"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" trailer teases us

Caution! Cuidado! Vorsicht! This post contains photo, video and text spoilers for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

It's a big day for Harry Potter movie fans. Half-Blood Prince is out on DVD and Blu-Ray, and the bonus discs have something like 20 hours worth of extra footage, including interviews, deleted scenes, a sneak peak at Orlando's forthcoming Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and the Year in the Life of J.K. Rowling documentary.

Oh, and also, there's this teaser for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

Guh! I've watched it a dozen times and it's still giving me chills from my toes to my brain! My friends mock me because I cry when I get to the bottom of a bowl of cereal. I hate when things are over. Deathly Hallows is going to kill me dead like Avada Kedavra. At least they've split it into two movies, right?

In addition to Half-Blood Prince, Warner Brothers is also dropping the Ultimate Collector's Editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Again, there's a zillion hours of new footage, and it makes for good juxtaposition, like this:

Hermione Granger, saving your ass since 1997.

So let's talk Deathly Hallows, yeah?

Oh God, I can't. It's too soon. I don't want it to end. Wah!

The first installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits theaters next November. The second installment lands in 2011. Who's ready? And who's already picked up her Ultimate Collector's Edition DVDs?

I can't wait! GAH.I'll be crying right along with you. I've always re-read all the books before a new movie comes out... I suppose I should start on that soon.

Also, <3 the Hermoine Granger comment... very true.

Not the best trailer

... but still fun to watch over and over. The series has some of the coolest trailers ever from Alfonso Cuaron's teaser to POA to the recent HBP trailers.

I'm with you Stunt Double, I can't stop watching this. lol

Oh my goodness

I'm with you, Stuntdouble, I'm already crying. I cried when that featurette ended. I think I cried every 100 pages or so reading the Deathly Hallows. I'm going to weep like a child when the second part ends. I'll probably start crying during the opening credits.

*goes to pick up the Deathly Hallows to re-read for the 10th time.

Heather Hogan's picture

Me too, friend. Me too.

I started crying when the clerk handed me my copy of Deathly Hallows at the midnight release party and I didn't stop crying until -- well, apparently, I haven't stopped crying.
ElusiveJ's picture

Also crying.

I worked the midnight bookstore party events when Deathly Hallows was released so I didn't have time to cry about anything then. But when I clocked out at 11:45 (which was a condition of my employment that I told the GM about in my job interview before the release date had been announced) and started to read the book, the tears came immediately. I cry every time I read about Hedwig!

I have a stupid cold, or I would be at a store buying Half-Blood Prince right now! I'm so excited about Deathly Hallows and about there being two parts. This trailer probably sucks for anyone who hasn't read the books (but at this point, what's wrong with you?) but for those of us who have read DH at least five times, it hits a lot of really important points. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

Dobby

Dobby's death and burial had me crying for weeks don't even get me started with Fred!

True story! If you were to take my copy of Deathly Hallows and just let it fall open to whatever page it wanted, it would fall open to Dobby's funeral because that's the page with all the tears soaked into it! Harry wouldn't use magic to dig the grave and Ron! with those socks! :(

JKR is such a frakking jerk in those last books! I think she'd been taking lessons in how to kill off beloved characters from Joss.

Did you just call JKR a jerk?! Someone from The Ministry of Magic will be along shortly to destroy your wand! :)

I remember my cousin

I remember my cousin entering the room right after I was done reading that chapter and she looked grossed out 'cause I looked gross lol... my eyes were swollen and my nose! let's not talk about that hahaha but it was horrible and I couldn't eat. She said Rowling must be on some strong witchcraft stuff 'cause there's no way an adult woman would be crying over a fictional book like that. The thing is I've always been soooo fond of Dobby 'cause I don't know, I feel like he was saved whereas Sméagol (I know different book!) from LOTR went totally bad in the end lol... and the way she just decribes how Harry burried him with his bare hands, all blood, sweat and tears GOSH, that woman is GIFTED!!! Anywho, just thinking about it gets me all teary... why am I such a nerd? lol!!!... good times, good times. I'm just sad that chapter of our lives is over. I'll foreve be thankful to my best friend for forcing me to read those books!

Deathly Hallows

I just realised I never actually read The Deathly Hallows. I got all over excited and read the last few chapters, so nobody could ruin it for me. Then someone "borrowed" the book before I had a chance to read it properly. Guess what I'll be doing over the Christmas holidays.

