Athletes are hot, and other things we've learned this weekLast Friday, one billion people tuned in to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies. One billion. That is 15 percent of the world's population! Ever since I was a child I have been an Olympics junkie — one of those people who gets up at three a.m. to watch the USA women's basketball team live. I love it all: the events, the medal ceremonies, the musical montages, the athletes who have trained their entire lives for a 9.7 second sprint. I love that look an athlete gets at the very second she wins or loses; it's the most raw emotion in the world. This year, the PR firms for various athletes have one goal in mind: they want us to see past the athleticism to the fact that these are — hang on, I'm going to quote the press release — "very sexy and beautiful people." So, if you, like me, are glued to your television for the next two weeks, I admonish you: while you're thinking of these Olympians as athletes, try also to think of them as sexy. I know it will be hard. Let's practice. When watching softball, don't simply admire the 6-4-3 double play: allow yourself to think, "Nice smile!"
When watching swimming, don't concentrate only on the backstroke technique: consider the biceps!
When watching basketball, don't focus solely on Lisa Leslie's vertical: enjoy her forearms!
When watching field hockey, don't spend the entire time looking up the rules on the internet: consider some triceps!
When watching beach volleyball, think past the standard set-and-spike coaching, and take in the tall, toned, half-naked, sweaty —

well, there are lots of reasons to watch handball, but trying to stick to the theme of this blog post, maybe these girls is why a lot of people tune in to norwegian handball?

I didn't know whether I was coming or going this weekend. It was an explosion of muscles hitting you from every angle. Good lord I didn't think i was going to survive the overdose. Between all of my favorite team sports and swimming...but I think I all most passed out when I turned on the tv and saw women's rowing...HOOFOEJHLWHLAHLJKCNLEFHHCLSJC!!!

I find that I'm into a LOT of the women that are in sports that are "less popular"... rowing, fencing, shooting--they have some of the best looking women! And their sports are kickass.

Fun! The girl stroking the lightweight double in the last picture is my friend -- she and I actually raced together back in my rowing days! That is too cool.

Thank you Gato for that wonderful display of muscles I haven't seen since I caught my chem lab partner half naked last semester. I love rowers.
On to business, every time I turn on the tv to watch the Olympics I am immediately smashed in the face with bikini clad beach volleyball players. Mind you I have absolutely no problem with those salivation-inducing women bounding about in the sand, patting each other's bums and hugging each other quite closely when they've won a match; in fact they should all do it more.
On that note: Misti May & Kerri Walsh, please hug more ... and stop being heterosexual.

Objectifying or for the sport?
Three of us sat watching DVRed Olympics on Sunday (about 16 hours, reduced to about 6 after fast-forwarding through commercials and boring sports). We watched all of the beach volleyball games. My girlfriend's (heterosexual male) roommate came out and saw the beach volleyball on TV and asked if we were watching it for the sport or objectifying the women. We unanimously answered "for the sport." Uh, well, it was somewhat true...

I love the olympics too!
I'm finding it hilarious to listen to the US sports casters explain away the game and try and get enthused while they cover bits of handball!!!! Maybe this country will get it together and eventually have a world class handball team. I so wish they had that sport when I was growing up, would have been my thing!!!!

I have a total crush on Kerri Walsh. btw, not that I'm complaining or anything, but why do the men beach volleyball players actually get, you know, uniforms (jerseys, shorts) while the women wear bearly anything?!? Again, not that I'm complaining, but the disparity is quite confusing!

In fact ... beach volleyball has caught the Australian nations attention in a big way with lots of 'interest' stories being generated by the media. For example: Channel 7 photo coverage

Oh yeah ... your question re: uniforms. I'm watching A Current Affairs which just featured yet another 'beach volleyball interest story' and the journo asked what’s the business with the men's (and women's uniforms) of interviewee Natalie Cook who said the uniform she is wearing in this Olympics is 'larger' than the one at Athens ... and that their uniform is the best choice for this sport as the men 'said with pity' have to cope with more sand in more unwanted places.

I've just discovered that volleyball players are the sexiest women EVER. I was flicking between channels with Olympics coverage and I came across the US team. Holy crap! Logan Tom is so hot. So, so hot. And at this point I feel like I should bow down and worship EuroSport for showing the sports the BBC don't, i.e. the ones that Team GB aren't in. Thank you Eurosport for bringing sexy back.
P.S. Footballers are totally hot too. Any woman who can pass a ball 60yrds cross-field and look good doing it is ok by me!

The key to knowing when i really dig a girl is when i look her up online for a better picture haha and that's exactly what i did when i saw the US womens gymnastics team. And Samantha Peszek is really hot too, and i don't have to feel bad saying it either cause im 17.
I never wanted to see people hug eachother so much as i did watching that lol and then Alicia kissed Samantha on the cheek out of nowhere and it was so cute. It sucks how some of these really hot straight girls act like they are such couples.
