"Glamour" makes up some famous faces

This month's Glamour features some of the most iconic images of American women over the last 70 years — reimagined with some fresh Hollywood faces. The women range in impact from activists to television show characters to actresses to athletes. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Camilla Belle as Mary Tyler Moore

Alexis Bledel as Rosie the Riveter

Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn

America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta

Chanel Iman as Althea Gibson

Lindsay Lohan as Madonna

Hayden Panettiere as Amelia Earhart

Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn and Alexis Bledel as Rosie the Riveter are inspired, while Lindsay Lohan as Madonna frankly looks like the kind of hijinks she might get up to on a rainy Sunday afternoon. There are more images at Glamour.com, including the really odd choice of Emma Stone as Carrie Bradshaw. Not that Emma Stone is bizarre, but the influence of Carrie Bradshaw compared to, say, Michelle Obama (Alicia Keys) is kind of negligible.

Check out all the photos and let us know which one is your favorite.

    whoa!

The travelling pants girls look amazing. I've never been an Alexis Bledel fan, but that truly IS an amazing picture, and America as Dolores Huerta is awesomely inspired.

And on a side note, isn't Emma Roberts about 14? or am I just getting old?

    you're...

    pretty close, i think she's 17 :)

    Huh

I'm going to have to go look up Dolores Huerta and edumacate myself.

ps. Alexis Bledel is the 'We Can Do It!' woman (by J. Howard Miller), not Rosie the Riveter (by Norman Rockwell). Common mistake though!

i loooove these. (except lindsay lohan... i don't know about that. she's not exactly a very good role model for women these days, is she?)

i like Hayden Panettiere as Amelia Earhart and America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta, i looked on glamour.com and the carrie bradshaw one scares me.

    Nice!

I'm not usually into Hayden, despite being a huge Heroes fan, but for some reason she looks incredibly hot in the Amelia Earhart outfit. Which makes me feel a little sketchy, since she's 19, lol...

Um, is Carrie Bradshaw really a female icon? That's a little sad.

I remember my last roomate had a serious devotion to glamour magazine. I also remember not giving the mag a chance before i judged. boy was a wrong it turns out glamour is very woman friendly.

    Elisha Cuthbert as Brandi

Elisha Cuthbert as Brandi Chastain I think also deserved mention.

And I think Alicia Keys as Michelle Obama was my fave of all of them.

I was surprised by how much I liked the Heroes girl as Amelia Earhart and the Gilmore Girls girl as Rosie the Riveter.

nice comment to the hippie ladies! I really like these pics especially alexis, america, elishas and hayden panettieres.

but the Audrey Hepburn one does not catch the elegance, style and grace this woman had as well as the melancholy. And the Carrie Bradshaw one is seriously disturbing. But what I find even stranger is the comment by Emma Stone that there is no girl in this generation that has not been influenced by Carrie ... uh, I think none of my friends have really been influenced by her ... ok, maybe different generation (I'm 23)? different continent?

It's not just you about the Carrie Bradshaw thing.

I don't know anyone who was influenced by Carrie.  We had much more fun trying to be like Samantha.  Maybe we were just naturally slutty.  We even used to play a game making up scenarios then asking WWSD (What Would Samantha Do?).  But I guess you had to be there, and kinda drunk.

Can someone help out my unusually slow self, and point me in the direction of the rest of the pictures on the website? I can't find them, but I know they'll be right under my nose.

Alexis' and Americas are brilliant, not so sure about the Emma Roberts one, though. She doesn't seem as elegant as Audrey always looked.

I went through all of the pictures on the website. Anyways, I loved the one with Paula Patton (Push) as Billy Holiday. I thought that picture was amazing. My other favorites include: Elisha Cuthbert as Brandi Chastain, and America's picture as well. I feel that Emma Roberts didn't do Audrey justice. I think they could have chose someone slightly more suited for that shoot.

    great concept

hayden looks fantastic. and i totally dig lilo showing off her... flexibility. the woodstock women pic is a bit out of place, but did remind me of the ariel levy article from the latest new yorker. if rumor willis were a van dyke, i'd be asking for a ride.  also love the elisha cuthbert and alicia keys pics, but emma stone as carrie? ick. and even a little terrifying. but yay for more positive female role models!

    amazing pictures!

I absolutely love the ones with Alexis Bledel, Hayden Panettiere and Alicia Keys. I think Alicia has a lot of class for a woman her age and she's a great choice as Michelle. Great concept alltogether, although I wouldn't have chosen Lindsey as Madonna - seems kinda weird to me. Lindsey might be really talented, but she's mainly in the media due to all kinds of gossip, and not real scandals the way Madonna was seen in the 80s and 90s. But apart from that, really almost all of the pictures are great!

Like it or not, Sex and the City has been hugely influential. I don't think there's any woman in this particular write up that can compare with the influence of that show over the last 10 years. It's too bad, but yes, certainly influential. Strikingly so. Certainly more so than Michelle Obama so far.

    Really? Seriously?

Emma Roberts to portray Carrie Bradshaw? Emma seems be lacking.. weight, energy and happiness.

Rumer Willis looks so great in that pick. Can she look like that all the time? Emma Roberts does not look like Audrey Hepburn at all. I'm surprised that they had her pose in that position instead of the other famous pose. Elisha Cuthburt. Swoon. Alicia Keys. Double swoon.