It feels like the date for the first installment to hit theatres is getting further and further away. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

The Half Blood Prince came out on Friday over on these shores. I bought the dvd as a birthday present for the bestie. Her birthday is today, and I'm bed ridden with the flu, so I can't go celebrate today. And now it's sitting on a shelf, calling on me to open it and watch. She'll never know, right?

I will be darned!!!

They are actually going to show Fleur and Bill's wedding? Hmmm those idiots, they've never showed Bill nor Charlie in the entire 6 films they've made and now out of the blue bam. I still maintain that I hate Yates lol... maybe he finally heard me curse the life out of him after the Half-Boring Puke that he decided to make the last one interesing. Still... I shan't go watch it.. i shall watch the pirated version online and if it is decent I shall buy it.

LOL.

half boring puke. i concur.
Danni B's picture

Well I definitely

can't stand Yates either, to the person above me. but the first five seconds I did a half scream, looked around and prayed my dorm mates didn't hear me, this is EXCITING.

I'm glad they're doing bill and fleurs wedding, this gives me hope that they wont cut nearly as much out as they butchered...brutally...(let me stop) out of the previous movies. and I'm a Harry/Hermione sort of girl, so I damn well better see all those moments on the  silver screen.

ugh, i'm so excited. thank you SO much for posting this.

oh, dear.  I just finished it. -sigh- I'm so excited.

additionally, Hermione is the most awesome thing on screen at ANY given time. so. there we are.

I shall call on u thru a letter..to court u my dear..'s picture

agreed

i actually lliked christopher columbus..who directed the first two..and everytime i go see the movie i always critize it first with the book..i loved the last book but i still think it shouldva been harry/hermoine because it makes since i mean really just because she couldnt get the guy in real life donsnt mean she has to like torture us by puttin the wonderful hot and sexy hermoine i mean ema..with stupid ron ...sorry..my friend didnt even read the last 2 books because i told her the pairin at the end.. i got my blue ray copy of it and the regular copy for my dad..idk about gettin the movis again..mm

Christopher Columbus!

I loved what he did with the movies too, I'm still wondering why they hired someone else and OMG Prisoner of Azkaban was a royal mess i was beyond disappointed because it's my favourite book and Yates aaarrrggghhh... there's nothing I haven't said about that dude. It looks as though they are trying to redeem themselves with the last one though, since they're making two movies. I'm still skeptical though but about H&H I think it would have been weird lol, I always knew that Hermy was gonna end up with Ron just cause, they hated each other a bit too much not to like each other in the end.

still waiting

i am still not finished reading the final book yet. i think i am subconsciously prolonging it. i had to skip all the comments for fear of reading a spoiler. the harry potter series is the best series i've ever read and seen put on the big screen. i would love for them to publish jk rowling's journals and notes. she has amazing illustrations. i would pay a lot for that. as for the special features, etc. i will get them from a rental place and will wait till 2112 for scholastic to put together a trunk full of dvd special features and the entire set, complete with that rowling journal. (i can dream) i know they're holding out on the good stuff. can't wait to see the movie though. november is such a long way away.

sooooo exicited omg!!

When its all over Im gonna be devastated but omg I cannot wait for either of the movies....

I'm soo excited!

I'm ready. It looks like they may have actually used the book as the plot this time, too!

Emma Watson. Red dress.

I'm 19, so I don't feel remotely creepy about staring at the picture of Hermione in that fantastic red dress.  Good, because I can't stop! She's so pretty...

I'm glad I'm not the only one. lol. =]
Sara's picture

Hmm

I must be one of the few, if only, people out there that enjoy the movies for what they provide: entertainment. I have the books for the most accurate, faithful world of Harry Potter, and I could really care less about how the movies deviate from the original plot. Film and books are two completely different media capable of different things, I feel like meticulously noticing every difference or getting worked up because things were changed is a waste of energy.
MistressPearl's picture

I'm with you on that one

But you gotta agree that leaving out Fred and George's swamp was a bit of a travesty in Order of the Phoenix.

But I'm looking forward to (and kind of not) to Deathly Hallows because there was just way too much unnecessary death in that book. There was no reason for JK to go on a killing spree the way she did.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!  but why oh why do i have to wait until next november!?

i was very pleased with the half blook prince movie...complete redeeming from the horror that which must not be named  (also known as the order of the pheonix...oops!  i named it!)

After movie 6, I was not

After movie 6, I was not happy to see Yates doing the last two.  I really liked the director from 1& 2, even the director from 3 was good.  They ruined the 6th movie for no freaking reason.  The Burrow burning down?  Really Yates?

