Lesbian Scientistics: Mother's Day Edition

This week AOL's Parent Dish asked readers to vote in a Mother's Day poll, answering questions like "Which television mom reminds you most of your own mother?" (Claire Huxtable) and "Who is the worst celebrity mom?" (Dina Lohan).

Parent Dish also asked moms which celebrities they would feel most comfortable leaving their own kids with. The answer? The Gays. Yep, topping the list of most awesome celebrity baby-sitters are Ellen and Portia.

(I don't think I've seen Oprah at the bottom of any poll ever. And Jen Aniston over Brangelina? Burn!)

Readers also voted on which celebrities they think make the best moms. (According, I'm assuming, to the paparazzi photos of these people in the park with their children.)

It's been a while since we did any Lesbian Scientistics research here, so last night I conducted my own survey. If you were a kid, which fictional lesbians/bisexuals and actual lesbians/bisexuals would you want for a mom?

The fictional debate got heated, with some people insisting Bette and Tina would give a child every opportunity for success, and others arguing that Bette and Tina would leave a kid at the grocery store and forget she ever existed.

The actual lesbian debate was pretty calm, except for the part where we role played Suze Orman as a mother, shouting "DENIED!" every time someone asked for a cookie.

i'd love to have buffy's willow and tara to be my parents.They are soooo cool and tara would make the perfect mum.

I want to be Dawn! (Except not in the sense where I am slightly whiny and a key to bring hell on earth or whatever)... But I only want Tara to be my mom. I have too much of a thing for Willow for it to be ok for her to be my mother (and I would hate for her to want to punish me when her hair gets to turning black)

As long as Willow/Tara were significantly older than they were on the show so that I didn't have the hot moms problem another poster mentioned, haha.

Oh also as long as they had retired from monster-fighting and moved away from Sunnydale....

Yay for Ellen and Portia, desite the origins of their r/s they are so beloeved, its like that BLWE quote on some show called Castle, the couple who won't split?

I'd LOVE Jane or Rachel as parents, mother just sounds kinda odd with them though, I read an interview where Rachel said he wasn't a hug kinda person (and that Joe Biden was) it made me sad :(

haha to the Peppermint Pattie thing, its so weird cus so often ppl mention SNL and I didn't know it so the other day I found an archive of Tina Fey doing the news bit and she was talking about couples and said something about Patty and (i think Marcie, a girl anyways) moving to massachusetts XD (this was from nearly 5 years ago)

Now that my kids are grown, I would leave them with any celebrity, even Paula Abdul. I don't have any addictions, outside of very pedestrian ones like smoking, caffeine, and too much wine. They need to see the seedier side of crazy, someone who can't be reasoned with after the bladder in the wine in a box has been squeezed dry. I feel that Paula could provide so much that I have denied them.

Angela would make such a fun mom! Plus, you'd probably get dragged to the Jeffersonian a lot which would be extremely interesting to explore. Although I really like cowgal's choices above me - Idgie and Ruth. That would be an awesome childhood as well.

The folks Ellen and Portia won't buy you a new iPhone because they think you should get a job and buy it yourself? No problem! Just ask Aunt Alice! It's almost your birthday (in 6 months), any way! Need advice about your new girlfriend's birthday present? Aunt Alice will know the best gift to buy, the best restaurant to take her to and the best sex toy to try out that night. Get arrested for public drunkeness, and are afraid to call the moms because they'd lecture you til next week? Aunt Alice will bail your ass out, and take you back to the bars, too!

For so many reasons. First of all, they actually do have kids and a beautiful family together. They always put their kids first. Having Melissa's voice singing lullaby? Whoa. And Melissa does touring so I can tag along for a vacation! :D A free guitar lesson from the master also a plus. Hm... my second choice would be a tie between Jane Lynch and Rachel Maddow. And for the fiction one, I think Bette and Tina. I have to put Xena and Gabrielle second because, whoa, they face mortal danger everyday!

Otherwise, I was about to go with Olivia and Natalia. I love the episode where Natalia tells Olivia, speaking about Emma, "You stick with me, she'll be up to her ears in normal."
