Lesbian Scientistics: Maxim's Hot 100 vs. AfterEllen.com's Hot 100

Not to be a teenage boy or anything, but I really hope your theory about Maxim's strategy of putting Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde next to eachother works.  I'm thinking House writers should have Megan Fox guest star next season, or better yet make her a regular as 13's girlfriend.  One can dream.

Also I never thought I could like Venn diagrams or pie charts but you continue to prove me wrong.  These are great!

That first Venn diagram made me laugh so much!! And the picture of Eva Mendes....wow!! Really....wow!

 However, the picture of Eva on the women of colour list was AMAZING!!! Even without the Maxim logo you could tell the difference between their photos and the afterellen hot 100 photos....Maxim = naked and provacitive afterellen = fully clothed (pretty much) and sensual!

 Its late over here so I hope that all made sence!!!

Whilst I appreciate your continued efforts to incorporate the sciences into your otherwise subjective publication, I must call you out on your misuse of AE's beloved Venn-Diagram. 

See, Maxim's list is based entirely on the boobs-factor. Since this factor, amongst others, is included in AE's list, your Venn Diagram should look like this:

This may be the one and only time this phrase comes from my mouth, but thank you straights of America, for banning together and picking the hottest women on this earth to grace the Hot 100. I will let the fact that Britney Spears was in the top 20 slide merely because of the hotness that exudes from Olivia Wilde.

it's a good thing there was never an OC / L Word crossover, bc if she and Sarah Shahi ever shared a scene, my tv (and mind) might explode.

i have to admit that i actually like most of their list better than ours (i'm sorry! they included more of my picks). my mind closely resembles that of a straight 14 year old boy when it comes to hot girls, and their list reflects that. there are definitely women on our list who i prefer (jennifer beals, sarah shahi, kristen stewart vs heidi montag and fergie, for example), but overall, their list is more my taste. intelligence and humor and all those other things are great and can be really sexy, but those are things i would want in a girl i'm looking to date, not just drool over. hot is hot, and as awesome as our list is, pretty faces and boobs are hot, so for once, maxim's list is actually pretty good by my purely physical standards.

overall though, i love that there are two lists, because it means that i have double the pictures to look over a thousand times =)

 sorry, but now way that any list with tila on it can be taken seriously.. ok no list is to be taken seriously.. but really?? tila? I don't really get this system though .. there's the list that you get when you follow the link above and then there are the photo's ... but the pictures contain different people than the list.. so I hope I'm just confused and made a mistake cause there's no way that tila can be on any list.. is there?

I was actually really surprised at Maxim's 50-100 or so. There was a lot of diversity in the back half of the list, which is certainly quite good. However, once they got into the 30's or so everyone seemed to be the stereotypical picks you'd expect on a Hot 100 list. I'm sort of torn about all the nearly-nude photos... on one hand, the list IS about hotness, but on the other, it does seem kind of skeezy. Eh.

And also, in response, to the second graph, that just reflects the community that votes. Gay/bi women are generally going to know about more of the gay and gay-for-pay actresses than straight men. We can't really fault them for not voting for something they don't know exists. That being said, I also think that the gay/gay-for-pay actresses have a certain extra appeal within this community because they've shown that they're not afraid to be who they or that they're not afraid to support us. And that- to me, at least- adds an extra level of hotness.

I'd like to point out that Maxim's top 10 is more racially diverse as our top 10 - 4/10 are WOC, versus 3/10 on our list. I'm not going to skim through and analyze the racial makeup of all 100, but in terms of top 10, let's at least acknowledge that they aren't entirely shallow and picking all blonde girls.

So, really, the ONLY thing I see different in ours is that we vote waaaay more gay-for-pay. As that's really more of a reflection of what we watch, does that really make us more well-rounded than they are?  And why should we be anyway - it's HOT. We missed some definitely hot women because we were busy voting for women who played a lesbian role.  Seems like maybe we are the ones who are single-minded on something.

When I think "Hot 100", I'm thinking who are the ten women I'd most like to sleep with; Not who can make me laugh, finish a crossword puzzle faster or encourage me to be a better person-- those people are on my "Attractive 100".  All I require for hotness is beauty and that immeasurable allure some women possess in spades.

I think we can count three bi women with Megan Fox.

I counted nine women on Maxim's list who have played gay/bi besides Angelina: Olivia Wilde, Jordana Brewster, Leighton Meester (that 8 Simple Rules ep), Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz (Being John Malkovich), Charlize Theron, Fergie (Grindhouse), Gabrielle Union (Running With Scissors). That's not counting  Sienna Miller in The Edge of Love, and there may be more among the various women I don't know. You can't escape the gay for pay!

I'm a bit flustered. Our list seems more "thoughtful", but I love the fact that Olivia Wilde is number one on Maxim's. The purpose of the list was to pick who is the hottest.