But I am excited about the last movies, but why do we have to wait until November 2010!!!!!!!!!!

And I'm soooo ashamed to admit that I can't stop staring at Emma.  I can't figure out if I like her or if I'm smitten b/c Hermione is one of my fave female characters of all time

LilyJadeRose's picture

i don't think the 6th movie

i don't think the 6th movie was ruined...not quite sure why the burrow burned down but i was willing to go with it.  i felt like when the school fell to the death eaters, there really should have been more distruction....and the showing of bill suddenly having warewolf tendencies.

now the 5th movie..yes i am still bitter about that....was ruined.  i know books and movies that come from them will differ because the media itself is different...but there was no reason to have such sloppiness!

I was disappointed in the 5th, but it redeemed itself with that awesome scene in the Ministry of Magic and the duel.  The 5th book was easily my favorite and they rushed the story too much in an effort to save time.

When they start playing movie 6, I'll watch it again, but yeah, that could have been done much better

I can't even think about it :(

At first I was disappointed to have the movie split in two, but I suppose it would be for the best. The ending shall be quite bittersweet.

Nudity... with SPOILERS

The online HP buzz has been extra loud recently because of these quotes from David Yates:

"Well, Dan (Radcliffe) has appeared nude in the past, but there are a couple of scenes in the new film in which he will undress, but we're still thinking about how we present it.

"It's a fascinating scene in which Harry and Ron (Rupert Grint) are trying to kill a Horcrux (a magical creature). It tries to defend itself and creates an image of Voldemort's soul, that has a series of images where Harry and Hermione (Emma Watson) are kissing and embracing. And we will create something that feels very sexy and very intriguing to bring about a reaction in Rupert (who is in love with Hermione)."

Thoughts anyone?

ugh

First of all AHHHH!!! *dies

I've been waiting for a wee glimpse of this since forever.

Second UGH- I think J.K.R. just started romances with her characters because they would be getting older and people expect that. BUT she failed to pay attention to where the true chemistry lies.
all of those little moments between Harry and Hermione show that they are the true couple, I mean hello me and  my brother don't do what they do.

And then Emma Watson and Daniel R. have THE best on-screen chemistry. I find myself  highly disappointed that J.K.R. didn't pay attention to that. BLAH to her.

totally off point; Emma is looking good :P

Isn't it Obvious, Ms. Rowling!?

Sigh. and then she had to dash everyone's hopes with her stupid epilogue.

I hope none of us ever fall into the love that ron and hermione had, we'd all be miserable.

november is perfect

I'm so glad they moved it to winter again. harry potter in the summer was just plain wrong :/
Peri's picture

Awesome.

i always been a huge book fan, especially the fantasy genre where i feel very much at home both as a person who enjoys writing aswell as reading. i admit not picking up harry potter untill the 3th book was written, and i been a die hard fan ever since. i mustve read mine atleast 10 times each.

but for some reason the movies, i do enjoy them, for me ron hermione and harry ARE their characters and i could never picture them as anything else, or picture the charecters as anyone but them. but still, i have always somewhat disliked the movies, i did quite like the goblet of fire and order of pheonix, but i cant say the same about the first 3, or the latest where i find the story and its details has been gruesomely mauled by script writers, and i fear that this will also bear mark of uneccesary changes to the story which im so familiar with.

for me as a die hard fan, that creates a certain distance to the movies as a "real" adaptation of harrys adventures. i always hope for script writers to keep the story as real as possible, i understand the need for changes to shorten the story.

but it hurts me as a person devoted to books, saddened over peoples lack of interest in them (in general, i think the amount of HP readers is quite extraordinare). That some people, will never ever experience the "true" events that should have happened, in movies they are more concerned about action then the mystery. and especially in the hp books i have found the latter to be the more interesting and intriguing part of the story. personally id rather watch a movie where you see no death eaters but only how they unravel the plot.

script writers are naturally bound by other wills then their own. but i cant help but see a unwillingness to keep as much of the movie authenthic, keeping it interesting for the masses is more important then the intregrity.

i do also realize at JKR is not a outsider and thing must be approved by her. so maybe its more her my plead goes to... sigh, maybe this movie will be saved by its lenght! and the beautiful story inside it preserved instead of exploited. please JKR! do not let them destroy your masterpiece!

dang...

i'm sooo gonna cry by the end of the last movie.

pretty much 3x as hard as when i cried @ the end of LOTR.
