If you are caught up on SiP, give Echo a try. It took me awhile to get into it, but now I can't wait to see what happens. Especially with Ivy – talk about a kick-ass woman!

no, SiP on the small screen

so it gets 4 or 5 seasons. i read a blurb with Terry that he wants a deal with HBO for Katchoo and Francine and the gang. any premium cable channel that signs on gets my money.
