"Rosie Radio" premieres today

Rosie O'Donnell's resume reads like a variety show — Emmy-award winning talk show host, Broadway star, stand-up comic, author, blogger, actress, magazine mogul, activist — and today she's adding radio pundit to the list when Rosie Radio premieres on Sirius XM.

The best part of the new gig, according to Rosie? She doesn't have to wear a bra.

Sirius XM's description of Rosie Radio is one of the best things I've read in a press release this year:

For two hours daily Rosie will have a forum to explore any topic, issue, or event on her mind. Topics and guests will be driven by Rosie's numerous passions, interests, and hobbies.

It's a two hour Rosie O. free-for-all! Why has it taken so long for this to happen?

Well, for one thing, Rosie told USA Today that after her tumultuous stint on The View, "I went away. I really was done with myself as the product."

And who can blame her? If I had to be the voice of reason against Elizabeth Hesselbeck every day for a year, I'd go away too. In fact, I'd probably still be sitting in a corner, rocking back and forth, muttering "weapons of mass destruction, weapons of mass destruction" to myself, over and over.

Earlier this year, though, Sirius XM approached Rosie and offered her not only a two-year contract and the censor-free abandon that comes with satellite radio, but a chance to work from home in a studio they would build for her. They agreed to work around her kids' school schedule, and to make a studio available to her in Miami, where she has a second home, if she wants a change of scenery.

Finally, she said yes.

The show will feature celebrity guests from time-to-time, including her pals Madonna, Kathy Griffin, Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray. And every day the phone lines will be open for listeners to call in and interact with Rosie on subjects ranging from TV to weight loss to music to growing up in the '80s to raising kids.

And politics?

Rosie says she doesn't want to play in the sandbox with the Bill O'Reilley's and Glenn Beck's of the world. She says she'll tackle tough issues, but she's going to do it from "a human level."

Last week USA Today sat in on a test show, which they described like this:

By 10:08 a.m., Rosie has referred to herself as "a lesbian woman."

By 10:22 a.m., she has dropped an f-bomb.

By 10:55 a.m., she has revealed her weight: 212 pounds.

You can love to hate Rosie, but I just plain love her.

Rosie Radio will air Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EST (7:00 - 9:00 am PST) on Sirius XM Stars. It will be rebroadcast from 8:00 - 10:00 pm EST (5:00 - 7:00 pm PST), and a "Best of the Week" will air at various times on the weekend.
